About Ellen Hill

I am honored to have a home that allows me to share the beauty of Vermont. I lived in Vermont since 1974 take great pride in our cultural heritage and environment. If you are a lover of nature and culture--or desire a quiet, private get-away, this place will offer you many options.

As an advid biker, skier, kayaker and all-around general outdoor enthusiast, I'd be honored to share the magic of the region.

Why Ellen Hill chose Stowe Area

The Pondhouse has been called magical and enchanted. I've travelled and lived all over the world and served in the Peace Corps. To own a home (that actually has two homes) and allows me to host people from all over the world is a unique privilege. Now that I have offered The Pondhouse to others and I read the reviews and the notes that are left behind, I know that others cherish their time here and create special memories. I have been meeting the nicest people who love the magic of Vermont!

What makes this studio unique

The Pondhouse has been described many ways:

"The "home" as well as the outside surroundings with the gardens and the mountains in the background are spectacular, peaceful and pristine."

"Perfect weekend getaway to escape the city and find true peace and quiet. The house was tucked away and all you could hear were birds and frogs."

"The Pondhouse felt like a home away from home."

"If you are looking for a convenient, well- appointed, lovely spot to get away from it all, this is your place. The photos can't possibly do it justice."

"It is a perfect place for a couples getaway, great space for cooking and enjoying a meal and each other."

"It's peaceful with beautiful surroundings, yet conveniently located just down the road from the bustle at Smuggler's Notch."

Come discover the magic for yourself!

Warm welcoming

  • 5 of 5

The grounds are beautiful and you can see Ellen takes good care of her gardens. Lots of things to do a short drive from the house, but even just relaxing there was nice too. It's like being outside due to the large open windows. I highly recommend a stay here!

Idyllic Retreat in Vermont

  • 5 of 5

Please don't tell too many people about this tucked away refuge from the hubbub of the "real" world. Just completed my second visit - planning to book a third! Why would I go anywhere else? It's quiet, pristine, amply equipped and the view is unending in every direction. Cozy, yet airy and open. I have everything I need for a comfortable and enjoyable vacation or even just a change of scenery for my work-remotely occupation. The host is a mere text/phone/holler away but never hovering or intrusive. Location is convenient, and at the same time, isolated and peaceful. Rave review!!

3rd times a charm!

  • 5 of 5

the fact that this is our 3rd time back should speak for itself....As always the Pondhouse is wonderful with it's beautiful views and as always great host Ellen!!! The location is fabulous, and we always feel like we are coming home when we come back to what we now lovingly refer to as "our" little home in Vermont. Some highlights of this trip that we recommend...ZipLining Mt Mansfield, Idletyme Brewery in Stowe for wonderful food! Prohibition Pig in Waterbury, great food and brewery and as always we visit Burlington which is just shy of an hour away...Jeffersonville is truly a great little hamlet and what Vermont really represents to us...We will absolutely be returning first chance we get, thanks Ellen as always for keeping out house safe and sound for us :)

A True Home Away From Home!

  • 5 of 5

The Pondhouse was everything it was described to be, but much more than I imagined. My daughter and I moved in for a week and lived as comfortably as we do at home. The property is very private; yet if I had any questions, Ellen was available immediately. The "home" as well as the outside surroundings with the gardens and the mountains in the background are spectacular, peaceful and pristine. We grilled and dined on the patio overlooking the pond at night and enjoyed morning tea lounging by the pond. We could also dip in the pond after a day of biking on the Rail Trail or hiking around the mountain trails. With the full working kitchen including a large refrigerator with available condiments, I was able to pack lunches everyday and prepare quality meals at night. Ellen even had herbs in pots on the front steps available for our use! The bed is extremely comfortable and the bathroom spacious and clean. I would highly recommend The Pondhouse to anyone looking to enjoy the beauty that Vermont has to offer!
