First Light is a spacious 3 bedroom + loft, 3 bathroom waterfront cabin with astounding easterly and southern views for inspiring sunrises and star-filled nights. Wildlife including bald eagles, ospreys, harbour seals, loons and ducks are common sightings and occasionally harbor porpoises as well. Enjoy watching the majestic sailboats and working lobster boats. Use the telescope or binoculars provided for closeup views. The telescope is also great for night sky viewing as our location is unspoiled by artificial lights.

Lounge on the double decks, the 100 foot pier and dock, or around the waterfront fire pit watching the majestic sailboats, working lobster boats, and wildlife.Take a coastal walk or enjoy a hike on the island's Bonyun Preserve.

First Light Cabin is truly a dream for boaters and kayakers alike with over 150’ feet of waterfront and a state of the art dock and mooring. Its prime location on the Sheepscot River puts you just minutes from the open ocean, yet securely nestled in the mouth of the Sheepscot for protection as well as easy access to Boothbay Harbor and downtown Wiscasset. On the waterfront is a private, state-of-the-art deep water dock, 100' pier, and float with dinghy ramp for enhanced ease and safety. The float offers at least 8’ at mean low tide and for deeper draft, you can tie up at the mooring. Also located on the pier is a fabulous boater's shed to store all your gear, making water excursions a breeze. A mooring just off the dock is also included with the rental. The cottage is nicely perched on a slight hill just above the Sheepscot River offering fantastic views. The waterfront is private to the cottage just a quick walk down the hill.

The spacious cabin will comfortably accommodate up to 8 guests with three comfortable bedrooms, three large bathrooms, and a bonus sleeping loft accessed by a normal staircase. Nearly every room in the cabin features spectacular water views.

MAIN LEVEL: A spacious, open and airy great room w/vaulted ceiling and floor to ceiling windows which enhance the spectacular view of the waterfront. This level also includes a separate TV room, nicely appointed kitchen with top of the line appliances, a large screen porch that serves as the dining room, and master bedroom and bathroom. Perched above the great room is a sleeping loft which is accessed by a large handcrafted staircase (not by a ladder).

KITCHEN: Large kitchen w/ample custom cabinetry, breakfast bar, soap stone sink, gas cooktop, double wall ovens, large capacity stainless steel refrigerator with in-door water and ice, dishwasher, microwave oven, Keurig coffee maker, Mr. Coffee drip coffee maker, toaster, blender, lobster pots and much more.

DINING ROOM: Just off the kitchen, a newly-built three season porch acts as the cabin dining room. It features a vaulted ceiling and beautiful dining table which seats 10.

GREAT ROOM: With a lovely view of the waterfront, this room has a sofa, armchairs, flat screen TV, DVD player, and bookcases with a selection of books, games, and DVDs.

MASTER BEDROOM: A large room with a newer king-size high quality mattress, quality linens, en suite bathroom with oversized luxury shower w/multiple shower heads, his and her cedar closets, dresser, vanity, vaulted ceiling w/ceiling fan, and air conditioner for uncommonly warm evenings. Off the master bedroom is a private screened porch with seating for two and view of the Sheepscot- perfect for morning coffee or a book before bedtime.

LOFT: The sleeping loft is perched above the living room with unmatched views of the waterfront. It features twin beds and a small closet and shelving cubby storage for clothing. The room is easily accessible by a large hand-crafted staircase (not a ladder). A large capacity LG energy star air conditioner is located in the loft and cools the entire first floor (although rarely needed with the cool ocean breezes off the waterfront).

GUEST BEDROOM ONE: Features a queen size bed with linens by Laura Ashley, en-suite private bath w/shower, and French doors leading to a large deck with incredible water views.

GUEST BEDROOM TWO: Features a queen size bed with linens by Laura Ashley, direct access to the garden level deck and just steps to a large hall bath w/oversized shower.

This floor also houses the laundry area featuring new Maytag front load washer and dryer, an extra refrigerator/freezer so you can stock up on food and beverages, and a storage area for coats, suitcases and beach/party supplies.

EMERGENCY GENERATOR: A nor'Easter headed our way- no worries! The cabin has a new Generac automatic whole house generator to keep the vacation on track!

OTHER FEATURES: HD cable TV service, high-speed wireless Internet, stereo w/speakers in master bedroom and living room, high quality furniture and furnishings, new bed and bath linens featuring Laura Ashley and Ralph Lauren, telescope and binoculars, beach towels and beach chairs, ample parking, trash removal, and much more.

LOCATION: First Light Cabin is located at the southern end of Westport Island about 7 miles from the Westport Island Bridge on a private dead end road. The island itself is quiet and serene with walking trails, two nature preserves, as well as a quintessential Maine lobster co-op where you can purchase the day’s catch right off the dock. The local lobstermen love to chat and you can meet the dock dog 'Why Not Willie'. Westport Island is an ideal mid-coast location as it is close to many wonderful Maine attractions such as the Town of Wiscasset village, known as Maine’s prettiest village and home to Red’s Eats (voted Best Lobster Roll by pretty much everyone!), the Town of Bath, working waterfront and home of Bath Iron Works, the town of Damariscotta, the Maine Botanical Gardens, Freeport Outlet Shopping, and the coastal destinations Boothbay and Camden. Reid State Park, one of the best state parks in Maine, is a nice coastal drive away.

WESTPORT ISLAND: The island was settled in the 1700s and was originally part of the town of Edgecomb and known as Jeremisquam. Westport was incorporated as a separate town in 1828. Island history includes colonization dating to the 1600s, and a role in the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, and the Civil War. There are more than 70 cemeteries dotting the Island and numerous private structures with historical significance. The history is a source of pride, and an attraction for geneaologists and historic preservationists. Westport Island is accessible via a bridge opened in 1972 connecting to the Town of Wiscasset. It’s an 11-mile island, covering an area of approximately 25 square miles, surrounded by the Sheepscot and Back Rivers. It is a self-contained neighborhood of sorts, because there is little reason for those who do not live, summer or vacation on the Island to visit. There are few businesses, no fast food restaurants or chain stores. For the most part, development has let the Island be. State Highway Rte. 144, the main road, snakes along the rocky spine of the island. Trees border much of the road, giving only occasional hints of the tidal rivers and coves that give the Island its natural beauty. The road itself is the only ingress and egress to the Island. As a “dead end” without views of the island’s surrounding waters, the Main Road effectively contributes to the quiet and serenity — even when State Rte. 1 is brimming with non-stop summer traffic and noise a few miles away. Being off the beaten track makes the Island a home for those who value privacy and for those who want to be a part of a small community with qualities of a simpler time.Beyond its historical attractions — the North End Lobster Co-op, a handful of hiking preserves, the Historic Squire Tarbox Inn, and the newly opened public boat ramp are the most common reason for visitors to venture onto the Island is to seek a respite from every day life and spend a week or more in one of the coveted vacation cottages available for seasonal rental.

FIRST LIGHT: The cabin was named First Light in recognition of the incredible sunrises which can be enjoyed from nearly every room. Situated on the Sheepscot River at the southern end of the island, the cottage is located on a quiet dead-end road and offers incredible views of the Maine coastline. . If you go off island, you can quickly find many fine area restaurants including a huge lobster roll at Red’s Eats (Voted Best Lobster Rolls time and time again-Google it), Sprague's Lobster, Cook's (voted best seafood)-more. Great sandy beaches and swimming at our state parks w/in a 30-minute drive (Reid State Park and Popham State Park-fee charged), museums, and Mid coast sightseeing. A short drive to Boothbay Harbor, Camden and LLBean, Freeport Outlets! Midcoast Maine offers many festivals, gatherings, harbor seal watches, water adventures, craft fairs, sailing & fishing charters, more.

Other Activities: Tennis nearby, Fishing charters, Beautiful beaches a short drive. Located just an hour or so from Portland, it offers fast and easy access to an abundance of tourist attractions, festivals, sailing excursions, whale watches, hiking, beaches, botanical gardens, outlet shopping, and much more.

Why Connie Boyd chose Boothbay Harbor Area

Close enough yet far enough away! Westport Island is located in the Boothbay Harbor region which offers travelers many choices for water excursions, sight seeing, shopping, beaches, hiking trails, and more. The island itself is very quiet and features the North End Lobster Co op and a few nice hiking trails thereby providing a quiet place to retreat to at the end of your day. The cabin is located near the end of a dead end street offering a quiet spot to relax. There are expansive water views by day to watch the sailboats, lobster boats and sea life. The starlit sky by night is astounding and we provide a telescope for stargazing. The cottage and grounds are so enjoyable you may never want to leave it!

Hi Connie,

Been busy BACK to WORK ! I wanted to tell you early on...that your place

is CLEAN< CLEAN< CLEAN> Whoever you have to clean your place......they

are a keeper !!!!!! We miss the place and certainly enjoyed our week

them to Disney World. We have only been taken LONG weekends. But now

that we have the "WEEK LONG VACATION" bug in us...we will certainly be

doing it more often !!!

Pleasantly surprised!

We stayed in the First Light Cottage for our 25th Anniversary. IAs we drove into the driveway we quickly discovered how breathtaking the view were of the Sheepscot River. The "cottage" was actually a "castle" on the hill. It had every amenity you could think of and was incredibly clean. All of the rooms were well stocked with towels and the bedding was so cozy. THe kitchen was perfectly spacious and had a number of good sized pots for my crew. I will be back with more of my gang in the Spring. Thank Connie!

Perfect!

Our family was in Westport Island for a wedding in September. This was my first experience with Home Away and I did not know what to expect. Our stay at First Light was fabulous! We kayaked, swam and enjoyed the wonderful views. Connie’s decorating touches, whimsical appointments, and attention to providing comfortable surroundings were greatly appreciated. I will suggest to others, who might be planning a Maine vacation, to choose First Light for their stay. I have happy memories of our stay in First Light Cottage.

Magical

  • 5 of 5

This was our first holiday visit to Maine, and we could not have chosen a more perfect rental. The home is even more beautiful and welcoming than advertised and provided the perfect base for exploring all that the mid-coast has to offer.

The owners, it seems, have thought of everything. It is clear from the renovations and amenities that great care was taken to help vacationers like us feel completely at home. Details like the availability of a telescope and high quality binoculars let us easily enjoy watching the harbor seals cavort in the water. What a treat.

The dock and pier, just a short walk down the hill from the house, proved a terrific venue for picnicking and just hanging out. We made extensive use of the two person kayak provided to explore the coastline. Be sure to keep an eye out as the lobstermen come by to check their traps!

Connie was great to deal with. Very responsive in every way. We can't wait for next year!

Magnificent!

  • 5 of 5

The First Light Cottage is by far the most beautiful place we have ever rented. It is spacious and fabulously decorated. It is not a typical rental property for sure. We loved having a cup of morning coffee on the little screen deck off the master bedroom and even caught the sunrise once or twice. The views are incredible and we enjoyed watching the sailboats and lobster boats go by. The cottage is located in a very quiet area. We took long walks and enjoyed every minute of the vacation. The owner is a pleasure to deal with and always quick to respond to our questions. So glad we discovered this place and can't wait to go back.
