Here is your perfect getaway retreat. Surrounded by a private nature preserve forest , the Adirondak styled house makes a perfect four season get away. It is just an hour away by car or train from New York City (5 minutes by car to the Garrison train station). The two story cape style farm house sits overlooking a grassy meadow. Step out to the deck through the glass doors from the sun room (surrounded on three sides with floor to ceiling glass), and relax inside, or out. Cook up some steaks on the barbeque, enjoy the forest scenery from the outdoor hot tub with a glass of wine, or go for a walk on the many nature trails which connect you to the famous Appalachian trail. Lots to do in the neighborhood, antique shopping in Cold Spring, visit West Point Military Academy, explore many historical revolutionary war fortifications, spend a day on the many lakes, and of course the Hudson River (partially viewable from the deck). Cook hot dogs in the backyard fire pit overlooking the pond. Bring your laptop, excellent WIFI available, plus cable TV on two large screen tvs. This is our full time home, not an empty rental house, so you will find a well equipped kitchen and anything else you may need for a comfortable stay.

We've lived in and enjoyed this country home for many years. Every season is a delightful change here. Now we have the opportunity to travel and spend time in other places. So, we're making the home available on a limited basis.
The Owner purchased this house in 1984
I commuted to manhattan for 20 years on the train. I've always loved the train ride up and down the Hudson River. The transition is astounding, coming from a country road through the forest to that amazing city in about an hour was incredible. We visit New York City often, its very accessible by train or car whenever we want it.
Great hiking and biking in the area. Trails lead directly from the house which is surrounded by a nature preserve. Paths connect to the nearby Appalachian trail. Antique hunting is fabulous in Cold Spring, also enjoy walks there along the Hudson River.
Kay was a wonderful host. My son described it best when he said he wished all of the homes in our area had as much character as this old world charmer. It truly was like visiting a wealthy uncles country home. I wish we had booked a tour of the nearby Manitoga home right next door. It has wonderful access to the rail system which in just over an hour will get you to New York with an amazing scenic view of the river for most of the time. We also enjoyed it's close access to the United States military Academy where we visited my son. We also happen to hit this house right during prime season colors in October – we will carry forward many wonderful memories for years to come.
What a great way to spend the weekend. Close to West Point, it was easy to come and go to the various events we attended. We enjoyed coffee in the morning sitting in the sun room, hiking on the trails and of course a dip in the hot tub at night. Country charm it was comfortable for our family of 5. Close to activities in Cold Springs as well as Garrison.
The date shown here is the most recent of our several stays in this cozy and comfortable retreat. Nestled *within* the 75 acres of woods, trails, and falling water that compose the Manitoga nature preserve (for ample reason a National Historic Landmark), this rustic home and its natural surroundings are my family's favorite place to embrace nature, solitude, and endless beauty. Or to party! -- with friends on the deck, beneath the starry sky in the hot tub, or while lounging about the charming two-level living-room with its abundant windows that let the outside in. With not a neighbor to be seen or heard, privacy abounds. The soothing babble of the nearby creek is an ongoing call to serenity that lingers long after leaving. The changing seasons are fully experienced here, and I cannot say which is best. Thanks again, Kay, and see you soon!
We had a great time over the 4th of July weekend at this beautiful country home. As one of the other reviews mentioned, it is a great location for endurance training at Bear Mountain--we brought our road bikes and trained there every day. There are also several hiking trails very close to the house and the outdoor space is great to hang out with friends. We would definitely come back.
Friends and family gathered here to run in a half marathon at Bear Mountain and the home was perfect. We were able to enjoy a meal together outside on the deck with gorgeous views and the calming sound of the stream. There was also a Rangers game on, so the open family room with a large TV really saved the day. To prepare for the race we sat in the hot tub. Kay was extremely helpful in recommending a restaurant to enjoy as well as where the nearest shopping was. We went to the local farmers market and a great coffe shop called Cold Spring Coffee Pantry. We were conveniently located for our race and everyone had a lovely time at the home.
My fiance and I rented this house with two other couples for three nights over New Year's, and we had a great time. It's perfect for a winter getaway. We made a lot of use of the fireplace and hot tub, and we had a nice hike on a nearby trail. We'd definitely like to come back.
