Luxury remodel-- all top flight quality-- of 2 bedroom cabin on Colo. river where it meets the wetlands and Shadow Mtn. Lake. Travertine bath, all new, w/ seamless glass shower, new carpet in the bedrooms, and hardwood flooring, fine Persian and indian floor rugs to cover some of the hardwood, new appliances, W/D,dishwasher, new cabinets and paint, Egyptian linens, fully equipped. And then there's the View-lots of wildlife, nearly daily, like Moose, Elk, deer, Osprey, etc. etc. Many times--right out your door in the meadow or crossing the river. This old cabin is rustic on the outside and is NEWLY renovated on the inside. We sit on a 6 acre meadow just off Hwy 34--bordered by the No. Fork of the Colo. river--2 miles outside downtown G.L. The river runs so close to your cabin we have to have a small berm by the back deck to keep from flooding in the June run-off season! Shadow Mtn lake connects with Grand lake (the largest alpine lake in the State) by a small channel. Rocky Mtn National park is just 3 miles or so away. Great for fishing, kayaking, bird or wildlife viewing, hiking, boating, etc. Natural stone fireplace w/ wood included. We aslo have 3 canoes, a kayak, and a paddle boat, that we include for our guests. All firewood for your natural rock--floor-to-ceiling fireplace, and the fire pits is also included in your rate.
I am the Great grand daughter of Gus and Anna Spitzmiller, original Pioneers to Grand Lake. Gus was a plumber and his son Gordon married my Grandma Barbara. My dad, Chris Lorens, left the property to me when he died in 2008, and I have been making it 'top flight' since. I am a proud Colorado Mountain Woman, who now resides in San Diego, but spends lots of time where my roots are, i.e. Grand Lake.
Owner/Property Manager Tracee Lorens purchased this cabin in 1910
It is full of soul and history and it is sooo beautiful!!!
Sits on colo river where it enters Shadow mtn. lake. I bet the Ntl Forest and Park Service--who own all the bordering land--wish they had taken this side of the river too, when they confiscated the Park land up here in the early 1900's.
Fully remodeled and luxury--through and through.
There really is not a property that compares in the Grand Lake region. Because you are on a 6 ac. meadow bordered by the river and lake--and have all protected land across from you--there really isn't a location in the entire County that compares with this one! The view alone is irreplaceable.
I love this place amazing I recommend 100% an awesome adventure and place with eyes closed.
Alexandra's cabin was perfect along with the weather. The cabin is peaceful and convenient. The accommodations were homey, rustic and beautifully decorated. Trace, the proprietor and the on-site manager were very helpful with directions and information. The location is ideal close to Rocky Mountain National Park and Grand Lake. The cabin sits on the North Fork of the Colorado and has great views. A gem! We hope to return.

We loved the restored cabin, the surroundings, the easy access to the lake, and Tracee and Kaitee's helpfulness. We viewed a bull moose and osprey nests on the nearby islands via paddle boards. The peacefulness, start of autumn foliage, friendly neighbors, and cozy homestead made for the perfect anniversary and birthday celebration. Good value for the money.
Everything was as described by the owner. Very nice location, close to many hiking trails and right outside Rocky Mountain National Park. You can't hike in the RMNP with dogs, but there are plenty of trails around the area that you can. The cabin was very nice on the inside and you can tell it had been remodeled as described as well. Nice fire pit outside next to the river with unlimited wood. In general, the sound of the river drowns out any sounds of cars driving by on the nearby road. In the end, didn't really notice the cars at all, because of course they die down in the evening. Very nice and relaxing. My first VRBO experience.
Ultimately, I would certainly stay here again in the future.
This rustic cabin was the perfect fit for our family of 5 to step into the Colorado outdoors! We only spent 2 nights here as we explored different upscale resort style rentals in Beaver Creek and Vail but this cabin was our kids favorite! True rustic cabin experience without roughing it. Camp fires next to flowing river were amazing. Very short drive to Rocky Mountain National park and to town for eating. This cabin is just far enough out of town to get away but close enough to make everything easy. This cabin is highly recommended.
The cabin was clean and everything was as expected. There was no firewood when we arrived but Caitie quickly remedied that. The canoes were easily accessible and was an enjoyable part of the stay. The campfire ring outside the cabin, next to the river, is a relaxing spot. The cleaning fee made our cost per day rather expensive, but we knew that beforehand, and wished we could have stayed longer than only two nights. One minor critique is that there are no blinds/curtains on the south side of the cabin, so the folks in the structure across the river can see what you are doing in the kitchen at night. We had a good time and hope to come back.
The property faces the Colo river where it meets the wetlands and Shadow Mtn. Lake. You look to open Forest Service land and then gorgeous, snow-covered peaks along the continental divide. Kayak or canoe ( equipment included on us) with the Osprey, or use our paddle boat or reading dock, with zero gravity reclining chairs, located right where the river enters the lake, with the best view in Grand County.
The town borders Rocky Mtn. National Park and is located on the highest natural glacier- formed lake in Colo, and has the highest yacht club in the world.
