Downtown Apartment Rental Photos and Description

1 BR, 1 BA with Downtown Memphis City Views

The Exchange Building, completed in 1910 and listed in the National Register of Historic Places, was refitted in 1996 to house 202 attractive efficiencies, one and two bedroom apartments, penthouses, and handicap equipped units. While the building has undergone a series of renovations, every effort has been made to preserve its historic features, such as the original mosaic tiles, an early-1900’s era Tennessee marble staircase, the elaborate plasterwork, and the granite surfaces. The towering marble ceilings of the lobby exude the elegance of downtown living.

Located in the heart of the Downtown Neighborhood – near the nightlife, restaurants, and shopping – our apartments are the ideal home base for exploring the city. Living in a 19-story skyscraper allows a breathtaking view of the Mississippi River. Walk outside and explore the rich, dense neighborhood. Fine dining is offered within blocks at renowned restaurants such as Rendezvous!, The Majestic Grille, or Flights. Enjoy a pint at the neighborhood Irish pub, The Brass Door, or make the three-minute drive to Beale Street and relish in its famous bars such as Silky O’Sullivans, Alfred’s, or Bardog Tavern. You could also take the trolley to Beale St, to the Pyramid, or around the downtown area, since there is a trolley stop a block away.

The apartments provide a homey feel with a luxurious touch and high-quality amenities. Several of the units located on the higher floors provide our residents a spectacular view. Units come with a kitchen, fully equipped with refrigerator, microwave, oven/stove, pots/pans, and dishes. The Management office on the first floor is ready to assist you during business hours, and, as many of my residents already know, I am always just a phone call away. A laundry room with coin-operated machines and a gym on the top floor are easily accessible through the three elevators.

There are public metered spots all around the building. If metered parking is not available, there is a nearby parking garage (1 block away) available for a fee. Note that these prices are non-negotiable since the garage is operated by a separate business.

Situated at an unbeatable location with competitive pricing, our apartments are a click away from becoming your future home or weekend getaway. Let yourself be inspired by the view and invigorated by the bustling and lively neighborhood. Rest up in our comfortable abodes and make sure to spend enough time exploring the giant playground that is the City of Memphis. Come home and enjoy the many amenities, such as the laundry room and the gym, and the luxurious construction and styling of The Exchange Building Apartments.

The Exchange Building was a very nice place and in an excellent location.

We loved our stay in Memphis. The room was fine, however, there was very few pieces of silverware, one kitchen towel, very few plates and cups, only two bathroom towels, and no stopper for the sink for washing dishes. Another helpful item would have been an information booklet for the operation of the apartment. The power breaker was tripped, drain in tub was very slow, and we were not able to get our computer online. Overall the room was okay, but their was very little thought put into just having the bare necessities for a week's stay. It would have been nice if the owner, Naira, would have answered our emails and we would have been much more prepared for our stay. The air conditioning units were noisy, leaked, and one of them did not work properly.

Again, we loved Memphis!

Dilapidated

  • 1 of 5

The room we first received when checking in was awful. The room smelled of smoke an filth and everything about it was old. The pull out couch was at least 30 years old and the 'mattress' on it looked to be original. There were no sheets or covering on said mattress. The normal air conditioner was no longer working, so there was one stand alone unit with a long vent hose to the outside in this unit. This single unit did not fair well during the 95+ degree day.

We did not unpack, yet returned to the front desk for assistance. We were given a similar room that was freshly painted and had a new couch without a pull out sleeper. Like the other room, there were stand alone units (2) for A/C. I believe we were the first tenants in this room because there was no cable box, nothing but 4 glasses in the kitchen not even coffee cups to go with the coffee maker. We took this room because the other one turned my stomach. This worked for the 2 nights that we were in town.

I would never recommend this to family or friends and I advise people looking at this property to look else where.

Clean, convenient, but sparse

  • 3 of 5

My boyfriend and I spent four nights at the Exchange Suites for our first trip to Memphis. The Exchange Suites was a convenient location to Beale Street, restaurants and the trolly stop that will take you to other area attractions. You do not necessarily stay in the apartment pictured. I reserved a 1 bedroom but ended up with a 2 bedroom because that is what was available. The building was secure, workers friendly, apartment clean and the air conditioning worked great!

The apartment was sparse. Minimal furniture and decor. There was no welcome information or information included about the building/area. There was also no extra supplies. One garbage bag, one 1/2 roll of toilet paper, and the soap dispenser was empty with no extra for our 4 night stay. Plan to bring or buy extra. I also messaged the owner a week before our stay about address/directions and did not hear back until after our stay. Luckily you can look up the Exchange Suites online and find out the address. The downtown area is very empty. I felt okay walking around and to Beale Street with my boyfriend but would have not walked alone.

Overall the apartment was fine for our stay. It will work if you want affordable, convenient, clean and don't need anything fancy.

It's an okay location BUT.....

  • 1 of 5

It is not as advertised! You DO NOT receive the room that is shown in the pictures! I even complained at the front desk and the guy didn't seem to care and didn't offer to switch us. The room that we were given smelled, was in need of many repairs (laminate floor tiles in the hallway were coming up, cracks in the side of the tub, spots and holes in ceiling tiles, etc.), the mattresses were HORRIBLE! The bed wasn't even a queen size, it was a full. The bedroom is small but a queen could fit if arranged differently. We couldn't even close the door because the bed was in the way (that provided a good laugh). There were no sheets, blankets or pillows for the sleeper sofa and there weren't enough towels. There is no phone to connect to the front desk so I went to the front desk and was given red, blue and pink towels which to me is a no no for rentals. I, as a renter/customer, want to see that my towels/cloths are clean and bleached. Luckily, it was only for one night and we didn't spend much time in it. I wouldn't rent it again!

Great location!

  • 3 of 5

Apartment was in a great location! Short 5-10 min walk to Beale Street. Apartment was very clean but could use a little TLC. The bed was the worst thing about our stay, it slept horribly! Overall, good deal for the money.

Stay

  • 3 of 5

Disappointed at first as management put us in another one bed that was Spartan with bath towels that were hand towels. When we complain they said it was all owned by one person and they allocated rooms. Only after I showed the vrbo site did they decide to change our room. Nice city. Enjoyed our stay despite a bad start

Notes:
Located in the heart of Downtown Memphis at the corner of Second Street and Madison Avenue – we are within close proximity of all the best nightlife and dining the neighborhood has to offer. HUNGRY? The options are endless. You are within blocks of the FOOD Network’s beloved Rendezvous Barbeque Restaurant. Or try the Majestic Grill for American Cuisine. If you can’t decide, stop by fine dining restaurant FLIGHT where you can sample not one, but three items on the menu! THIRSTY? Walk to and hang out with the locals at The Brass Door Irish Pub or Bardog Tavern. Or take a short Trolley ride to party on the world famous Beale Street where you will find bars like Silky O’ Sulivans, Alfred’s and BB King’s. Some great places I recommend to visit: For Breakfast/Lunch: Blue Plate Cafe, Trolley Stop, The Little Tea Shop, Flights (fancy), Flying Fish. For Dinner: Texas de Brazil (fancy), Felicia Suzanne, Aldo's. Bars: Bardog, Brass Door, Earnestine & Hazel's
