I am retired Custom home builder from Chesapeake Va. but more importantly a lover of the mountains and an out door enthusiast!
My wife and I decided the mountains of West Virginia because of our love for nature!
We moved here in 2008 and have been enjoying it ever since!
I spent over 30 plus years building custom dream homes for my clients in the Tidewater area of Va.
We are now at the season in our life where we want to experience our dreams come to pass. Our dream is to simply enjoying the beautiful mountains of WV and share it with as many people as we can!
We spend our time sharing our love for God's creation with family, friends and guests here in the Mountains of WV!
We love to go skiing, hiking, biking, Kayaking and hunting. However; we also just love to relax and take in the amazing sunsets between the mountains or stargaze!
On our many hikes to waterfalls and streams our beagle, Bluebell, comes along too. She even treads through the snow along side us in the winter when we go x-country skiing or snow shoeing!
Our days are filled entertaining family and friends who have taken time off from their busy lives to visit.
We cherish the time we are able spend with them by showing off wild, wonderful WV!
We chose to have a cozy cabin here because of the amazing views of the mountains. It is positioned so you can enjoy the sunrise and the sunset!
We also chose this location because it is close to two ski resorts, Canaan Valley State park, lots of hiking trails, mountain biking, horseback riding, golfing, rock climbing, and hunting!
The real beauty here is that you are surrounded by nature. Relax and breath in the fresh mountain air!
This is a vacation spot where you really can relax and get refreshed before heading back to work.
The sunsets and star gazing rejuvenates the soul by giving us strength, peace and balance for the road ahead.
The cabin boasts of its views of the mountains and a peaceful setting.
Most of the activities such as skiing both downhill and x-country are approx. 7-10 miles away.
Horseback riding and hiking trails close as well.
We encourage people to relax around the real wood burning fireplace inside the cabin or outside by the campfire.
Star gazing is prime here in this part of WV! This is due to the fact it has been claimed to be one of the "darkest spots" on the east coast!
We certainly appreciate the comments left by our guests and would like to add that we have had in the past people on motorcycles visit us and had no problems, however the road is dirt and gravel and there is one hairpin turn, we like to call it, at the top of "Cherry Ridge".
We are not bikers but would also like to caution people with bikes of the nature of our roads.
This beautiful couple did have difficulty, and we apologized for their experience on our road and offered them a free night stay if they chose to come back.
Last night however we had eight bikers arrive at a large cabin here in "Cherry Ridge". We asked them this morning how the road was with bikes. They said "You have to be careful but it was fine." So with that being said please travel here on bikes at your own risk.
Four wheel drive is not necessary in the summer:)
This cabin has everything you need and feels like home with a beautiful view of the mountains and night sky. I've never seen so many stars! The hospitality is wonderful. The master bed is very comfortable, the hot tub on the deck has a beautiful view. Great hiking in the area, just such a relaxing place. I would definitely come back to this cabin and highly recommend this as a rental if you are looking for a quiet, peaceful place to visit.
My wife and I spent a few days in this cabin celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. The place was remarkable, from the breathtaking sunsets to the deer walking across the lawn to sitting under the stars in the hot tub. The cabin was great, I brought items that I thought that I needed but they were already in the cabin. We were close enough to drive to Dolly sods, Canaan valley and Blackwater falls. We will definitely bring our family back. It is truly a sight that everyone needs to see in there lifetime, this is truly Gods country!!!
3rd time back to this mountain, so this place has special meaning for me. The views are amazing, no mosquitos, no allergies, cool breezes, beautiful skies and star gazing, making campfires outside, lighting bugs lighting up the trees, so quiet and peaceful! You feel like you're entering a different world as soon as you drive around the bend. And the sunsets are absolutely breathtaking. Seriously! Awesome hot tub, and cooking meals was a cinch. I just like sipping my coffee on the deck or the porch.
Oh! And there are 2 outside dining tables so you can view either the sunset or sunrise or the moon rise when it is full!!!!
We happened to be there for the full moon it was amazing!
VERY clean! There wasn't even any dust outside!
Have to go back, so much more to do!
Sunset cabin is excellent, great for honeymoons, anniversaries and small families. We had our children with us and they had a blast. Thank you Dan, for taking the time to show our twins around the mountain, they got to see a black bear, many deer with their babies and a bald eagle. This is a vacation they will forever cherish! The cabin has everything you need for rest and relaxation and is spotless. Dan and Barbara are great people and will make you stay unforgettable. We hope to be back soon! Thank you Dan and Barbara for sharing your little slice of Heaven with us!!! May God Bless You!!!
My wife and I spent our honeymoon at the cabin and it was everything and more than we expected, it was perfect. The views from the cabin were spectacular!! Dan and Barbara were very helpful and kind people, they helped in making our adventurous Honeymoon a weekend we will never forget. We hiked many trails, including Dolly Sods and also climbed the via ferrata at Nrocks Outdoor adventures. We HIGHLY recommend the Sunset Cabin and we look forward to our next visit. Thank You Dan & Barbara for everything and see you soon!
Best cabin we've ever rented so far! The sunsets were truly amazing, as was the stars gazing up from the hot tub every night! Dan and Barbara were the nicest people you could meet & made us feel at home. We could live in this cabin as a permanent residence, it's that just that nice, perfect size, & perfectly decorated. We totally look forward to staying here again!!!
