We are native Oregonians and began vacationing in Hawaii about 20 years ago. We loved the islands so much we came back more and more often. We initially bought a one-bedroom condo in 2006 at Kona Bali Kai, across the street from the beach with no ocean view. We live on the Oregon coast, but rarely go to the beach; so, when we decided to buy a larger condo we wanted to be right on the beach - and you can't get any closer than our condo at Kona Bali Kai. We love sharing Hawaii with our kids, grandkids and many friends.
Mike Gaudette purchased this condo in 2007
We live on the often rainy Oregon coast and didn't want to come to Hawaii and be in the rain. The dry Kona coast is perfect for our vacations. And the nearly constant trade winds keep our condo cool day and night. Kona Bali Kai is perfectly situated along Ali'i Drive. It's close enough to old town Kailua-Kona for a refreshing walk into town, but not close enough to have a lot of unwanted traffic or commercial activity. And, of course, you can't get any closer to the beach than at the Kona Bali Kai and where else can you watch surfers and sea life all day long from your lanai?
We love our 4th floor unit with open-beam ceilings that create a feeling of spaciousness We love that the 12' doors separating the living room from the master bedroom disappear completely into the wall during the day (no other unit at Kona Bali Kai has this feature) so that there is a panoramic view of the ocean and surfers from anywhere in the unit. We love the way the sun sets every night right between the palm trees off our lanai and how we can sit on the lanai and watch surfers, whales (in season) and turtles. One of the most unusual features of our unit is the teak lanai framed in Hawaiian ironwood and bamboo hardwood floors throughout the unit.. The newly remodeled master bath and walk-in shower features your choice of an adjustable shower head on the wall or a drenching rain head in the ceiling, dual cabinets and sinks, and an elongated toilet. We love to play games and spend time at the beach in Hawaii, so the unit is fully equipped with games and beach accessories, including children's play toys.
We had a wonderful time during our stay on the Big Island. The condo was fabulous and exceeded our expectations! The location, view and condo itself was just incredible. As beautiful as the photos are they still do not do this place justice! We arrived at night and went to sleep shortly after. When we woke up the next morning the view out the wall of windows/doors took our breath away. As Mike suggested we stocked up on food from Walmart & Costco. Every morning we took our time cooking breakfast, enjoying it with our coffee on the lanai while watching the surfers. The previous guest's comments were right about not needing AC. With the sliding doors open and fans on the temperature was perfect and the sound of the ocean...oh my! We felt like we were in heaven every single day & night. It is by far the best place we have ever stayed and we've been to quite a few places! Mike's hospitality was so rare as well. The information he provided before the trip was very helpful and then he called to make sure we arrived and that everything at the condo was ok. This "find" made our 25th anniversary trip so much more special. Thank you Mike for sharing your beautiful place with others!
Our family of 5 had an amazing stay! Wonderful accommodations! Comfy beds, washer & dryer in house, & the lanai...spectacular!!!! Watching the sunrise & sunset absolutely breathtaking! Will seek out for our next stay.

WOW-Great View! Great location! This Oceanfront Penthouse Condo was so comfortable we almost didn't want to leave at the end of our stay. It definitely was a home away from home. The owners have such aloha in providing everything to make your stay enjoyable. Comfortable bed, rain shower, double sinks, Charisma bath towels in master suite with the sounds of the ocean and spectacular view. Enjoyed my morning coffee and breakfast sitting on the lanai watching all the surfers and the continuous waves. Very relaxing! If you would like a wonderful Hawaiian experience, this is the place and we would stay there again. Serge and Gloria King, Volcano, Hawaii.
Our family of 5 had a fantastic stay at this condo. The condo sits right on the water. I cannot imagine being closer to the ocean in any location. Even from the fourth floor balcony, I could see fish in the water. We were THAT close. The condo is well equipped with everything a vacationing family could want or need. We especially enjoyed the use of the beach chairs, beach towels, snorkel equipment and boogie boards. Although the temps were high, we had no trouble sleeping with the doors open and fans on. The sound of the ocean below lulled us to sleep. We enjoyed seeing a sea turtle on the little beach one night, sunning himself. We watched him for a good long time until he decided to head back into the water. Thanks, Mike, for an unforgettable vacation!
Everyone's review of this condo has been completely accurate! It was an amazing 8 days staying here and we loved every minute of it. It felt just like home from the minute we stepped inside and felt the wonderful ocean breeze. The views were even more spectacular and we enjoyed waking up to it and going to sleep to the sound of the waves every day and night. The location was perfect as well. Everything was within a few minutes drive, but the complex itself was very peaceful and quiet. Mike was very kind and helpful throughout our stay and we really could tell he wanted us to enjoy our time there. The binder with all the info really was helpful to us and the condo had everything we needed and more. I would definitely recommend anyone who is going to the Big Island to stay in this condo. It was a wonderful experience for my family and it was a very memorable vacation, thanks to this amazing condo! Thank you so much Mike!
