Originally from France, we discovered Saint Martin in 1996. Since this date, we have been going on holidays every year. We have another listing on this site (n°354702).

MERTEN purchased this apartment in 2009

Why MERTEN chose World

we have travelled a lot and Orient Bay is a very wonderful place to have nice holidays. There is one of the most beautiful beach of the Island. The residence Mont Vernont has a view on the beach and a direct access to it. Moreover ,there are many activities, restaurants , supermarkets close to the residence which make the life easier.

Great place

  • 5 of 5

We spent wonderful three weeks in this studio in November. We are always looking for secluded, not overcrowded places and we definitely found it here. We usually met only a few people in the residence as the most of them are probably living there and working in St. Martin. So, also the pool is very relaxing and there are only a few people using it during the day. The studio is very spacious and fully equipped - it is almost the same as shown on the pictures with some small changes. The highlight is the view which is really beautiful at all times of the day. We enjoyed it very much. Having breakfast and watching the sea is a dream. All the sofas, chairs and the bed are comfortable so we really felt like at home. We used to cook by ourselves on most of the days and we found everything we needed in the kitchen. There is a small store in the residence which has the necessary things you may need upon arrival. In the evenings there is a pizzeria next to this shop which has a very delicious pizza. Another grocery store is located in Orient Village where you can walk on the beach. The beach has soft sand and it is enough long for good walks. It can get crowded during the day (depends of how many cruise ships are currently in the port) but we walked every morning and there were only a few people on the beach. We felt totally safe in the residence and also during walking outside. The local people are very nice and helpful. We really enjoyed every minute in this studio and we would ask for it again if returning to St. Martin.

Martine is very helpful, we always got a quick answer if we sent an email with some questions. We didn't find any serious weaknesses during the three weeks.

Thank you Martine for a great holiday.

Recommended with a caveat

  • 4 of 5

We just returned from spending 8 nights at Martine's place. I totally agree with all that was said about her, responsive and gracious host. She was very patient when our wire transfer took much longer than anticipated and she was always extremely quick in answering our e-mails. The apartment interior is exactly as shown on this site, beautifully decorated with nice amenities (including ice maker in the fridge, a nice surprise). The only photo not truly depicting current conditions is the one of the "terrace" outside the apartment. What appears like nice wood planks on the photos is currently dried-up grass. And there are no bushes with pretty blue flowers. Maybe the wood got destroyed in the last hurricane and the bushes died due to the terrible drought (latter none of Martine's fault of course). But I must admit we were disappointed that the photo wasn't updated to depict the real setting. Furthermore, due to the odor from all the seaweed on the beach right in front of the property, we couldn't open the doors, it was really bad. Nothing Martine could do about the seaweed situation either (which is getting more prevalent on many of the beaches which is a shame). Just to bear in mind if you travel there soon (local authorities are looking into ways to address the seaweed problem). I think it would be fair to say that the photo of the outside of the apartment should be updated to represent the actual condition. That said, not sitting outside the apartment didn't spoil our vacation, we enjoyed touring the island and exploring many seaweed-free beaches (Mullet Bay and Baie Rouge were some of our favorites).

First time in St. Martin & we couldn't have chosen a better place to stay!!

  • 5 of 5

What we originally thought would be a romantic anniversary trip for my husband and myself quickly turned into a family vacation including our 4 year old daughter & 9 month old son. I was still nursing the baby, so I just couldn't bear to leave him behind and risk him forgetting how to nurse. So, off we went. For our first time in St. Martin, we did plenty of research to determine what was a top beach to visit. We knew we wanted to stay on the beach and also have a pool available for the little ones. We found Orient Beach to be a highly recommended beach by many visitors on the internet. Finding this chic home with a magnificent view of the beach while having the accommodations we needed seemed like a perfect fit!

Upon arriving at Mont Vernon, the outside of the place seems a little dated, but once inside Martine's place... WOW!!! The apartment was MAGNIFICENT!! It was exactly as the pictures show. The details in the modern décor truly were stunning. The views were simply breathtaking and something I could get used to seeing every day. The apartment is only a short walk to the enormous pool (3 different depths) and the beach. The pathway is cobblestone and has approximately 15 total steps (spread out). It was not steep nor difficult to climb while carrying the baby.

I loved the presence of security at all times to ensure guests and residents felt safe. We left the beautiful wall of doors wide open to fully enjoy the view and the ocean breeze. We never felt scared nor worried. We would only close them at bedtime.

We rented a car to tour the island and made a few trips to the nearby supermarket to buy groceries. The apartment had everything we needed to prepare a variety of meals during our stay. We chose to cook at least one meal everyday. If we had never left the property, we would have been just as content as it had everything we could possibly need.

Martine & Christian greeted us at the home and showed us around. They were both incredibly nice and helpful to answer any questions we had. They had a few refreshments waiting for us in the refrigerator (a couple of local beers, soda, and even some juice boxes for the little ones).

I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting St. Martin. We definitely plan to return for a true anniversary trip...minus the little ones.

Definitly recommended!

  • 5 of 5

Me and my spouse (early 30's) stayed at Martine's waterfront view Orient Bay Beach condo mid-April 2015. The condo was exactly has showed on the pictures, well furnished with all necessary amenities (modern appliances) to eat in and be comfortable. No disappointment there! We enjoyed our stay and the view is incredible. Martine and her husband greeted us at our arrival and explained everything we needed to know. Mont Vernon is on a hill but not a big challenge to get to the unit as some other viewers might have written.

The condo location is close to grocery stores and everything that you might need. We do recommend renting a car to explore the island. The view on the pool and Orient beach which is very close walking distance is fantastic. The beach closer to the condo is quiet (presence of seaweet) and if you walk a little towards the right side of the beach you get to nicer beach sections, other hotels, beach bars, restaurants and activities...basically more action if that is what you are looking for. The pool is quiet and clean.

Only negative is the road to get to Mont Vernon which is quite horrible (wholes everywhere which slows you down) but they are suppose to fix that are redo the pavement.

Do not get caught by "Time Share" representatives who will try to make you think you won a contest and drag you to the hotel to redeem the prize.

SXM style

  • 5 of 5

My husband, young son and I thoroughly enjoyed our weeklong stay in one of Martine’s studios. Martine was responsive via email and quickly confirmed the arrangement telling us everything we needed to know on the apartment. Martine works with a husband&wife team who live at Mont Vernon and act as onsite contact. They were around the property often so if anything was needed they were easy to contact. The wife was very helpful in showing us how to drive down to the entrance to our building (careful driving skills required) so we could unload luggage/groceries closer to the unit. That was a big help. Mont Vernon is on hilltop–hence the beautiful views–but honestly the walks were not as steep as some other reviews would indicate. Not flat–but not vertical either.

The studio’s location is fantastic–right on arguably the best beach in St Martin. Within two minutes pleasant walk our toes were in the sand. If we wanted a quiet day within reach of apartment and pool, we stayed at that end of the beach. For water sports or beach bars we walked down the beach. The pool is lovely and quiet. Although some chaise cushions were weathered, overall the area was quite clean.

The apartment’s view was superb, looking directly onto the ocean and length of Orient Bay to the South, with St Barth visible in the distance. If all we did that week was sit on the comfortable balcony and gaze out – the vacation would have been worth it!

The studio was very clean and newly renovated with a vibrant blue scheme. The quality linens were European, and kitchen, with new LG appliances, was fully fitted out with every utensil, pot, pan and serving dish that one would need. We cooked for ourselves quite often, shopping at well-stocked markets down the street. Refrigerator/freezer were normal size (not minibar size) so it was possible to store enough for our needs. The small boulangerie down the hill baked yummy croissants and baguettes.

The bathroom was spacious with lots of counter space and a washing machine–a real convenience. The shower had good water pressure and plenty of hot water-even when we all showered in succession post-beach.

The reception buildings (used now to house the postboxes and resident cars) are quite weathered from the elements. That shouldn’t discourage you as the plusses of this place far outweigh the worn look of the reception building.
