About Dale Justus

I was born and raised in the Hendersonville area of NC, and have spent nearly all my life in the state. My favorite part of the state has always been and forever will be, the mountains.

Dale Justus purchased this house in 2007

Why Dale Justus chose High Country & Blue Ridge Mountains

When my wife and I started our search for a mountain retreat, we visited and fell in love with the Mount Mitchell area early on. After a number of visits and after looking at what seemed like 'hundreds' of potential places in this area, we fell in love with the River's Edge property the moment we saw it.

Our immediate and extended family, and grandchildren have spent hours of enjoyment in this house making unforgettable memories that included a White Christmas, my oldest grandson's first trout on a fly rod, and countless Thanksgiving get together.

My grandchildren like this area so much, that they bring a few friends each year as part of their birthday, and spend a long weekend fishing, tubing, swimming, and horseback riding. It's become a tradition with them. You know it's a special place if it can get teenage boys to give up cell phones and Xbox for a weekend.

This property holds a special place for me, and I hope you will find that it does the same for you and your family.

What makes this house unique

Boy, where do I start? We fell in love with this place for so many reasons:

River front - 300 feet of private river frontage makes for awesome fishing, tubing, and wading. Just down the river from our house, the Mount Mitchell Golf course beings to maintain the river. Although a special permit is required to fish there, that area has some world class, trophy brown and rainbow trout.

Relaxation - This is an area and house where you can choose just how 'engaged' you want to be. Should you decide, you can step away from technology for a bit and embrace the outdoors, of, if you prefer stay connected. I should warn you though, you won't find a better house for a nice afternoon nap with the sound of the river running gently in the background.

Activities - There are so many unique and interesting activities to do in this area that it really never gets boring.

Master shower - The master shower is certainly not anything that you'd expect in a mountain getaway. Wall to ceiling Italian tile with a sitting area and dual European shower heads.

One of the nicest cabins we have ever rented.

  • 5 of 5

You can't go wrong renting this cabin. It is beautifully decorated, comfortable and clean, and the kitchen has everything a budding chef would desire. There is a nice gas grill on the deck and a lovely stream out back. The upstairs is definitely nicer than the downstairs, but kids don't really care about decor, so put them down below and enjoy the first class bedrooms and baths upstairs. The owner is extremely accommodating--he made sure the cabin was warm when we arrived and had a new shipment of wood delivered for our stay. Unfortunately, the wood was a bit damp, but that didn't deter us from having lots of fires during our visit. Pets are welcome, and the owner is more than fair about pet fees. The wi-fi was better than we have experienced at other cabin rentals, but be prepared for somewhat spotty service. You are in the mountains, after all. Also, be aware that time and distance are not the same in the Asheville area. When you factor in winding roads and low speed limits, it will take 1 hour and 15 minutes to get to Asheville, even though the cabin is not that far away in terms of miles. All in all, we had a fabulous time and will definitely rent from the owner again. I would rate this one of our best experiences with VRBO.

Thanksgiving to remember!!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving together as a family in this retreat!! The kitchen had everything we needed to cook our Thanksgiving meal. The house was comfortable and had plenty of room for our large family. The owners were very nice and we really enjoyed our stay. We'd love to return in the future! Thanks again Dale, we had a great time.
