Overview

About the property

4 Bedroom Home Sleeps Up To Ten People

Henry's Hideaway displays beautiful landscaping with an assortment of beautiful decks to choose from. Henry's is often rented with our other homes, especially Lakeside or Pats Place. You can view them on this site.

The front porch is covered and has a nice view of the lake through the trees.

While Henry's doesn't set directly on the water it comes with a walkway down to it's own private section of pier.

The homes interior is very nice, open and clean. The living room has two full sized couches as well as an easy chair.

The two bath home has tiled bath/shower units with tiled floors. As is the case with all our homes they are full time rentals and have no carpet in them. You never have to feel as though you are invading someones private domain.

Henry's Hideaways dock has a shared fish cleaning station (with The Gregory). The pier is lighted for night fishing. Kayaking and boating, whether fishing or skiing is great on Houston County Lake. The cool spring lake normally stays near full capacity with the exception of the worse droughts.

After a day of fun swimming, fishing or playing basketball on our court it's nice to head in and enjoy the home, decks and a good movie on netflix!

About Mark & Brenda Copus

Brenda and I (Mark) started Vacation Country Rentals in 2007 with our first home 'The Gregory'. Since then we have added another 5 homes with Henry's being closely followed by Pats Place and eventually Lakeside.

Our interest in the business started after renting a home in Galveston ourselves. Being a builder it seemed like a good project...one where I actually got to keep the homes I built as opposed to selling them and constantly repeating the process.

Feedback was, and has been very positive. As of this posting we have only received 5 star ratings on all our properties.

The other positive is the enjoyment we get from seeing families re-bond. We take great pride in providing an atmosphere for families to eat, relax and play together.

Mark & Brenda Copus purchased this house in 2013

Why Mark & Brenda Copus chose East Texas

We were first attracted to East Texas because of the trees, hills and water. Houston county lake is spring fed and stays high when other lakes are near dry.

The cool waters, fishing and water sports made it a fine place to raise our kids after leaving Houston

What makes this house unique

The decks and gardens make Henry's a unique addition to our growing list of homes, of course, the access to the lake is an added bonus.

Enjoyed every moment at Henry's Hideaway !

  • 5 of 5

Very clean & spacious at Henry's Hideaway! In fact the grounds were well kept also. Loved the multiple deck areas and fire pit. They thought of everything. The owners are very polite. Will definitely be back.

Absolute Gem in East Texas

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I try to have a reunion type trip every year with our families. Usually we stay out in Texas Hill Country, but this time around we decided to be a bit more adventurous and came out to East Texas for some fun time on the water. Granted, the weather was extremely hot this August, but it was absolutely worth it to come down and experience such a great time at a fully kitted out place.

One of the best features by far was the fact that the house came with our own dock and set of kayaks to use. We spent most of the time outside on the water despite the rough heat, and we swam and kayaked to our heart's content (getting some sunburns along the way). Mark and Brenda were even kind enough to loan us their own personal 2-seater kayaks so we could make sure that all of our group was able to get out onto the water.

As for the house itself, it was immaculate, and one of my favorite features was the massive counter top where we all sat and had meals together. The kitchen was fully stocked and we had no issues cooking our meals using the equipment provided. The bathrooms were clean and had a fantastic shower. Beds were great, especially the room with 4 bunk beds which turned out to be really fun to stay in. One interesting thing that we loved was that every single light switch was labeled in clear terms, and there was plenty of signage about everything at the house. Planning our excursion on the kayaks was also easy since Mark and Brenda provided us with a map of the lake, and they had a very helpful binder with information about what to do in the nearby area. One of the best parts about the trip was the amazing backyard deck. The deck has multiple levels but most importantly a fire bowl where we had an amazing bonfire using the wood that Mark and Brenda graciously provided us.

Despite the bugs and heat, we had a fantastic time both outside and inside the house and would absolutely consider coming back again (although next time we'll pick a weekend where it isn't so hot).

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the thorough review. We're truly glad you had a great time and would like to mention you were fantastic guests! We would be very happy to see you all back in any of our homes. Yes, the heat hit with a vengeance. Ironically it had been very pleasant until the last two weeks. Still, it's nice to have a lake and the mornings up till 1 or 2 are perfect with the tree cover at the lake and properties.. Thanks again Hasan!

This place was gorgeous with fantastic amenities!

This place was gorgeous with more than adequate amenities! The back yard and multi-level patio with fire pit was exquisite. The lake is so peaceful and or own private dock and our own kayaks? What more could we ask for?? Such a great value!

Best family vacation

  • 5 of 5

My mother was the inspiration for this family trip. As we have a large family, these properties were just what we needed. We wanted someplace large enough that would give individuals plenty of space (if needed) and plenty of opportunity to mingle. Lakeside and Henry’s Hideway had everything we needed and more. The fact that we had a large number of boats and lifejackets at our disposal was superb. Our family likes to cook, so we came in with a ton of food for our 4 day stay and having several fridges was really nice.

The kids enjoyed running up and down the different the stairways, rock path, and even back and forth to the basketball court. The basketball court gave the kids a wonderful change of scenery when they wanted a break from the water. My daughter even asked if we could buy the house – to me that means she REALLY enjoyed herself.

The porch on the front of Lakeside was a wonderful gathering space. Great for UNO, scrabble, snacking, meals or just sitting back and talking. The kids really enjoyed turning on the timer to activate the stream, so we adults enjoyed the babbling brook quite a bit.

I know my family has some great memories from our stay and I can’t wait to go back. I would highly recommend all of the properties through Vacation Country Rentals. Mark and his wife were a pleasure.

Amazing getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We went there with another couple and our 5 kids over spring break so that we could getaway and relax. The house was immaculate and very well stocked compared to other rentals that we have stayed at. The outside of the house, decks and docks were in great shape as well! We enjoyed fishing, kayaking, basketball and nightly fires. One of the main reasons for this trip was to "unplug" for a while. The kids had a GREAT time and didn't even "need" their electronics like they do when we are at home. We saw the owners of the property out walking while we were playing basketball and they are just the nicest couple that you could ever meet! I would highly recommend this rental to anyone!!

Perfect in every way!

  • 5 of 5

With 35 family members staying in three properties, this was perfect in every way. Those of us staying here had a short walk to bed down for the night and enjoy some QUIET TIME! Very comfortable beds and all the comforts of your own home.
