And then there's the View-lots of wildlife, nearly daily, like Moose, Elk, deer, Osprey, etc. etc. Many times--right out your door in the meadow or crossing the river. This old cabin is rustic on the outside and is NEWLY renovated on the inside. We sit on a 6 acre meadow just off Hwy 34--bordered by the No. Fork of the Colo. river--2 miles outside downtown G.L. The river runs so close to your cabin we have to have a small berm by the back deck to keep from flooding in the June run-off season! Shadow Mtn lake connects with Grand lake (the largest alpine lake in the State) by a small channel. Rocky Mtn National park is just 3 miles or so away. Great for fishing, kayaking, bird or wildlife viewing, hiking, boating, etc. Natural stone fireplace w/ wood included. We aslo have 3 canoes, a kayak, and a paddle boat, that we include for our guests. All firewood for your natural rock--floor-to-ceiling fireplace, and the fire pits is also included in your rate.

About Owner/Property Manager Tracee Lorens
I am the Great grand daughter of Gus and Anna Spitzmiller, original Pioneers to Grand Lake. Gus was a plumber and his son Gordon married my Grandma Barbara. My dad, Chris Lorens, left the property to me when he died in 2008, and I have been making it 'top flight' since. I am a proud Colorado Mountain Woman, who now resides in San Diego, but spends lots of time where my roots are, i.e. Grand Lake.
Owner/Property Manager Tracee Lorens purchased this Cabin in 1910
Why Owner/Property Manager Tracee Lorens chose Grand Lake
It is full of soul and history and it is sooo beautiful!!! Sits on colo river where it enters Shadow mtn. lake. I bet the Ntl Forest and Park Service--who own all the bordering land--wish they had taken this side of the river too, when they confiscated the Park land up here in the early 1900's.
What makes this Cabin unique
Fully remodeled and luxury--through and through. There really is not a property that compares in the Grand Lake region. Because you are on a 6 ac. meadow bordered by the river and lake--and have all protected land across from you--there really isn't a location in the entire County that compares with this one! The view alone is irreplaceable.

The cabin and the setting were great. The cabin was rustic with nice updates and clean.
This was our first time using Homeaway, and the pictures and reviews are really what swayed us to select this property. We made the right choice, the cabin had evening that we needed and wanted.
The setting was great being right next to the Colorado River feeding into Shadow a Mountain Lake. They have several different sitting places near the river with fire pits which was really nice on a chilly, September night. The view of the stars was outstanding as well. There were signs of elk in the attached meadow but unfortunately we did not see any.
The cabin was rustic with an updated kitchen and bathroom. It was very clean and had everything we needed. The cabin is just of the highway, but it is far enough away that we could not hear road noise.
My only regret was that my stay at the cabin was not longer.
Thank you and we are glad you enjoyed our cabin.
Please come back any time.
Great weekend getaway!
The property was cozy and the views were beautiful! The booking was easy and the cabin had everything we needed. We will definitely come back!
It's Home away from Home! Love the whole set-up, atmosphere and the thoughtfulness of Host
Host has supplied the necessities to make stay-home cooking a pleasure, or to relax in the home with a winter fireplace!
The place Has such a home-feel that we love. Caitie the Managet was lovely! She was prompt to respond to our queries and would do follow up to ensure we are ok. Sweet lady!
i recommend this place and would love to revisit!
Great Winter Escape
We had a lovely time at this property. There were three adults, one toddler and a dog and it was the perfect size for us all to relax and have our own space. We had snow on the ground so it was a beautiful space along the river, but sadly we couldn't enjoy the firepit outside. The indoor fire was lovely though and the provided wood was dry and perfect. The kitchen was well equipped, the bathroom recently redone with a lovely shower and provided shampoo and soap, and the beds were super comfy. The only thing that disappointed us were the other properties very nearby. From one bedroom all you look at is another cottage, and from the kitchen too. I didn't expect that as there were no images showing this. It's not an isolated property on its own in a field. Near the field are other properties and you are just off the road. Nevertheless, it was lovely and quiet and felt peaceful.
Cozy, Light Filled Cabin
All the amenities of home in a lovely cabin with tons of natural light situated on the river with views of the mountains from two separate porches. What more can you ask for? We would live to return.
Thank you for taking the time to write a review for our future guests, and please come back any time!
Close this RMNP. Clean. Well supplied mostly.
First the great things about this place. Views of the stream and lake were right there. Also snow capped mountains. Fireplace was warm and cozy. Plenty of wood provided. Everything you would need for a week is provided except for your food. Kitchen well supplied except for pots and pans. Canoe for the lake was a lot of fun. Had Mr Moose cross right beside us. SCARY in a good way! Some negatives that need attention. Pots in the kitchen need to be replaced. Well beyond their lifecycle. Beds were not comfortable. Ours sagged in the middle. Fireplace was nice but needs attention to cracks. Not sure if it's even safe? Apparent repairs were made at one time. Perhaps replacement is in order. Biggest gripe I have is all the junk laying around. Busted furniture in a small burn one day pile. Collection of broken outside lights. Just junk laying around the grounds. Such a beautiful place. Take a couple of hours to clean it up would really make it appear more professional.
The property faces the Colo river where it meets the wetlands and Shadow Mtn. Lake. You look to open Forest Service land and then gorgeous, snow-covered peaks along the continental divide. Kayak or canoe ( equipment included on us) with the Osprey, or use our paddle boat or reading dock, with zero gravity reclining chairs, located right where the river enters the lake, with the best view in Grand County. The town borders Rocky Mtn. National Park and is located on the highest natural glacier- formed lake in Colo, and has the highest yacht club in the world.
