'Doctor's Orders' is a prescription for relaxation. Enjoy dinner and drinks with friends and family on the covered porch while viewing Grandfather Mountain. When privacy or personal space is needed, retreat to one of three levels. Each level is designed with a private bedroom, bath and living/sitting area. The layout is perfect for 3 couples or 2 couples and children. The children can have their own space downstairs with 2 twin beds and a queen convertible. The main and upper floors both have queen beds. The upper level includes a jet tub and TV. The cabin is adorned with interesting artwork and is professionally decorated with comfort in mind. If you enjoy cooking, food preparation will be a pleasure in the well equipped gourmet kitchen. If you want to take a vacation from cooking, the best dining in the high country is located between Tynecastle and Banner Elk. Tynecastle is a 10 minute drive from the cabin (4.7 miles) and Banner Elk is 14 minutes (9 miles). A 'trading' library is provided for avid readers. For those who prefer television, there is one located on each level including a play station on the lower level. DVD Player is also provided.
There is nothing more beautiful then turning the inside lights off and watching the snow fall while sitting around one of the the two gas log fireplaces!
Some of my favorite activities are farmer's market on saturday morning (May - October), Meandering up and down the shops in Blowing Rock, eating lunch at Storie Street Grill, shopping at the outlet mall, buying candy at Mast General Store (maybe a pair of shoes also), and spending an afternoon in the kitchen cooking while I watch TV and the views. I'm not much of an outdoors person, but the guys in the family enjoy fly fishing, hiking Grandfather Mountain (profile trail is 4 miles from the cabin), Skiing, tubing and cooking on the grill. The whole family enjoys musical and theatre productions at ASU and Lees-McCrae college. Rafting and Zip line activities are also accessible nearby. This is a snapshot of what our family enjoys but there is 'something' for everyone. The cabin is ideal for exploring the high country, being located between Boone (9 miles), Blowing Rock (11 miles) and Banner Elk (9 miles).

My husband is an avid gardner, which is evidenced by our beautiful mountain yard. I enjoy cooking, reading and spending too much time on the computer. We have 3 Boston Terriers, Daisy, Rose & Jasmine who love spending sunny days on the porch.
Kathy Gilmore purchased this cabin in 2003
We were looking for a place to relax, escape the heat in the summer and enjoy snow in the winter. We were also looking for an area that had easy access to a diverse selection of entertainment activities. The cabin is centrally located between 2 colleges that excel in the performing arts and 4 ski areas. There are numerous places to hike and fish nearby. From the cabin, it is a one minute drive to reach route 105, which was the deciding point for choosing this location. We looked at many beautiful remote cabins but it took 15-20 minutes to reach a main road and another 20 minutes or longer to reach a grocery store, gas station or the chosen activity for the day. If an emergency occurs, from the cabin to the hospital in Boone is a 15 minute drive and there is a Veterinarian office 2 minutes from the cabin on 105.

We have been renting in Blowing Rock each summer with our family for the past 5 years. My daughter requested that we give this cabin away from Blowing Rock a try. She and friends had spent a weekend here during the winter and loved it. I was a bit worried about being so far from Blowing Rock but trust my daughter's judgement.
The road to the cabin is curvy but not too difficult or long besides there is a lovely, long waterfall to pass if you taken the longer route up the mountain. The cabin and grounds are lovely. I have never seen such large hydrangeas. From the moment we arrived, we noticed hummingbirds darting around the front porch. Thinking the owner might have had a feeder up, we quickly purchased one and hung it on the front porch during our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed watching those little birds empty the feeder every two days!
The inside of the cabin was perfect for us. We had two family members from the Netherlands visiting the first 4 days, along with our daughter and 2 grandchildren. Each floor has its own suite. The main and lower floors have gas fireplaces. It was necessary to use the one on the main floor on many occasions since there were a few chilly and rainy days. Upstairs also has a loft with a pull-out sofa that my 10 year old granddaughter knew was made just for her. The cabin is lovingly furnished to be so cozy and uncluttered. Nothing is missing. All is of very good quality. We were furnished with more towels than we could ever need. The kitchen includes every tool we wished for in exactly the spot that made most sense. We were thoughtfully allotted spacious cabinets for our own food. Everything was spotless. I fell in love with this cabin and hope that we have a chance to stay here many times in the future. Sitting on either of the 2 covered porches at the end of the day was as relaxing as it gets. By the way, Foscoe was a great location to do new exploring. The upper balcony had a view of Grandfather's Mountain. We were close to Linville Falls, Boone, Banner Elk, and Valley Cruces. Grandfather Vineyards which is spectacular was about 5 minutes away. Though we enjoyed eating most dinners at the house, many restaurants and grocery stores were very close by. Make sure to check our the peach cobbler at the Hampton Store on your next visit. The gallery next door is also a must.
We stayed here for my son's wedding over Memorial Day weekend, and we absolutely loved the house. Everything was rustic and decorated so beautifully - from the wooden tree beds to the pine cone cabinet knobs. The house was very clean and well taken care of. Some rentals have paper thin sheets and towels, but this was not the case here. We didn't cook much, but the kitchen had everything we needed. This house is great for families traveling with teenagers or kids since there is a bonus room downstairs where the kids will love to hangout. It's quite a car ride to get up the side of the mountain to the house, but once you're there, the view from the porch is beautiful. We would love to come back in the fall when the leaves are changing.
We traveled to the area for our annual weekend of winter fun! This house was absolutely beautiful and exceptionally clean. It is very well equipped with bathroom and kitchen needs. You feel at home when you are there. The views are outstanding even though we did not get to enjoy the porch since it was so cold! The location was perfect for where we were going....Hawksnest, Sugar Mtn, and App Mtn. App Mtn is a little further but we enjoyed the skiing and skating better because it was not as crowded. There are several local restaurants nearby....our favorites are Bella's and Banner Elk Cafe. Blowing Rock is not too far and has some good ones too like Knights on Main. The only sticky situation we had was the drive up the hill to get to the house. The road was icy and not tended until our last day there. We did not have 4WD or chains on our car but will definitely have them next year! Highly recommend this cabin. The rental agency was extremely nice and they make it very easy. Thanks for a great weekend!
Arrival to pick up the keys began an absolutely perfect holiday for five of us until four friends joined us on Tuesday making nine to sleep for the remainder of the stay. The house is more completely equipped than our own home and being from Florida the view of the Grandfather through changing leaves was even better than we expected. We tell others to try it as we recommend the North Carolina mountains. Our last evening was spent in the Daniel Boone Inn, but the convenience of Lowes grocery about five miles away more than sustained us. Banner Elk,Valle Crucis, Boone, ASU class of '63 and Blowing Rock were all visited and the winding roads were like trails with spectacular views.
My husband and I were in dire need of a break from our busy, hectic lives. This cabin provided an absolutely perfect getaway. When we first got there, in our typical Type A mode, we had vast plans to visit this, hike that, and tour something else. Within a day, we decided that simply sitting in a rocking chair on the gorgeous, shady, quiet back porch with a good book and a cup of coffee was a far superior choice. Even our little terrier calmed down a bit (as much as a terrier ever winds down anyway!). At first he was walking sentry patrol back and forth across the deck. Eventually the mountain air got to him too and he just laid lazily on the porch at the foot of my rocker.
Besides the densely wooded setting, my two favorite things about the cabin were that:
1-It was impeccably clean and well dusted.
2-The décor was beautiful. I really felt like I was in my own house. I have a very low tolerance for tacky, kitschy mountain décor. Thankfully, this cabin was the exact opposite. Everything was quality and was either done by a professional decorator or a very décor savvy owner.
I also liked that it was handy to the main road without having to spend 1/2 an hr driving up scary mountain roads, (thus saving many marital driving-related arguments!)
The whole weekend......lovely, simply lovely.
we had such a great time at your cabin. very beautifully decorated! thanks for having everything so neat and clean. the kitchen was great! it could use some baking sheet pans or a pizza pan but otherwise very well equiped. we had a great long weekend!
