Overview

About the property

Our comfortable 2 BR + Loft cabin sleeps 6.. Enjoy the good life at 2700 ft.

Relax in our secluded, romantic, comfortable and well equipped 2 BR log cabin located high (2600 ft) atop Renegade Mountain in Crossville, TN. Located 100 miles east of Nashville, 60 miles west of Knoxville, and 60 miles northwest of Chattanooga, we are centrally located for many major vacation destinations in the Southeast. Located just 5 miles off of I-40, you are only minutes away from Crossville, Fairfield Glade, Lake Tansi, Cumberland Mountain State Park, Bear Trace, more than 15 great public golf courses, state parks, wineries, and antique and specialty stores in the Crossville area. Walking trails abound just outside our front and back doors. Do a lot, or do nothing. Either way you will love our cabin and our location.

This is a non-smoking cabin. Pets are welcome if they are well behaved, up to date on all shots and medicines, and certified flea free. Unruly pets will be fed to the local bears.

Our 2 BR, 2 bath cabin has a well furnished kitchen with a gas stove, dishwasher, microwave, a kitchen bar for dining, and a cozy, comfortable den with fireplace, gas logs, and 46' flat screen TV..

The rear porch runs the full width of the house with a magnificent view of the former Renegade Mountain Golf Course and nearby Black Mountain during every season of the year (except when the clouds roll in and visibility goes to zero). The windows and doors are screened, although bugs are few and far between at the top of the mountain. Even on the hottest days air conditioning is rarely needed, but available for guests having hot flashes.

The open front porch overlooks the driveway and parking area. You can sit in your rocking chair and count the cars that go by in a day in between naps, Normally this will not require using all of your fingers, and never requires all of your fingers and toes.

There is one roomy bedroom with a queen bed on the main floor of the cabin and a second, larger bedroom with a king bed upstairs. Each BR has an adjoining full bath. There is also a loft area overlooking the den that can sleep 2 additional guests if necessary.

We also offer a full sized washer and dryer so you can have clean clothes even if you forgot your suitcase.

The cabin has central heat and cooling, so you will always be comfortable. The unit is rarely needed in the summertime, since temperatures on the top of Renegade Mountain are generally at least 10-15 degrees cooler than in Nashville, Knoxville, or Chattanooga, and the humidity is also much lower. Just open the doors and windows and enjoy the cool mountain air.

For the technically oriented guest and/or the workaholic who needs to stay connected at all times, our chalet has high speed wireless Internet, a computer, and multi-function printer, The den has a 46' LCD TV with surround sound and each BR has a 32' TV. All TV's have a separate DVD player. Telephone service (VOIP), including free long distance, is provided. (Cell phone service, especially AT&T;, is not good on Renegade Mountain.) The computer has over 8000 songs cataloged in i-Tunes play lists for your enjoyment.Genres include classical, pop, instrumental, 50's, 60's. 70's - 90's and country. If you like head banging music, bring your own - we don't have any.

Our location allows you to spend pleasant spring, summer, and fall days on our large, open, shaded rear porch reading, resting, or meditating while listening to the sounds of nature and watching the deer in the former fairway behind the cabin . For sore muscles or tired feet, our very private 8 person hot tub offers great therapy under the stars.

The log cabin is very well landscaped with rock features and native plants and shrubs, especially in the rear where you can sit under the trees and gaze at a serene view of the old golf course and adjacent Black Mountain, home of the Cumberland Trail State Park. Swing in one of the old lift chairs from the former Renegade Mountain Ski Resort as you take in the magnificent view. At night you can roast marshmallows and make Smore's around the fire pit. Live high at 2600 ft in our cabin in the clouds.

Our cabin is within 30 miles of at least 10 excellent public golf courses (Crossville is the 'Golf Capital of Tennessee'). We can provide guest passes that offer reduced rates at the five Fairfield Glade courses, as well as access to all other Fairfield Glade activities. Pigeon Forge and Dollywood are 1 1/2 hours away and you do not have to spend the night with 30,000 of your new best friends after your day trip.

Have a 4-wheeler? The are plenty of trails in the area to keep you entertained. Bring a GPS, because there are 10,000 acres to get lost in.

During your drive up the mountain to the cabin, and from our porches once you arrive, expect to see deer, wild turkeys, an occasional bear, and numerous squirrels, birds, and other assorted mountain critters. The only thing that isn't wild is the living. Come often - every season is a different adventure at our cabin in the clouds.

About John Peters

We fell in love with Renegade Mountain on our first visit in 2009. Shortly thereafter we bought a chalet as a second home and completely renovated it. As an afterthought we decided to list it as a vacation rental to fill in the times we could not use it. It quickly became a major success and we had very few times we could use it personally. In 2013 we purchased and renovated an existing home on the old golf course as a second home that we do not rent. The RavensNest log cabin is next door to our house, and was purchased and renovation begun in October 2014. We had always admired this cabin, but until recently it had never been available for sale. We jumped at the chance to buy it and update it for visits by rental guests and family. We think RavensNest has even more charm than our other rental properties. The cabin itself is very warm and inviting, and the view from the rear porch is magnificent enough to make you consider sleeping outside when you visit.

John Peters purchased this cabin in 2014

Why John Peters chose Crab Orchard

All of our properties are furnished as if they were our second home with all the quality and amenities that we want for ourselves. We have not cut any corners and that fact has been noticed by all of our rental guests. We want your stay to be enjoyable and memorable (in a favorable way). Our cabin on Renegade Mountain is a wonderful destination for a honeymoon or second honeymoon, family vacation or a golf outing with friends. Come experience the very unique experience of leisure time on Renegade Mountain. You may decide to become the next resident of our mountain top community. You might be lazy, but you won't be bored.

What makes this cabin unique

Our cabin is isolated from the real world, yet you are only minutes away from great golf, hiking, exploring, and shopping in the Crossville area if you chose to go there. Ozone Falls is 4 miles from the cabin. The world's largest tree house is 15 miles away, and there are numerous state parks to explore within a 30 mile radius if you suffer from wanderlust. The cabin is uniquely furnished with rustic log furniture, yet has every electronic device you need to stay in touch with the world if you choose. The view from the back porch is breathtaking, with views of Black Mountain, the old golf course which we keep mowed, and some of the best sunsets you will ever want to see. Spend evenings in the hot tub watching the stars, which are amazingly clear due to the 2650 ft elevation. Cook in the kitchen or grill on the back porch. Spring, summer, and fall, dine on the porch and enjoy the view. Enjoy the massive rock fireplace with its gas logs when you feel a chill. This cabin generates a 'Wow' response from all who enter. We invite you to come and experience our hospitality for yourself.

Sixty miles southeast is Chattanooga, home of the Aquarium, historic Lookout Mountain, the Chattanooga Choo Choo, Ruby Falls, and Rock City. Closer to the cabin, you can hike in the local state parks, visit Ozone Falls (5 miles) or just walk or bike along the gravel roads and cart paths atop Renegade Mountain at your own leisurely pace. There are also a number of excellent wineries within a short drive of the cabin.

Loved the View!

Loved the property. Really cute. Would be 5 stars but had a couple issues that were taken care of quickly by the property owner but did affect our overall stay.

Lovely scenery and cabin

  • 4 of 5

My family of 6 adults enjoyed our stay in this nice cabin. The scenery in the back of the cabin was lovely and the hot tub/fire pit were real treats. The size of the cabin was a bit tight for 6 adults - would better suit 4 adults. There was no room for a dining table/game or card table which would have been nice for our family. The kitchen, bedrooms, fireplace, etc. were nice. The upstairs shower could use some updating as you could not get in it without spraying water all over the bathroom floor unless you wanted to get inside and have a cold shower for a few minutes first while the water warmed up. The manager was attentive to our needs (had a little trouble getting the indoor gas fireplace going). The supply of wood for the outdoor fire pit was greatly appreciated.

Very positive.

The cabin was very clean, neat and well taken care of.

We enjoyed the peaceful surroundings and the view. The back porch, hot tub and property were all pluses. Will most definitely look into staying there again.

Cozy cabin in a quiet area with great view off the back deck.

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was just the right size for 4-5 people. Beds were comfortable. It was well appointed with all the necessities for cooking. Great bath linens. Cozy decor.

We spent a good deal of time on the back deck which had beautiful views of Renegade Mountain. At night, there was very little light pollution, so the star gazing was spectacular - especially while sitting in the hot tub. It was interesting to learn of the history and see old photos of of the mountain, which was available on the cabin computer. We took hikes around the area and saw some fabulous sunsets.

We went into Crossville several times to explore and have dinners. Some really good restaurants. The people were very helpful and friendly.

The only issue is that the soap for showering was too small and we had to buy a larger bar. No shampoo. No indoor table to play cards. There is a bench that works for meals indoors and a table on the deck which can be used to play games.

Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely come back.

The best house service ever

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. It is very quiet and peaceful, not too far from town. They had by far the best house service we have ever received when vacationing. They made sure to overstock on everything from toilet paper to towels. When we got home on Sunday evening the water was out ( we were told up front there was always a possibility since we were on top of the mountain) because a condo down the road had caught on fire. We called the housekeepers and they were quick to see what was going on and kept us informed about when it would come back on and even stopped by to check on us and see if we needed anything before we left.
