Overall, a great spot. Quiet, river access, a nice house and a flexible host.
This place was a great spot for my friends and I. We are 30-35 years old, and got a little loud at night, but never had any complaints from neighbors or the owners. This shows the privacy and remoteness of the place.
Owners were flexible and responsive. Place was clean and more than adequate for a few nights with the guys. River access and firepit were wonderful. Really a nice place. We would rent again!
The ONLY reason I am giving the place 4 stars out of 5 is because to take items down to the river is a bit of a chore. It's probably 400 yards (estimate) and that's a long way to bring kayaks, cooler, grill (if you want to cook by river), and if you need to use the bathroom. We are all young and in decent shape, so it wasn't a big deal. Wish we had the option to back my truck down there, as that would have made it 10x easier. Maybe I should have asked! But if that doesn't bother you, this place is a 5 out of 5.
The house and the area are just great! The owners are very nice. They let as come early and stay late. The only one thing that I didn't like is the smell of running water in the house. It has a pretty bad smell. Other than that its all good.
So sorry you had a bad smell in the water. Living on the river valley, high mineral content and sometimes sulfur in the water, is one of the drawbacks. We change the water filters regularly to address the issue. Next time, please make sure to let us know right away and we will change it as quickly as possible. I do apologize, but appreciate you letting us know.
Awesome, Serene Place!
I am very familiar with Callicoon as my in-laws owned a house for over two decades up there. So when they recently sold, I was disappointed that I wouldn't have my place of solitude to go to any more. Well, when planning a recent two day retreat for myself and a client, I came across this little gem. It sat right across the river, was a short drive to town and was super, super quiet. Cindy was even so kind as to send her aunt over to let us in when we accidentally locked ourselves out with the keys inside! Highly recommend it! Enjoy!
Happy New Year!
My girlfriend and I have rented this house for New Years with 2 other couples (6 people all together). On our way there, we were pleasantly surprised that Cindy called and asked how long it will take us to get there so she can plow snow off of the driveway. Thank you again Cindy! The house looked just as described on the pictures. It was spacious, plenty of room for everybody, nicely clean and warm. You don’t need to bring any kitchen utensils, bowls, or anything like that the house was fully equipped. Since it was cold outside we were mostly in the house and one thing which each of us pointed out was the TV itself and the fact that we couldn’t really watch the Times Square Ball Drop. Also, we had some trouble with Internet, but that may have been an issue because of the snow and cold ;) I’m pretty sure Cindy will make improvements for other renters to come. Nevertheless, nothing stopped us from having fun. Although, it was very cold outside we still went out by the river where the fire pit is located. Really, there was nothing better than starting a fire and all of us enjoyed it very much for a good few hours on the fresh, cold and crisp air. Generally we had a very pleasant stay and enjoyed the nature around it, too. Also, I have to mention that the town was a mesmerizing beauty with friendly people and lots of things to do.We'll definitely be visiting during summer to explore the area broader.
Kendall, thanx for bringing air mattresses ;)
Keith thanx for helping out with a spare of keys while we locked up the door :)
Great little getaway! Super clean! Great River access for fishing and relaxing! Super private! Looking forward to staying again in the near future!
Comfortable and Quiet
Clean and comfortable, this house is perfect for a quiet country getaway. We had tickets to a show at Bethel Woods and decided to make a long weekend out of it. After unpacking on Thursday, we headed up to Long eddy to the Long Eddy Saloon for dinner. It was barbecue night. Went kayaking on the river on Friday (rented gear from Soaring Eagle Campground north on Route 97). Saturday was rainy so we took a walk north on River Rd. to the end and back. The concert was Saturday night. Sunday, we drove up to Lordville and hiked the Bouchoux trail which overlooks the river; great views! Will definitely be back.
The house is set back from the river and road. There is a path to the river where there is a hammock and fire pit. The kitchen is well appointed and stocked with all the basic staples you might need. There is AC but it wasn't too hot when we were there so we had it on FAN mode most of the time. There are also lots of ceiling fans. There is a deck in back with table and chairs and chairs on the front porch where you can sit even if it is raining.
Hope to be able to come back next year!
