About Judsen Gundersen

My name is Judd Gundersen and I own this cabin with my wife Christine. Christine originally purchased this cabin while we were first dating in 2007. Today, we are married and have a 5 year old son.

After purchasing the cabin our first order of business was to make the yard dog friendly. Our three dogs now enjoy the fenced backyard as well as the many dog friendly activities that the area has to offer.

We try to spend as much time as possible in Big Bear. We usually find ourselves spending more time during the summer at the cabin to escape the heat of Las Vegas, our current home.

While at the cabin we enjoy hiking, boating, fishing, riding motorcycles and ATVs and dining at the many great restaurants in the area.

Why Judsen Gundersen chose Summit Estates

Living in Las Vegas made Christine miss the green landscape of the east coast. She decided to look for property in Big Bear because it has something to offer during all four seasons.

What makes this cabin unique

We looked at many cabins in Big Bear but were absolutely sold on this one. We loved the sunken fireplace, the recessed lot, the close proximity to Snow Summit and the available trailer parking during the summer.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Patrick & Brett (the girl (:), Warren (Bulldog), Charlie (mutt) would like to thank you for having us stay at your little BB cottage. Pat did the triathlon on Friday and I was able to walk the dogs down to watch him come in! We took the dogs to the lake to swim (Warren absolutely loves the H20, with his life vest on of course! HA. We BBQ'D and read our books on the couch one day (love the couch, so comfy!) We ate dinner at Haciendas which we were also able to walk to, loved it! The best overall part for me was when I was sitting on the patio w/ the dogs (Pat @ grocery store) and we saw a HUGE beautiful wolf/coyote right up by the railing which the dogs scared off, a bittersweet moment for me. It was grey & white with the most beautiful unsettling eyes. The guy at the liquor store down the way said they have been known to take dogs off the leashes! Yikes! Thanks again for a wonderful getaway, we will be back! Love, Brett & Patrick

P.S. We had to move the big bear mat from the couch because Charlie has a toy version just like it but mini and I didn't want y'all to come home to the bear w a missing nose!

Cute but not kid friendly

  • 3 of 5

We were looking for a cabin get-away for our little family including our 14 month old. The cabin was cozy though smaller than I had expected from the pictures, and the kitchen in particular was quite small and older. The heating system is made up of metal grates in each room at floor level that are like space heaters and get scalding hot, and despite our best efforts to block them off, our toddler still managed to trip and burn his hand on one. The fireplace is a good more than 4 foot drop from the living room floor, the stairs to the second floor are very steep, and the bedroom with the bunk beds on the 2nd floor does not have a door as well. Bottom line: cute and cozy cabin, but in my opinion overpriced and not for young kids.

Excellent location.

  • 5 of 5

Located on a quiet cul de sac, close to everything. The property is very functional with a securely fenced yard. All amenities as advertised. The only caveat is that the bathroom is downstairs and both bedrooms up. Owner is very friendly and responsive. Highly recommended.

Relaxing weekend

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was very cute. We weren’t expecting to bring our own wood for the wood burning fireplace, so we would have liked to know that before for planning. Fenced in portion of the Yard was a bit smaller than we expected but was still very nice! We had a great time and would rent here again!

Cute, clean, cozy cabin

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in this cabin at Big Bear. Its in a great central location. Cabin was very clean with a well equipped kitchen. Comfortable. The four star instead of five star rating is only for the difficult to figure out TV/video set up. More detailed instructions would really help.

Great Stay!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our time in Big Bear Lake and the cabin was in a great location. Very close to the Snow Summit. Would love to return and do some more exploring! Loved the fenced in yard! Made it easy to let our dog out during the chilly mornings and evenings.

Big Bear Lake is truly a 4 season resort town. Our cabin places you at the center of the excitement!

We are located in a quiet cul-de-sac that adds to the mountain escape experience without taking you far from the entertainment.

Snow Summit is a 3-5 minute walk from our front door allowing you to avoid the resort parking. There is a shuttle bus that runs every 30 minutes from Snow Summit to Bear Mountain.

Big Bear Lake provides fishing and boating fun all summer long. The nearest launch ramp is a short 5 minute drive. Our cabin is perfect for those bringing their own boat because of trailer parking available on our property.
