Kona Coast Condo Rental Photos and Description

Oceanfront, 2 BR, 2 BA, Sleeps 6, Short Stay Specials from $100/night-call owner

This desirable oceanfront penthouse unit (with elevator) features spacious open beam ceilings and is only 30 feet from the gentle surf lapping directly below the lanai, where surfers launch into the spectacular blue waves of Banyans Beach, one of Kona’s most popular surfing spots. This beautifully remodeled and furnished condo features an oceanfront living room and master bedroom with unparalleled 180 degree ocean views and access to spectacular Kona sea life and sunsets. Your cares dissolve away as warm sun and soothing surf caress your mind and body on the unique ironwood-framed teak lanai in your comfortable teak steamer chairs. Enjoy the brilliant blue skies, colorful Hawaiian reef fish, green sea turtles, Humpback whales, spinner dolphins and surfers right from your lanai. In the quiet evening, relax on your lanai and experience the amazing reds and oranges of a spectacular Kona sunset as the huge orb descends into the sea through the softly waving palm fronds. Luxuriate in the newly remodeled master bathroom and shower with multiple shower heads, double sinks and contemporary tile work. The beautiful bamboo hardwood floors throughout, well stocked kitchen with granite countertops and contemporary cabinets and upscale Hawaiian-themed furnishings will make you wish you never had to leave. During the day, slide the 12’-wide doors between the master bedroom and living room into the wall pocket to enjoy an unrestricted panoramic ocean view from throughout the living area. At night, leave the lanai doors open in the oceanfront master bedroom and living room and be lulled to sleep by the ceaseless caress of the waves on the worn lava rocks below. Gentle ocean breezes keep you cool day and night whether snoozing on the lanai, entertaining friends in your oceanfront paradise or sleeping soundly in your king-size bed (click on 'More Details' to see all the unit amenities).

Amenities include free in-unit password protected WiFi and internet access, full-size washer and dryer, coffee grinder, large and small ice chests, frozen ice packs, beach chairs, beach towels, beach mats, boogie boards, snorkel gear, children’s beach toys, two pack ‘n plays, popular board and table games, puzzles, BluRay DVD players, 3 flat screen TVs, stereo with iPad/iPhone/iPod docking station, iron and ironing board, safe, and wall-mounted hair dryers.

Sleeping arrangements include a king-size bed in the oceanfront master bedroom and twin beds in the second bedroom. The living room pune (Hawaiian sofa/couch) is actually a second pair of twin beds. The unit sleeps four persons privately (two in the master bedroom and two in the second bedroom) or six if you use the pune.

Resort amenities include free parking, elevator, a large swimming pool with deck chairs and tables, hot tub/spa, comfortable lobby with wireless Internet, concierge desk for Big Island activities, oceanfront gas barbecues, oceanfront lounge chairs on the beach, numerous shallow lava tide pools with green sea turtles, Da Poke Shack (a very popular restaurant for poke), Miller’s Surf Shop (surfing, diving and snorkel gear), on-site security and convenience store (with alcohol sales) across the street. About Mike Gaudette

We are native Oregonians and began vacationing in Hawaii about 20 years ago. We loved the islands so much we came back more and more often. We initially bought a one-bedroom condo in 2006 at Kona Bali Kai, across the street from the beach with no ocean view. We live on the Oregon coast, but rarely go to the beach; so, when we decided to buy a larger condo we wanted to be right on the beach - and you can't get any closer than our condo at Kona Bali Kai. We love sharing Hawaii with our kids, grandkids and many friends.

Mike Gaudette purchased this condo in 2007

Why Mike Gaudette chose Kona Coast

We live on the often rainy Oregon coast and didn't want to come to Hawaii and be in the rain. The dry Kona coast is perfect for our vacations. And the nearly constant trade winds keep our condo cool day and night. Kona Bali Kai is perfectly situated along Ali'i Drive. It's close enough to old town Kailua-Kona for a refreshing walk into town, but not close enough to have a lot of unwanted traffic or commercial activity. And, of course, you can't get any closer to the beach than at the Kona Bali Kai and where else can you watch surfers and sea life all day long from your lanai?

What makes this condo unique

We love our 4th floor unit with open-beam ceilings that create a feeling of spaciousness We love that the 12' doors separating the living room from the master bedroom disappear completely into the wall during the day (no other unit at Kona Bali Kai has this feature) so that there is a panoramic view of the ocean and surfers from anywhere in the unit. We love the way the sun sets every night right between the palm trees off our lanai and how we can sit on the lanai and watch surfers, whales (in season) and turtles. One of the most unusual features of our unit is the teak lanai framed in Hawaiian ironwood and bamboo hardwood floors throughout the unit.. The newly remodeled master bath and walk-in shower features your choice of an adjustable shower head on the wall or a drenching rain head in the ceiling, dual cabinets and sinks, and an elongated toilet. We love to play games and spend time at the beach in Hawaii, so the unit is fully equipped with games and beach accessories, including children's play toys.

Paradise!

We had a wonderful time during our stay on the Big Island. The condo was fabulous and exceeded our expectations! The location, view and condo itself was just incredible. As beautiful as the photos are they still do not do this place justice! We arrived at night and went to sleep shortly after. When we woke up the next morning the view out the wall of windows/doors took our breath away. As Mike suggested we stocked up on food from Walmart & Costco. Every morning we took our time cooking breakfast, enjoying it with our coffee on the lanai while watching the surfers. The previous guest's comments were right about not needing AC. With the sliding doors open and fans on the temperature was perfect and the sound of the ocean...oh my! We felt like we were in heaven every single day & night. It is by far the best place we have ever stayed and we've been to quite a few places! Mike's hospitality was so rare as well. The information he provided before the trip was very helpful and then he called to make sure we arrived and that everything at the condo was ok. This "find" made our 25th anniversary trip so much more special. Thank you Mike for sharing your beautiful place with others!

Beautiful view and sunsets!!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved this condo! We fell asleep to the sound of crashing waves and soft cool breezes and then would wake up to watching surfers as we drank our coffee on the lanai! We are a family of six and we had plenty of room. The Punee (doubles as the living room sofas) fit both our 14 year old niece and nephew (one is 6'2" and one is 5'6"). Beach towels were provided so we didn't have to bring those with us. We used the BBQ pit located on the ground floor a couple of times and it was always clean. The location of this condo is superb. One of our favorite spots to body surf is Magic Sands beach which is just down the road. Mike Gaudette is wonderful! He went out of his way to make sure we knew what to expect of the island and the places to see/visit. We stayed at this condo for 6 nights before heading to the Volcano and Hilo side. We did just about everything we could in Kona and we were always happy to head back to the condo at the end of the day! You won't be disappointed by staying here!

Amazing Oceanfront Condo

  • 4 of 5

The 4th floor condo on the oceanfront at Kona Bali Kai is wonderful. It is perfectly situated over a rocky beach, with surfers, paddleboarders, turtlers and frequent marriage proposals for entertainment. The condo is well equipped with every amenity provided. The furnishings are well thought out and very nice. Plenty of towels, kitchen is well stocked, generous beach provisions, etc. The electronics and other personal items are up to date and appreciated. The living room sofas are not comfortable, even for sitting but especially for sleeping. The other beds are fine, and sleeping in the master bedroom, with the doors open to the roaring sound of the ocean, is truly paradise. The location of the condo was very convenient to everything we wanted to do. Although getting into the water here isn't easy, there are good beaches in both directions and we were able to quickly get to the rest of the island. The pool area was nice--always quiet while we were there. Parking is free and never had an issue getting a convenient space. It was a very short drive into the main "downtown" area of Kona where the shops and restaurants are. We ate at Huggos and Humpy's. Drive south and visit some of the small personally owned coffee and nut farms for a fun experience. I would definitely stay here again if I return to the Big Island, and would recommend this unit to my family and friends. It is a truly lovely condo, and has everything you need or want.

Owner's Response: I'm glad you enjoyed our condo, the beautiful views and the sound of the ocean crashing on the lava below our lanai. I'm also happy you were able to take advantage of the many amenities we include; we've added many amenities as a direct result of feedback from our guests. The couches in the living room are actually twin beds with bolsters (Hawaiian "punes"), that's why they aren't as soft as a typical couch. We chose the punes because they are usually more comfortable for sleeping than a hide-a-bed with a thin mattress and a bar in the middle of your back. I'm pleased that the condo was convenient for shopping, restaurants and beaches and you had a wonderful time.

wonderful place, beautiful location

  • 4 of 5

Overall, the condo was great. Well furnished, stocked with all we needed for our plans, excursions, etc. Great to have twin beds in 2nd bedroom. Master bedroom very comfortable. Views spectacular.

Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because complex itself is unremarkable, and in need of some work. Pool on site has many broken tiles and several of the railings had caution tape on them , needing repair as well.

Location can't be beat unless you want beach front, as this location is oceanfront and pretty rocky. If you want a spectacular view, this is it. If you are looking for a beach for swimming, etc this is not the place. Although a short drive/ walk will get you to the sandy beach you are looking for. Watch out for urchins if you do get in the water here..ouch!! Turtles on sitem every night was a bonus!

Owner's Response: Glad you had a good time in our condo and enjoyed watching the surfers and the waves crashing below the lanai. I'm happy the condo had everything you needed to have a great vacation. The pool is very functional, but does need some cosmetic work right now; the condominium management has budgeted a complete renovation of the pool tiles and the pool deck soon.

Relaxing stay, amazing view, lovely condo

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Mikes condo. The view is amazing, the ocean sounds lulled our baby to sleep, we enjoyed delicious ahi poke right downstairs, and my husband got to surf directly in front of the condo. It is close to Kona town yet feels quiet and secluded. We saw dolphins out front, got to watch the local kids surf, and enjoyed swimming in the pool with our son. The condo itself it comfortable, tastefully decorated, and stays nice and cool with the doors open. Mike was very hospitable and excellent at communicating with us regarding our stay. Highly recommend this condo.

Owner's Response: Glad you had a great time in our condo. The on-site amenities (like Da Poke Shack for poke) and the ocean right in front of our condo (surfers, dolphins, paddle-boarders and more) make this a great location for vacationing. We love the Big Island and Kailua-Kona and hope you can come back again soon.
