Why John Dimon chose Zona Centro
San Miquel de Allende is one of the friendlist, safest and nicests towns in Mexico, situatied high in the mountains it guarantes awseome spring like weather all year round. It offers a ton of artistic activities and the community consists of artist, poets and writers of all descriptions. An inexpensive, tranquil, social place to live with a multitude of creative experiences to enjoy. “Dear John, We are nearing the end of our stay at Casa Dimon with the fondest of memories. It has been all that we hoped it would be when I knocked on your door one year ago. You have a wonderful home that is both warm and inviting as well as comfortable. Having our morning coffee while glazing out at San Miguel was an unforgettable way to begin our day and seeing the sunset each night was the perfect way to end each day.” "There is a problem with this casa -- it is so INCREDIBLE that you do not want to leave! The rooms are spacious and the bedrooms are separated enough that everyone has privacy yet the common spaces are very comfortable. We spent most of our time either in the kitchen or the sala. I brought colored pencils and papers to do sketches while I was there but never took them out of the suitcase because I never wanted to take my eyes off the beautiful views from the upstairs. I like to use bullets so here goes..... --I do not think you can get better views than from this house --hummingbird visited the flowers while we sat in the dining room eating breakfast --watched the rain slowly move across the valley --listened to the burble of the frog fountain at night --fast and informative correspondence from John --wonderful staff --three generations/six people stayed and all felt very private and comfortable -- photos cannot do this house justice: large rooms, awesome 3.5 bathrooms, double door fridge/freezer, filtered water throughout the casa --terrific location (historic centro, uphill for best views.)" What makes this House unique
Casa Diamante is just a few blocks from San Miguel's many shops, art galleries, restaurants, cantinas, hotels, spas and artisan markets so there is much to enjoy just a few minutes away. Because there is an unobstructed view of the famous Parroquia and central Jardin we can enjoy the lightshows and fireworks from any of our three terraces. We are a 25 minutes drive from the town of Deloros Hidalgo, one of Mexico's ceramic capitals. Fabulous bargains on beautiful and very useable handpainted ceramics including large serving bowls and platters. There are a number of natural thermal mineral springs within easy access. Within walking distance there is also the local Biblioteque (library) with English books, theatre, movies and lectures. Because the casa is Spanish colonial in design and on one of the oldest streets in San Miguel you get a true feeling of the destination. A real sense of place.

Casa Diamante is a real jewel. The casa exceeded my expectations in a way that it looks great in the pictures it’s so much nicer in person. The outdoor spaces are glorious as well as the view. Outdoor grill area on second floor is super nice and has a great view. Downstairs outdoor area has a chimney by the dining table which we lit on a cool day and enjoyed dinner outdoors. With three bedrooms there is so much privacy. Kitchen is well equipped.
Manuel and Teresa are delightful. They are kind and helpful and keep things in tip top shape.
I highly recommend Casa Diamante
Thanks Lupe you for your kind comments. You and your friends have been responsible and awesome guests and a pleasure to deal with. Thank you so much for being good to Teresa and Miguel and taking care of our casa. Best wishes. John
While the photos of this casa are gorgeous, it simply doesn't prepare you for being there in person. The home is stunning. Our mouths kept dropping open as Miguel took us on a welcome tour of the home that was built on various levels with indoor/outdoor inclusive living space. The local art, tiles, plantings (oh my! the abundance of plants!!!) made us feel we never needed to leave the casa to be on vacation! With 5 of us (Me- the Mom, 3 adult children with 1 spouse) we had plenty of opportunities for 'alone' time on one of the 5 terraces/patios when we weren't gathered around the fireplace in the living room planning our visit. We visited SMA over the Christmas/New Year holidays so it was on the chillier side at night, but it was magical with the festivities and lights and the perfect escape. We cooked in the well-equipped kitchen, grilled on the patio, ate at 5 star restaurants with amazing views of the city (that had trouble competing with the views from the terraces at our casa!) as well as taco food trucks and little hole in the wall restaurants. All were a wonderful gastronomic experience for my family who love to experience the various foods and life of different cultures. And it was so affordable! Tours of the ruins outside the city with Alberto, an anthropologist/activist was excellent. John, the owner, stayed in contact, answering any question we had quickly and graciously. (ps, our surprise was--no issues with drinking the water! in the casa, in town at restaurants, anywhere. It made the experience so much easier even though we were prepared for carrying our bottled water wherever we went.) We loved SMA, I was happy to find it did feel like Mexico, that the number of ex-pats you read about did not have much impact on us. I've been having friends asking me details and considering going. and I would recommend Casa Diamante for the central yet quiet location and experience.
Thank you Judy for your kind comments. That's exactly how I want guests to feel about their stay in Casa Diamante and visiting magical San Miguel. Very best wishes, John
San Miguel, voted as the world's best city by Conde Nast, is acclaimed as the creative capital of Mexico and home to a vast community of artists, writers, poets. Steeped in history, folklore and legendary tales it sparkles with year-round celebrations, music festival, fireworks, parades and pageants. Nestled at an altitude of 6400' in the mountains four hours north of Mexico City, it boasts spring-like weather year-round and with temperatures in the 70°s F (21-26° C.), blue skies, brilliant sunshine and low humidity, San Miguel is an unique paradise.
San Miguel is almost 500 years old, and the cobblestone streets, houses, monuments bullring and cathedrals reflect this but nearby are modern conveniences including shopping plazas, nightclubs, live theatre and cinemas. In the historic center, there are an estimated two thousand doors, behind which there are at least two thousand courtyards of various contemporary design. Most of the casas have been restored to their former colonial state with brilliant facades of ochre, orange and yellow.
