Ithaca Cottage Rental Photos and Description

2 bedrooms, 1 bath pet friendly with wooded lot, minutes to downtown Ithaca

This vacation property has a very large patio overlooking the lake with a fireplace and a hot tub which provide a wonderful night-time place to relax. This cottage was a speakeasy in the 1920s, so it has plenty of charm, but it was fully renovated in 2009. One bedroom has a queen sized bed, the second bedroom has a full-size bed. The maximum occupancy is 4. Front-loading washing machine and dishwasher included. Not suitable for children under 4 years old.

About Elena Collinsworth

I moved to Ithaca to attend veterinary school where I met my husband at a mutual friends 4th of July party. He was a lecturer for ROTC at Cornell, and we both since have been relocated to Virginia. We really loved Ithaca, and hope to return someday. Many hours were spent in the yellow cottage with friends and family, and my best friend/sister from another mother was my roommate. The cottage was restored with love and care, and I put in many hours of work on the house myself.

Elena Collinsworth purchased this cottage in 2009

Why Elena Collinsworth chose Cayuga Lake

I fell in love with the property and the character of the cottage immediately. Many people had passed it over because it needed TLC. I think you will also fall in love with the uniqueness and surroundings of this little cottage. I added a hot tub in 2011, and many hours were passed under the stars talking with friends and enjoying the twinkling lights on the other side of the lake through the trees.

Ideal spot for a get-away

  • 5 of 5

The yellow cottage is clean, charming, hip, functional, filled with sharp, new high-end finishes and a perfect location- close to everything. It's a bit of an adventure to change the 'lakeview' to 'lakefront', but completely possible. I would recommend bringing your own movies or just ignore the TV altogether, which is a better idea. We had beautiful August weather and did not miss AC at all. I would have shut it off to appreciate the restored windows that let in lots of cool air provided by the shade. Thanks so much!

Awesome little cottage close to everything.

  • 5 of 5

This cute little refurbished cottage was perfect for me, my husband, and our adult daughter who flew in to join us. The Ithaca airport is less than 10 minutes away. Myers Park in Lansing is very close and is great for swimming. We brought our bicycles from Maryland and enjoyed biking around town and on the bike trails. You can park at the bottom of the hill at Stewart Park or the Visitors' Center. (We didn't bike from the house as we had no interest in biking back up the hill). The cottage is quiet and secluded, but very close to town. Although the week was hot we were pretty comfortable with just the fans. We used the hot tub and enjoyed watching the numerous chipmunks. The coffee filters, paper towels, and trash bags were appreciated. We enjoyed the Museum of the Earth on the other side of Cayuga Lake. Great burgers and homemade soups at Glenwood Pines. Two Goats Brewery overlooking Seneca Lake was a nice drive with good beer and a 'Beef on Weck' sandwich at the other end. Overall a wonderful house and location. A great experience for our first VRBO.

A great place to stay in the finger lakes region.

  • 5 of 5

Elena's little yellow cottage was perfect for our weekend getaway to the finger lakes. It was quiet, secluded and everything was as described. The cottage is very well maintained and clean. The only negative is that there is no AC, which on a very hot day is manageable with the windows open and fans blowing. There has been alot of work put into the home and it was recently renovated. Our dogs enjoyed running in the front while we sat at the fire pit. We enjoyed our stay at the cottage and look forward to returning to the finger lakes.

A perfect location for our needs!

  • 4 of 5

We visit Ithaca fairly often to see our darling grandson, and we have rented the little yellow house in the past. That was during the coldest month ever experienced in Ithaca (Feb., 2015)!! We were snug and warm, though. This time the peonies were in bloom, and the hammock was ready to swing sweet Lucas. The house has everything we need, with its updated kitchen, sunny dining room/sunroom, and cozy atmosphere. It is very cozy, quiet, and private. We will definitely be staying here again!

Quiet Relaxing Refuge in the Woods

  • 4 of 5

Elena's home is very cute and well appointed... modern updated kitchen ... large open sunroom / dining room with a view out the back towards the lake... I suspect once the leaves drop in the fall, the lake view and sunsets would be spectacular! The home was perfect for four of us... only limiting characteristic was having just the one bath... but we had no problems with having sufficient hot water. We hiked down the steep gorge path down to the lake front and found beautiful waterfalls and streams tucked in the thick woods adjacent to the property. Will definitely visit again. Thanks.

A quaint, seculded, cozy cottage

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing find this was! The location was just about perfect. Enough out of the way that you got the rural cottage feel, yet extremely close to anything you'd want to do. Downtown Ithaca wasn't more than 5-10 mins away. The house was perfectly comfortable and had the perfect amount of space for two couples for a few days. We also thoroughly enjoyed having the hot tub available. Only wish that we could have stayed longer, we're already planning our next trip to the area. Thanks!

Nearest Airport
4 Miles
Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport

The cottage is located in a spot that I think is great for access to everything the Fingerlakes have to offer. It is only a couple of minutes away from the mall and the grocery store along with plenty of restaurants on Triphammer road. It also abuts the most historic neighborhood of Cayuga Heights where stately mansions nestle along the road with cliff views of all of Ithaca. Yet the cottage is fairly secluded, and surrounded by forests on a very quiet street. If you go up East Shore drive you will get to the vineyards along the East side of the lake and the cute little town of Aurora where the McKenzie-Childs farm is located (this is a very nice drive and visit to the founding location of this high-end whimsical furniture and home décor company). If you drive in the other direction there is an area for swimming at the Cornell sailing school that is only a couple of minutes down the road toward Ithaca. You can rent kayaks at Puddledockers, which is about ten minutes from the cottage near Meadow street. The commons is the boutique shopping pedestrian mall of Ithaca with plenty of great restaurants, and it is in the center of downtown, and also only ten minutes from the cottage. A thirty minute drive will take you to the many wineries on the West side of the lake and the quaint village of Trumansburg with plenty of antique shopping along the way. Robert H. Treman State Park is a great place to hike the gorges, and it is about fifteen minutes away from the cottage off of Meadow st. Ithaca Brewery is near to Treman Park, and it offers many nationally known micro-brews along with great locally-sourced food. The iconic Ithaca Falls are less than ten minutes away from the cottage (just drive down East Shore drive and head straight past Ithaca High School and the falls are on the left). Stewart Park is about five minutes away, which is the home to many festivals in Ithaca (Including Beerfest and the Scottish festival) and Stewart Park also has outdoor BBQ with beau
