There are an amazing variety and number of activities and attraction near the cabin in the Blue Ridge Area. Following is just a short sample but I encourage all interested parties to spend sometime exploring what the area has on offer.
Without getting in your car you can access Lake Blue Ridge and the Aska Trail System without getting in your car. The tocoa river is a short drive away and great for a fun after of floating down in a tube.
Hiking and mountain biking galore, including the Appalachian and the Benton MacKaye
Fishing, boating, Jet Skiing, tubing, whitewater rafting--Lake Blue Ridge, Toccoa River, Ocoee River
Horseback riding, golf, mountain biking, gem and gold panning
Antiquing--Blue Ridge has been called the antique capital of GA, and Ellijay, with its charming roundabout (instead of the typical courthouse square), has its share, too
Swan Drive-In Theater, one of the few remaining today, operating since 1955
Blue Ridge Scenic Railway, on which you can take a narrated ride from Blue Ridge to the twin cities of McKaysville GA and Copperhill TN and stand with one foot in GA and one in TN--marked with a big blue line painted through the IGA Grocery parking lot
Apple businesses where you can view the process from orchard to grocery bag, tour the facilities, shop for apple-themed goods and goodies, and try one of the area's delights: the fried pie! Ellijay is known as the apple capital of GA
Wonderful local restaurants--just a few: the Toccoa Riverside, where on weekend nights a duet of two elderly, overall-clad bluegrass pickers entertain; the Pink Pig in Cherry Log, President Jimmy Carter's favorite BBQ joint; Colonel Poole's BBQ in Ellijay, where the hillside is decorated with a giant outline of a pig compiled of hundreds of plywood pigs naming past patrons (some celebrities)
Festivals throughout the year: for example, Apple Festival, Sorghum Festival, Prater's Mill Festival, GA Mountain Fair (demonstrations of old-times mountain practices), Rhododendron Festival, Bluegrass Festival, Dahlonega's Gold Rush Days
Numerous state parks, national parks, and national forests, each with its own amenities, activities, and gorgeous scenery
Marked scenic drives/highways, almost all with scenic pull-overs and overlooks, especially important during our gorgeous autumn 'leaf-gawking' season
Countless waterfalls, one of which (Amicalola) is the tallest cascading falls east of the Mississippi; in the cabin are a pamphlets with descriptions and directions to 11 falls in the area--all of which we've hiked to--only a couple are strenuous treks
A short drive from the cabin is the longest suspension bridge east of the Mississippi, a very short and easy hike brings you to where it crosses the Toccoa River
A little further away is Tallulah Falls and Gorge, the deepest gorge east of the Mississippi.
Many other sights within a short drive, such as Brasstown Bald, the highest point in GA, Dahlonega's Gold Museum, the Alpine town of Helen
Also available in-cabin from outside sources are such services as massage and gourmet chef
Blue Ridge, Aska Trails, Amicalola Falls State Park, Ocoee Whitewater Area, Blue Ridge Scenic Railway, Cooper Creek Recreation Area, Cohutta Wilderness, Dahlonega, Vogel State Park, Unicoi State Park, Big Frog Wildelife Area, Nantahala National Forest and Whitewater Area, Fort Mountain, Chattanooga, Helen, Great Smoky Mountains National Park
My husband is a management consultant that spends too much traveling away from his family and friends so he bought this wonderful property as way to bring the people I miss together. I enjoy sharing our home with you and please to help you with your decision making and trip planning process.
Mark Landry purchased this cabin in 5
My father- in law actually saw it first. He called us over excited about the 'feeling' of this place and it's views. We were traveling overseas but decided right then to go ahead and buy it. He spends alot of time visiting and caring for the home like his own.
Once you get into the relaxed mountain mode its hard to leave and the rest of the world feels far away.
This was our second visit to this cabin, and it was once again exactly what we were looking for. The new fire pit area is an improvement to an already great place. And you couldn't ask for better hosts. I look forward to my next stay here.
We gave this home 4 stars for a couple of reasons: no guest closet in the master bedroom (there is an owner's closet but, of course, it is locked) so no place to hang clothes; no place for large group to gather where there are places to sit and watch a ballgame (only one television accessible to everyone; other TV in master bedroom) or just talk; hot tub was not heating; poor lighting throughout house; not enough seating for large group to sit at the only table for a meal (yes there are uncomfortable stools at the bar counter but we were using the counter for a buffet). Despite these few shortcomings, our family had a lovely weekend even though there really wasn't a place for all of us to gather at the same time.
Positives: wrap-around porch with magnificent views of mountains and peek-a-boo views of lake; very cooperative owner; great master suite (even without a closet); quiet and peaceful on top of the mountain; near wonderful town of Blue Ridge, GA; well equipped kitchen with plenty of counter space; comfortable beds and spacious bedrooms and bathrooms.
It's a beautiful home, obviously well built. The gathering areas just aren't suitable for as many people as the house will accommodate.
My family enjoyed everything about the cabin. The Grandchildren had a great time downstairs in their own space including games and a refrigerator. The views from the deck were beautiful. We spend every night by the fire pit. Much more relaxed than traveling to Gatlinburg. Can't wait to return.
We had a wonderful time staying at this cabin. Very comfortable sleeping arrangements, fabulous 180 degree views of mountains and lake. Top shelf accommodations, easy to get to (paved roads), hot tub, outdoor fire pit, tasteful decorations, it really had everything we were looking for. Would definitely go back...in fact my wife kept talking about how comfortable she felt and hinting at how we should buy it. lol
Stayed here with family for a few days over Columbus Day Weekend. I did not book the cabin so I cannot review that process or the owners. We were a group of 8 adults and 3 children. The cabin was neat and clean on our arrival. The kitchen was fully equipped. The view was great, especially from the 3rd floor balcony. Having a fridge in the downstairs gameroom/basement was nice. Loved the fire pit, lots of marshmallows were consumed. The kids especially had a fabulous time. Areas I think would have made this cabin a 5 star in my opinion are 1. There should be a tv on the 2nd floor. The only tv options were the game room and the 3rd floor master bedroom. So if the kids were playing Wii or watching tv the only option for the adults to watch tv was to pile up in someone's bedroom. 2. Better beds. I can only speak about the beds I had experience with. My husband and I shared a full size bed on the second floor and the mattress was not good. We both rolled to the middle. It would likely be fine for one person. The second night I decided to sleep on one of the bunk beds in the basement with the kids and I could not. The bunk beds are only suitable for children. Trying to sleep on one of those bunks reminded me of a sleeper sofa where you can feel the metal bars through the mattress. On these bunks you could feel the wood slats under the mattress. 3. There was no DVD player as advertised and even though the cabin had a small selection of DVDs there was only a BluRay player. 4. The grill on the basement level by the hot tub was unusable. The grates were rusted.
