Bedrooms 2
Space 950 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 - 5 nights

About the property

2 bedrooms, 1 bath pet friendly with wooded lot, minutes to downtown Ithaca

This vacation property has a very large patio overlooking the lake with a fireplace and a hot tub which provide a wonderful night-time place to relax. This cottage was a speakeasy in the 1920s, so it has plenty of charm, but it was fully renovated in 2009. Both bedrooms have a new queen size memory foam mattress. The maximum occupancy is 4. Front-loading washing machine/dryer and dishwasher included. Not suitable for children under 4 years old due to things not being baby-proofed. You cannot access the lake from the property, but there is a swimming area just a 2 minute drive down the hill towards Ithaca. The Commons (popular restaurant and shops pedestrian area in downtown Ithaca) and Cornell both just a 10 minute drive away.

About Elena Collinsworth

I moved to Ithaca to attend veterinary school where I met my husband at a mutual friends 4th of July party. He was a lecturer for ROTC at Cornell, and we both since have been relocated to Virginia. We really loved Ithaca, and hope to return someday. Many hours were spent in the yellow cottage with friends and family, and my best friend was my roommate. The cottage was restored with love and care, and I put in many hours of work on the house myself.

Elena Collinsworth purchased this cottage in 2009

Why Elena Collinsworth chose Ithaca

I fell in love with the property and the character of the cottage immediately. Many people had passed it over because it needed TLC. I think you will also fall in love with the uniqueness and surroundings of this little cottage. I added a hot tub in 2011, and many hours were passed under the stars talking with friends and enjoying the twinkling lights on the other side of the lake through the trees.

Great value and convenience

  • 3 of 5

I stayed a week with my husband and three retired racing Greyhounds. The size and location were perfect. Views of the lake were still obscured by.the leaves, but great views are just a short drive away in Stewart Park. The property is clean and the mattresses are very comfortable. The kitchen has been nicely updated, but pots and pans are limited. The knife selection, however, I was the best that I have had in a rental. The owner is very responsive to questions/needs.

This place was perfect for us! All the conveniences of home in the well appointed little house, but step out the back door and you're in the woods! We really loved the patio and outdoor fireplace. What a great way to relax after a busy day enjoying the beautiful lake, parks, and wineries. A chilly morning spent in the hottub with our coffee - nice! The kitchen had everything we needed and then some. The house is much roomier than it appears in the pictures. Location is great too, only minutes from Ithaca but has a very rustic feel. Super quiet at night, slept great! Loved it! We'll be back next year!

Great Place

  • 5 of 5

Spent two (2) nights here. It's bigger than it looks in the pictures. Everything was clean. All of the fixtures and appliances (except for the microwave) were very modern. The shower was amazing. The beds were like concrete you'll like them if you like a REALLY firm bed. Outdoor fireplace was cute, but not very was like trying to build a fire on the side of a wall. But the area around the fireplace was again, much bigger than it looked in the pictures. Elena was extremely friendly, accommodating and responsive. Location was very close to downtown Ithaca. Would I stay here again? Absolutely.

A wonderful stay at the little yellow cottage

  • 4 of 5

A lovely little cottage very convenient to Ithaca and so many outdoor activities in the Finger Lakes region. We spent a very enjoyable week here, the first half with just my husband, and the second half joined by our two adult daughters and our dog. We made some simple meals in the kitchen, and it was nice to have two rooms (porch and living area) to relax in. We didn't use the outdoor area too much because it was a bit buggy out. The beds were very comfortable.

Lovely and conveniently located

  • 4 of 5

My family of 4 had a nice time visiting the Ithaca area and all the summer outdoor activities it offers. Nice layout for cooking/entertaining, indoors and out. My children really enjoyed the hot tub. Beautiful wooded lot; would have a great view of Cayuga Lake we're it not for the trees! We'd come back if we're in the area.

Nearest Airport
4 Miles
Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport

The cottage is located in a spot that I think is great for access to everything the Fingerlakes have to offer. It is only a couple of minutes away from the mall and the grocery store along with plenty of restaurants on Triphammer road. It also abuts the most historic neighborhood of Cayuga Heights where there are stately mansions nestle along the road with cliff views of all of Ithaca. Yet the cottage is fairly secluded, and surrounded by forests on a very quiet street. If you go up East Shore drive you will get to the vineyards along the East side of the lake and the cute little town of Aurora where the McKenzie-Childs farm is located (this is a very nice drive and visit to the founding location of this high-end whimsical furniture and home décor company). If you drive in the other direction there is an area for swimming at the Cornell sailing school that is only a couple of minutes down the road toward Ithaca. You can rent kayaks at Puddledockers, which is about ten minutes from the cottage near Meadow street. The commons is the boutique shopping pedestrian mall of Ithaca with plenty of great restaurants, and it is in the center of downtown, and also only ten minutes from the cottage. A thirty minute drive will take you to the many wineries on the West side of the lake and the quaint village of Trumansburg with plenty of antique shopping along the way. Robert H. Treman State Park is a great place to hike the gorges, and it is about fifteen minutes away from the cottage off of Meadow st. Ithaca Brewery is near to Treman Park, and it offers many nationally known micro-brews along with great locally-sourced food. The iconic Ithaca Falls are about a 5 minute drive away from the cottage (just drive down East Shore drive and head straight past Ithaca High School and the falls are on the left). Stewart Park is about five minutes away, which is the home to many festivals in Ithaca (Including Beerfest and the Scottish festival) and Stewart Park also has outdoor BBQ with a beautiful view of the lake.
