About Laurel

Tryon Farm is an extension of me and it's peaceful surroundings let me unwind and relax like I've never done before. I always say my house has a soul. I love hiking the dunes, hanging out at the beach, walking the trails at the farm, working my little garden, biking on my old cruiser, visiting the winery on the corner, relaxing on the patio, walking the labrynth... Just to name a few!

Laurel purchased this house in 2008

Why Laurel chose Michigan City

Harbor County is an ideal location for vacationing due it's quaint towns, beaches and country roads. Tryon Farm offers everything I would want within a community. These 2 things combined, plus the proximity to Chicago, made this an ideal spot for me!

What makes this house unique

I've heard over and over that my home is modern, yet liveable. Any coolness the house has is overcome by warmth from another element. It has a whimsical fun element to it. It's full of interesting art yet every window is a frame to the outdoors, creating even more interesting pieces of art.

Happy to be back

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I have stayed at this property in winter only, so it was a joy to return for a summer visit. The house is beautiful and immaculate, with all the amenities one could want. We love having such a beautiful and inviting kitchen while we are there, and being able to walk out the door and stroll the peaceful, quiet, wooded roads and open pasture areas of Tryon Farm. Lots of birds at this time of year really added to our pleasure. Laurel is a superb and responsive host.

Second time as wonderful as the first

  • 5 of 5

We returned to Laurel's house for a weekday stay (without kid this time), and enjoyed it as much as ever. We hosted a moms' sleepover and had friends down from Chicago for the day. Everyone loved the unique collection of homes and ambience- especially when offset by this comfortable yet groovy "home base". We had time to investigate some of the Michigan City and neighboring attractions this time, and discovered Cabo's Ice Cream Parlor (in Michigan City) and Shady Creek Winery (Tryon Farm's near neighbor on Tryon Road). Both are terrific finds and we are looking for an excuse to get back to enjoy both of them again. Thanks again, Laurel, Tryon Farm, and VRBO for a great getaway.

Perfect Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This house and location is every bit as gorgeous as the photos would have you believe. We've been interested in visiting Tryon Farm for years, and Laurel's place provided the unique combination of sophisticated accommodation with a beautiful and genuine get-out-of-the-city and into- the-country experience. From the great local restaurants (try Tattoria Tonneli- you won't be disappointed), to a fun neighborhood party (can you say "LAWN SCRABBLE" ?) to a beautiful place to invite my Michigan family down for lunch, I couldn't have been more delighted with our stay. The loft is an especially fun space: combine the small collection of old LP's, a record player, a cocktail, and a folding wall that makes the screened porch part of the house, and you've got a space where you can listen to tunes, bop along, and enjoy the pretty view from the tree tops. The fireflies are as bright as flashlights out here and work their magic in the woods all night. We are heading back in a couple of weeks and are counting the days!.....

Lovely, peaceful getaway

  • 5 of 5

We all enjoyed Laurel's home at Tryon Farm. It is clean, very well-appointed and Laurel was easily accessible for questions and very helpful. It's a beautiful setting a very quick drive from Chicago. Our kids loved the hiking trails, the chickens and the tire swing by the barn. We would recommend to others and hope to return sometime.

Wonderful getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful women's get-away and truly enjoyed the accommodations at Tryon Farm. The open floor plan, comfy seating, views of the woods, eclectic art work and the fireplace all made for a perfect retreat. The beds were very comfortable, and the baths were nice and luxurious as well. We enjoyed walking on the trails and visiting the nearby winery. The owner was very responsive, welcoming, and helpful. Her home is absolutely lovely and worth a visit, no matter what season it is.

Breathtaking Comfort

  • 5 of 5

Its said that pIctures are worth a thousand words but only one is necessary to describe this propery and its location-breathtaking. From the picturesque wooded entry to the nestled treasure of comfort living-this space is truly a retreat where you get to rejuvenate, relax, and slow things down a bit. We paid no attention to time- we took the time to brew coffee and slip it slowly, we took longer showers and prepared meals together, and we read, talked, and listened to music. This home is not only beautiful, and Laurel not only pays attention to every detail, but it is therapeutic. Her home welcomes you and transports you to oblivion-Priceless!

Tryon Farm is situated on a 170-acre former historic dairy farm. It's just behind Rt. 12 and about 1.5 miles from the beach. You can simply retreat or travel a small distance to be in the middle of harbor country! Shady Creek Winery is a few steps away as are great restaurants, bars and tourist destinations. Check out my guide on VRBO and I also have a full guide available at the house. I also love giving recommendations!
