About the property

Fully Equipped 3 Bedroom, 1 Bath, Sleeps 6

Lovely, quiet 3 bedroom (sleeps 6) 1930’s home in family neighborhood; wood floors, working fireplace, washer/dryer on first floor, with lots of original detail throughout. For more information on our rental house, New London or nearby Mystic and Stonington, as well as activities, please email us and we'll be happy to answer any questions. Our house is a side-by-side two family. Located two blocks from the Thames River where you can stroll along the waterfront watching the ferries, sailboats, commercial fishing vessels and an occasional submarine; five minutes' drive to Ocean Beach Park where there is a boardwalk, kids waterslide, Olympic size swimming pool, kiddie rides, gift shop, nature area, miniature golf, concerts and an arcade.

**Included in the rental is our Ocean Beach Parking Pass** so you don't need to worry about parking cost.

The first floor includes the living room, dining room and updated kitchen plus a laundry/mud room making it easy to bring in your sandy beach towels and blankets. In addition there is a small, windowed front porch area that's perfect for quiet reading; or, for those vacationers who still need to check in with work, the house is equipped with WiFi. Upstairs is the bathroom and three bedrooms (one full bed, one with two twins and one queen); the queen bedroom also has a small sitting area for quiet relaxation with a good book. The house is fully equipped with linens, towels, paper supplies, pots, pans, utensils, dishes as well as a coffee maker, microwave, toaster oven, dishwasher and gas range. The quiet, partially fenced backyard has outdoor furniture and a grill as well as lounge chairs for relaxing in the sun and watching the night sky. Drive five minutes to downtown and hop on a Ferry to Block Island, Fisher’s Island or Orient Point on Long Island. Mystic, only a fifteen minute drive away, has the renowned Seaport and Aquarium. A half hour away gets you to any of three of the largest casinos in the country – Mohegan Sun, MGM Grand and Foxwoods. Downtown New London itself is an art lovers haven with galleries, live music, theater and performing arts. New London is also home to Connecticut College, Mitchell College and the Coast Guard Academy; while the Naval Submarine Base is located across the River in Groton. At nearby Harkness Park you can see name performers during the open air Summer Music Festival and there is live theater at the Eugene O’Neill Theater, both of which are located about ten minutes away. New London is located 2-1/2 hours from both New York and Boston and about an hour away from famed Newport, Rhode Island where you can tour the grand old mansions of the Gilded Age. In addition to WiFi, there is cable TV, a DVD/VCR player, lots of movies to choose from as well as a sound system and very eclectic music selection. We provide beach chairs, umbrellas, beach toys and coolers. We also have an iron and ironing board for those occasions when wrinkled isn't the look you want. It’s like being home away from home.

Since the house is in a quiet family neighborhood we do not rent for parties and yard activities should end by 10 pm. You must be at least 25 years of age to rent this property.

Lawrence & Memorial Hospital is 4 blocks away.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights with our 22 month old. We had stayed in a hotel for 2 nights prior and our daughter was so cranky. But once we arrived at this house she was perfectly content and comfortable. The house has everything you need in the kitchen, the bath, the backyard area as well as what you need for the beach. The free internet, cable tv and use of a dvd for the little one to watch her favorite videos was great. Having the laundry available to us was a tremendous plus. We would stay here again and hopefully will next summer when we return to the east coast for a visit.

Super location and a very unique home!

  • 5 of 5

This rental works on two levels. The amazingly well-preserved duplex gives a glimpse into gracious living and solid home-design, 85 years ago (This Old House fans will be very impressed). It also works equally well as a thoughtful modern rental for today. The keyless locks, video/audio equipment, wifi, comfy beds, and updated kitchen are all super convenient amenities for today. The location is great— by car, we visited Newport, RI, Hartford, Mystic, New London for great dinners, and Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford, CT (a gorgeous park with something for everyone, beaches, formal gardens, trails, & historic architecture). We also walked to dinner and ice cream in the neighborhood too. All this, and we were able to enjoy it all with our dog along side. Thanks Nancy for a wonderful rental experience!

Great place to stay for an impromptu trip to Connecticut

  • 5 of 5

I'm not a fan of hotels. They're fine for when I'm on a business trip but when I am traveling with my family I prefer to be someplace with dedicated bedrooms, a full kitchen, and room to just unwind after a day of sightseeing or whatever. This was a quaint, older home that was full of New England charm. We loved all the woodwork and lovely décor. It is obvious that the owner takes a lot of pride in the house. The bedrooms were all quiet and comfortable. The kitchen was smallish but completely functional, even complete with a big pot for steaming lobsters. And the location was perfect for a number of day trips.

Although we were primarily there for a sailing regatta for our daughter, we explored the area as best we could checking out the beach (with the provided passes), the aquarium (although to be honest it is geared more for younger kids - mine were older teens), the Stonington area, and scenic drives through Watch Hill, RI. Nevertheless, it was refreshing having a comfortable place to come back to at the end of each day.

I would definitely recommend to others who prefer a quiet house with unique character and pleasant amenities over a generic, cramped hotel room.

Like home away from home, but better!

We were made comfortable to go about our business of seeing our son graduate from OCS with the Coast Guard Academy. Nancy was incredibly responsive and very helpful. If we ever come to the area again, we would definitely stay here!

The house was more than I had hoped for.

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house for 3 days this past weekend for our daughters wedding. We needed it for 3 adult couples so it was much more convenient, comfortable and not to mention cheaper than renting 3 hotel rooms. The biggest perk for me is that it was stocked like a hotel. All linens, towels, paper products etc were included so I only need to worry about the clothing and toiletries I needed. The house was immaculate upon arrival but I didn't have to mop my way out of there like most cottage rentals. The house was a great place to decompress after all the work and activities leading up to a wedding. Nancy was lovely and made sure we were comfortable. Would I rent it again? ... Absolutely!!!

Great location, excellent set up

  • 4 of 5

Excellent location to explore the local area and beyond. We did road trip to Newport, RI which was about 90 mins away. Well laid out property for a family with small children for sure with clean, well maintained rooms. Excellent host/owners who left a incredible welcome pack to guide to the house and activities.

The accommodations exceeded all our expectations!

  • 5 of 5

The home was fantastic and perfect for our needs! We felt 'at home' the entire duration and enjoyed every aspect. We used the beach pass several times and the towels, picnic basket and chairs even made visiting beaches in Rhode Island more enjoyable. The location was perfect for us; it accommodated my 5 mile runs, we could walk to the beach, Michael's Dairy, Fred's Shanty, The Waterfront Restaurant, The Recovery Room, The Yolk Diner, Sam's convenience store, Mitchell Park/Woods, Toby May Fields AND near by family. The rooms were generous in size and the decor was perfect for that area; shabby chic/nautical/vintage New England.

We LOVED this rental! We recommended to family in the area that frequently have visitors but have recently downsized in their own homes - the only reason I would not recommend the location is purely selfish; I look forward to using it again and hope it's available next summer for us!!

Nancy was fantastic! Welcoming, Warm, engaging - a great 'neighbor'! We were never made to feel like a tenant or tourist. She has invested a lot of herself in the home and that is what it feels like - a home. I look forward to doing business with her in the future!
