The house stands on stilts and has 3 levels. Ground level contains 2 garages that can be used as storage, and a carport for at least 3 cars (plus 5 more parking spaces). In one of the garages, guests will find all beach gears they need – beach carts, chairs, umbrellas, floaters, balls, etc. Then, on the second level, there is our Lower unit that we rent through this listing. Our Upper unit is on the third level of the house, and we rent it through a separate listing at https://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p3572418 . Both units are the same size and have the same floor plan, the upper unit is simply 2 flights of stairs higher, and has better views, as the house stands higher than most of the surrounding houses. Both units though have good views of the intracoastal bay. Each of the units is 1630 square feet (!) living space (that's more than some single family houses!) and has 2 private bedrooms/2 full bathrooms with spacious living room, large walk in closet in the master bedroom the size of a separate room, kitchen, laundry, spacious L-shaped private porches on the bay side and balconies on the Gulf side.
Both levels receive very pleasant breezes that blow across the island from the Gulf. There are many days in a year when guests find the air conditioner unnecessary.
Eastern half of each unit features an open concept, tiled (upper unit) or hardwood (lower unit) living room, kitchen with breakfast bar, and dining room with a big round table and comfortable sofas. Two french doors lead to a very spacious porch furnished with outdoor furniture. Adjacent to the kitchen is a laundry room equipped with washer and dryer as well as an iron and an ironing board. Kitchen has a fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, stove with oven, double sink with garbage disposer and dishwasher. Cupboards contain plenty of cookware, dinnerware and cutlery for gourmet dining and wining. Entertainment center has a big screen high definition TV (HDTV) and DVD player. There are plenty of fiction and mystery books by best American authors provided for avid readers.
In addition, we provide a WiFi internet connection and free phone calls within north America (optional). Guests can set up a cozy office space using provided table and chairs and telework (that might be hard to do in the relaxing atmosphere of the island :-))!
There are two spacious tiled bedrooms on the west side of each unit. Master bedroom has full bathroom, walk-in spacious closet, night stands, big mirror, chest of drawers, comfortable queen bed, and cable TV. Guest room contains a closet, night stands, big mirror and two twin beds. Large glass sliding doors lead from both bedrooms to the balcony overlooking path to the beach along the West side of the house.
Another full bathroom is located off the hallway. In the hallway closet, guests will find supplies of fresh bath and beach towels, linens, blankets and extra pillows.
In total, the two bedrooms provide comfortable sleeping for family of four; however, there is plenty of sleeping space in the living room for two more persons.
We are animal lovers and consider pets family members who deserve a vacation too. Polite pets are welcome to stay for additional fee. Please note, our pet fees vary from $100 to $150 depending on the number, size and breeds of pets. Please let us know up front in your initial inquiry what pets and how many you are planning to bring with you or your friends or visitors will be bringing. It is very important for us to know all that information to arrange for proper cleaning, as people who will stay after you might be allergic to animals.
If you are making a last minute reservation, we will require you to also add a $30 key service fee, so you could pick up the keys at the local management company. For advanced reservations, we mail the keys with prepaid return envelope to your address of choice at no extra charge.
If you have generated a Booking Request using Book Now button, and some fees are not automatically included, we will adjust the final cost by subtracting the missing fees from the $300 refundable security deposit. Please check with owners if in doubt about applicable fees.
We are biologists currently living and working in Maryland. We love Florida, nature photography, clean environment, animals and adventure.
Beach and Bay Retreat manager purchased this house in 2011
We always wanted to own a house in Florida. We traveled all over the state from Panhandle to Key West and from the Atlantic to the Gulf of Mexico. Anna Maria Island won our hearts with its white pristine uncrowded beaches, clear calm water of the Gulf, abundance of birds and marine creatures and absence of high risers and strip malls.
We became owners of this house in late 2011. We fell in love with its airy light atmosphere and generous floor plan. From the flat roof, one can overlook long stretches of the island and observe sunrises over Sarasota bay and sunsets over the Gulf. We have made lots of renovations, including new roof and porches, to make sure our guests feel as comfortable as possible both during short vacations, and long monthly rentals.
We like that the house does not stay right on the beach front. This creates a more common home-like atmosphere, as if you would live in the city, yet know that you can walk 200 steps and find yourself in a completely different world of the beach, with bright sun over deep and warm white sands. As an extra bonus, it is attractive for people who would like to vacation on the budget, yet be ridiculously close to the beach and the bay.
My wife and I had a very relaxing vacation at this Beach and Bay home. It was well equipped with everything you need for a weeks stay. We especially appreciated being right across the street from the beach and all the beach amenities ( umbrellas, chairs, beach wagons, etc) were all provided for our use.
Thanks again for a very enjoyable getaway.

We were in quite a bind as we headed toward Florida from Indiana. We had rented a home months prior to our visit to Florida and just a couple days before we were to leave the owners of the home called and cancelled our reservation due to illness. We were stranded!!
On the way down to Florida (with two dogs) I researched what else was available and found this home. Sounding too good to be true, I called the number and left a message. Within a very short time the owner, Emir, called me back and I shared with him our situation. He asked a few questions and then agreed to rent to us. We made payment and he sent us all the necessary information. He was WONDERFUL to work with.
We arrived at the home quite late at night and I called Emir and he was so gracious and helpful getting us into the home. We were tired and ready for some rest, hoping we made the right decision, we walked into the home to find a very pleasant surprise. It is lovely!!! It is well-supplied with sheets and towels, blankets and kitchen items. There were even beach chairs and toys in the storage below. Be sure to bring toilet paper and dish soap though. Everything about the home is wonderful!!!
There was only one drawback and that had nothing to do with the home. Dogs were not allowed on any of the beaches nearby. We had to drive for miles to find a beach dogs were allowed, and then it was only on a leash. It was just a tiny area of beach and we wanted to let our dogs run in the sand. In speaking with Emir, he reminded me that dogs can be quite harmful to the turtles and it was close to their birthing time. I understood.
We enjoyed our stay at the beach house. We stayed on the 2nd floor - one flight up from the garage level. The bedrooms were very large. We used the crib in the master bedroom closet for our 6 month old - the closet is huge! There also is a huge laundry room. The unit has lots of light and windows. The living area was very big, and the outside deck was very nice too. There is a park a couple blocks away for kids on the bay side. The beach was a 5 minute walk and the house provided umbrellas, beach towels, sand toys, and wagons to pull the beach equipment to the beach. The owner was very good at communications before and during our stay. The bathtubs were slippery (faux marble surface) so we bought a rubber mat, but realized later that there were rubber mats in the bathrooms under the sinks. The location is great in the middle of the island, too. The house was very clean. There are tons of restaurants and shopping about a mile away with a small convenience store and one restaurant about a block away.
Our family (4) people spent Christmas here. It was comfortable and just perfect for us. Location is great, a short walk to the beach. Right between the bridges which is convenient, close to all shopping, restaurants, and felt like an island get a way. Would definately rent again from this owner.
We are happy we found this wonderful quiet place after years of renting in this area and in most cases having at least some problems with previous rental properties.
- House is surprisingly spacious for this area. They even have walk in closet in the master bedroom which is the size of some rooms we stayed in before. Also separate laundry room.
- Big L-shaped porch with chairs and lounges. Sunrises every morning while sipping coffee! Nice breeze, too.
- Beach is just down the street. Not crowded, but you can see crowds about 2-3 blocks away on right and left. Many birds of different kinds, some nesting right in the sand. We frequently see little turtle hatchlings on that beach summer nights.
- Storage garage with beach carts, umbrellas, etc., was very handy. We also stored there our own bicycles and kayaks we rented locally.
- Close to shopping and restaurants/bars. 24h convenience store just around the corner.
- Free island shuttle stops at the end of the street and will take you anywhere on the island.
- A nice restaurant (Sharky's) is right at the street end as well.
- No pool. No big deal for us, as the beach is so close.
- The house is a bit far away (~1 mile) from the historical Bradenton Beach area with all the restaurants, bars, etc. where we like to stroll during evenings to watch the crowds. We cooked our meals though, as were try to save.
- No boat ramps nearby, but there are ramps a short drive away. We were able to launch kayaks at the end of the street though.
This place is a very good value for the money. We did not have any problems or issues.
Owner is very accommodating and easy to deal with. We will definitely rent it again.
Our family of four had a terrific time during our stay! The property was was perfectly located, a quick walk to the beach (where we saw dolphins swimming twice as the sun was going down) and trolly stops. There is a cute downtown area with great food easily accessible by trolly. We really enjoyed Sharky's (at the end of the street) and Mr. Bones. The home was clean and well maintained and had everything we could ask for in terms of amenities for our stay as well as our travels to the beach. Our host, while not present, was excellent with communication. We will definitely stay again, hopefully for longer next time!
Best of both worlds – the Bay and the Beach of the Gulf of Mexico! The house is situated in the middle of a narrower part of Anna Maria Island on the boundary of the cities of Holmes Beach and Bradenton Beach. From the house’s porches and balconies, guests can see Sarasota Bay to the East and the Gulf of Mexico to the West. It's close to water on both sides with constant ocean breezes, magnificent Bay sunrises and Gulf sunsets.
The climate is temperate with very few cold days even in the dead of winter. A beautiful, non-crowded white-sand beach is just steps away. The warm waters and gentle surf of the Gulf are perfect for wading or swimming. On your way to the beach you will pass convenience store that is open 24/7 to pick up your favorite drink or ice cream, as well as some supplies.
There are usually fewer people on this stretch of the beach than elsewhere on Anna Maria. Maybe this is the reason why sea turtles prefer to lay eggs in our dunes and birds choose to nest on our beach. If you are lucky, you will catch young turtle hatchlings run to the ocean after digging themselves out of the sparkling white sand one warm summer evening. This is also a paradise for bird watchers: squadrons of pelicans and frigates flying by, colonies of several species of seagulls and shorebirds fishing and foraging in the surf.
In the water, beach goers can observe groups of skates and other fish, as well as occasional manatee, and of course dolphins. Shell collectors will be surprised to find many species of beautiful unbroken shells in the sand. Some find fossilized shark teeth.
The house is located midway between two drawbridges linking the island to the City of Bradenton on the mainland. Gulf Drive, a heritage trail, continues to the south through Longboat Key to St. Armand's circle where there is a third bridge to the mainland at Sarasota.
A large supermarket and grocery store, hardware store, drugstores, restaurants and pubs are within easy walking distance, or a quick ride on a free Island Trolley away, in bordering city of Holmes Beach.
The bustling center of Bradenton Beach is 1.5 miles south at Bridge Street with its marina, boardwalk, historic pier, shops and fine restaurants. Just to the south of Bradenton Beach across a drawbridge is the upscale community of Longboat Key, with its ocean-front mansions and high rise condominiums, followed by trendy shops of nearby St. Armand's circle.
Many famous Florida attractions are within easy driving distance: Sarasota - 35 min, Tampa - 1hr, Disneyworld - 2.5hr, Bradenton - 10 min, Longboat Key - 5 min.
Recently Manatee County introduced a free Trolley Service, which runs about every 20 minutes. These pleasant old-style vehicles, which are open in the back, travel between Coquina Beach to the South and the Village of Anna Maria to the North. They are very convenient for shopping and eating out, so you would not need to drive around the island. There are many stops along the way including ones near the house.
