About Dana Reeve

My husband and I purchased 3 lake lots on beautiful Lake Wedowee in 1995. We built the house in '97 using a modified Southern Living house plan, 'Nautical Cottage'. We both have large extended families and we wanted a place that would accommodate a crowd. We now co-own the house/lots with the Gary and Leslie Cottrell family and have 6 children between us ranging in ages 30-21 yrs. We have been vacationing here for years , enjoying the house all year long - as fun as it is during the summer months its a great get away during the 'off season', as well as in the quiet months of the winter. Did I mention the many Thanksgivings we have celebrated here!) As much as we love lake living, we found that activities kept us from using the home as much as we wanted. By renting the house, our guests can enjoy the lake as much as we do

Dana Reeve purchased this house in 1997

Why Dana Reeve chose Lake Wedowee - RL Harris Reservoir

Lake Wedowee is located in the southern foothills of the Apppalachian mountain chain. It is rated as one of the cleanest lakes in Alabama. With over 270 miles of shoreline, Lake Wedowee offers an abundance of outdoor activities. Our family loves the water and my husband is an avid fisherman. it is a great place to wet a line for crappie, bass, brim or catfish

What makes this house unique

FAVORITE THINGS TO DO AT LAKE WEDOWEE...meeting the morning with coffee on the porch...watching my husband trolling thru the water fishing @ sun-up...a trail run along the quiet paths in our neighborhood -ending with a jump into the lake...a group of children catching fish off the dock...the smell of breakfast...'noodling'off our dock all afternoon... seeing the dogs enjoy the lake experience...a group swim across the cove to jump off Mr. Warren's double decker dock...a nap in the hammock listening to water lapping against the shore line...exploring quiet coves in the kayak...open water swim to the end of our cove...watching little ones play boating games in their private shallow swimming area btw the docks...reading/napping on the covered porch listening to the hum of the fan...family games during a rain storm under the shelter of the screened porch...friends driving by on theirs boats and stopping to sit a spell and visit...finding the best rope swing on the lake... too many cooks in the kitchen or at the grill preparing a meal with good drinks and great music... ALL sitting down to share a meal in the great outdoors...family dance parties...trips to the Marina for bait and treats...Worship on the Water at Lakeside..Not missing church by having our own Sunday School lesson on the deck with listeners completely attentive so they will be chosen first to TUBE ...fireworks from the dock...picking blueberries outside my kitchen window in July...watching the sunset flying squirrel show... candlelight and conversation...a full moon illuminating the inside of the house...enjoying a break from our hectic life with family and friends, surrounded by God's perfect natural world... falling into bed exhausted..AND...waking up the next day TO DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN...INFINITE JOY!!

We come several times a summer to the lake and are always excited when this house is available. Everything you need in the kitchen is available and it's a great location on the lake. Owners are extremely welcoming!

A-mazing!!

  • 4 of 5

We arrived on Friday, and found the hot water heater had gone out, and leaked downstairs in the bedroom and bath. They had done a good job getting a lot of water out, and it was repaired in no time. We just punted and moved one of the mattresses around, worked out fine. Which is why we had to give it only 4 stars.

The house and grounds were all we anticipated, and we used every single inch of it. The porches were well used by the Grandmothers, who went from one swing to the other. We had a puzzle set up on the table in the covered porch, and used the fire pit on the other in the evening, while playing corn hole. The kitchen was big enough to work around, to feed a group of 14, even the huge pantry was a life saver. The kitchen was fully stocked adequately with cookware, serving ware and implements. We honestly could have just brought our food, everything else was provided. Our big family meals were enjoyed around the massive farm table.

The outside areas were great. The family enjoyed the little john boat and kayak. Many evenings were spent paddling around the cove, or fishing from the docks.

The house easily accommodated our group and we hope to come back. The owners were on top of things, and were a joy to work with. We can only say great things about the property and the owner families. We have rented many vacation homes, but would certainly put the lake house at the top of the list, and recommend it without reservation. Thank you Dana!!!

We spent a wonderful Thanksgiving week with our family at Wedowee.

  • 4 of 5

The house was ideal for our needs with plenty of space for everyone to enjoy being together or pulling away for a little quiet time. The deck was our favorite spot with a fire going in the evenings and warm enough to lounge in the sun in the afternoons. The kids canoed and fished off the dock; the lawn was perfect for kanjam tournaments; and the great room was exactly what we needed for watching the games while we prepared meals. The owners were very accommodating.

Beautiful place

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed four nights. The house is beautiful, well appointed and very spacious. My teens loved using the kayaks, canoe and fishing gear, exploring the lake and fishing. We considered renting a pontoon boat but with all the watercraft that comes with this rental, we really didn't need to. Teens also enjoyed having their own space downstairs with the pig pong table, entertainment center and even another fridge. We spent time on the screened in porch and the covered deck overlooking the water. Both are filled with comfortable furniture and both have a swing and overhead ceiling fans. There are two docks, one covered and one not. We spent every evening on the covered dock fishing and watching the sun set. Beds are comfortable and there are enough pillows and blankets for a small army. Ice maker in the kitchen was good for filling up coolers for a day on the lake. The owners were friendly and accessible. Highly recommend this property. We will be back.

Quiet, Comfortable, Peaceful

  • 4 of 5

The pictures don't do this property justice, and the serenity of the lake has to be experienced!! We were all very pleasantly surprised by the charm of this property - plenty of comfortable seating and places to relax, big kitchen and rec room, but we spent the majority of our time on the porches and down at the dock. The weather was IDEAL - warm but not humid, just an afternoon shower or two. Clearly early June is the time to come as the water temp was perfect! It was 6 of us, 2 adults and 4 teenagers, so we greatly enjoyed the kayaks, we rented a pontoon boat for a day, and we all loved floating in the peaceful cove. (FYI, the jon boat has a hole in it - we did not even untie it from the tree because of this - orange kayak also leaks). The ONLY reason I gave this 4 stars and not 5 was for cleanliness. I've owned a beach condo for 14 years and totally understand the challenge of getting a good cleaning crew to do a thorough job - you might want to do an inspection or two after cleaning to check on the finer points. I had to clean the kitchen sink, outside of the pantry door, and inside of the microwave before I could use it. I'm not a neat freak but they were pretty bad. That puffer fish over the food prep area could stand to be thrown away, actually! However, all the sheets and linens were in great shape. Just a few ants in the kitchen but we kept on top of the dishes and they stayed away. However they completely moved into our truck, even though it was totally food-free!! Recommend to future guests to just spray your tires (spray was under the sink) every couple of days. Overall we had one of the most relaxing vacations of our lives, highly recommend this lake house for sure!!! Thanks!!!

Owner's Response: I accept full responsibility for the conditions at the lake house. First, I am responsible for the cleaning and upkeep of the lake house. I am one of the two families who own and share responsibilities for the lake house. Rarely do we use a service because we want it done right. But once or twice a year we will have a calendar conflict and we hire someone to clean for us. Sometimes, I guess I must overlook some things. Again, I accept this responsibility. I am sorry for any condition that does not meet your expectations. Second, the ants have been very difficult to rein in, but I think we are getting there. Treatment after treatment continued to allow ants to enter the house. So, I’ve learned to keep all tree limgs and shrubs away from the house. One leaf contacting the house provides entrance for the ants even though we might have a very wide treated ground perimeter. As this is a wild area there are plenty of ants beyond our treated perimeter just waiting to find access to the house. The ants will travel great distances to the house through the tree canopy. Any items leaned against the house may provide the ants access to the house. For those that do make it into the house, please try the Terro bait that I keep in the window above the kitchen sink. The ants that I’ve found in the house will eat Terro and their numbers will diminish. As we try to keep the perimeter treated, anything that you choose to do should be aimed at bait or killing by direct contact with a safe household spray. Because we are a lake house, I prefer not to “over treat” the perimeter because of run off to our beautiful lake. If at any time a guest finds any condition that is not acceptable, please let me know immediately. Thank you for choosing our lake house. It is a pleasure to know that guests are enjoying our lake home.
