Close to the hustle without the bustle. This beautiful home and (optional) cabin on Lake Michigan are situated within 15 minutes of St. Ignace (where you catch the ferry to Mackinac Island) on beautiful Pointe aux Chenes Bay. The entire bay is protected bird sanctuary and you can’t see the neighbors’ houses, so you feel like you have your own private bay all to yourselves. Less than 2 miles west of the house , there is a beautiful public sandy beach. It is perfect for families with little ones. Less than ¼ mile up Brevort Lake Road are the trail heads of the Hiawatha National Forest. Hiking, biking, bird watching and just kicking back to relax are yours to enjoy. If you are up early you can watch a beautiful sunrise and will likely see a mated pair of Sandhill Cranes doing their morning calls and dance in the front yard. The cranes stand close together, calling in a synchronized and complex duet. With their 6-8 foot wing spans it is quite a spectacular sight and worth getting up early to see.
We intended the place to be a place where we could relax and completely unplug so there is no cable or internet. Most cell phones work just fine so if you have access to the internet through your phone you'll be ok. Otherwise, there are plenty of restaurants and the library in town which have free wi-fi. There are also many books, puzzles, games and DVD player provided for your enjoyment.
The cabin rents separately from the main house for $650 this include cleaning fee of $50. The house rents for $1500 this includes cleaning fee of $200. If you want the privacy of the entire place to yourselves you can rent the house & cabin together for $1,750 this includes a cleaning fee $250. To hold a reservation we require a $200 deposit which is part of the rental fee. In addition to rental fee we require a $500 damage deposit that is refundable if property is found the way we provided it to you.
If you are interested in just the cabin, There is one bedroom with a full sized bed and one fold out couch in the living room. It also has a small shower stall with no tub. There is a full sized refrigerator, a small oven, microwave, dishes, and utensils, etc. We provide linens and towels. There is a charcoal grill outside, a small patio set, and a fire pit for your use.
In total the house can sleep 10 and the cabin can sleep 4. The house has 2 queen and 2 full beds and 2 twins. The cabin has 1 full bed and a pull out couch.
Our far-flung family rented the house and cabin for a week in July and were very pleased with everything. The interior of the house was even more spacious than it appeared in the website's photos, so we had plenty of space inside for meals and games. The deck also had plenty of room for quiet morning coffees and evening dinners for the whole group. The large gas grill came in handy too. With a number of athletic teens / young adults, the large mowed yard was very nice for frisbee, cornhole, bumping volleyball and soccer juggling. And let it be noted that the number of cars that passed by on the dead-end road was fewer than one per day, and those were traveling at 5 mph.....so it is a very secluded spot with an unobstructed view of the bay/lake. 2 miles down the road was the beach, which we used almost every day. Some days had crashing waves for riding and some days were calmer. A day trip to Mackinac Island was very convenient and fun as well. We cooked every meal in the kitchen and had everything we needed. The owner/manager were very helpful and responsive when we had any questions.
We had a great time at this house. There was plenty of room and the view was spectacular. We counted the different birds and even saw an eagle or two. The beach down highway 2 was very nice and clean. My grandson actually had to put down his electronic toys and play. There was plenty to do in the surrounding areas to keep us busy all week or just hang out on the patio and look at the birds and water.
We rented the house and cabin for our family of 8 of various ages. The location was great for us to explore all of the beauty of the Upper Peninsula.
The property is secluded and quiet. The house is extremely well-equipped, from the kitchen utensils to the game selection to outdoor furniture. The furnishings are clean and casual. We like the mix of antiques and Ikea furniture. Several conversation areas and tables allowed us to share different activities. Our weather was perfect so we were able to enjoy the water, deck, and fire pit area.
We have stayed at several VRBO properties and this one is more than adequate. We cooked almost every meal on site. There are plenty of dishes, cooking pots, utensils, and pantry items. The dishwasher is a bonus.
We saw bald eagles and enjoyed watching the water fowl and birds. We made wonderful memories and hope to return here at a future date.
If you are looking for a remote, quiet get away with spectacular views this is it. We were very comfortable in this three bedroom sprawling lake house. The spacious deck is very accommodating for patio grilling and bird watching or just staring out at the sparkling water. It was hard to bring myself to the patio when you can relax in the living area on one of three huge sofas and see just as well through all the windows. Perfect for reading, napping or enjoying the view. Tons of space for entertaining at the kitchen bar or dining table including another high top table with bar stools. There is a little road you can walk down to get to the shore or if you are wearing sturdy shoes you can traipse through the grassy area which can be rather prickly.
Being this remote and with plenty of shallow waters there were some mosquitos and bugs, but not enough to keep us from enjoying ourselves. Also, there was a note left by the owner about not drinking the water. A water cooler is available for drinking and making coffee. We brushed our teeth and showered normally.
This is a quiet cabin with a captivating view of the lake. There was no tv and no internet access. Phones worked fine on Verizon. If you want to watch anything you'll need to rent a video from the store in town.
We throughly enjoyed our stay. Really miss the view.
Only 10 miles outside of St. Ignace where you can catch the boats to Mackinac Island or drive across the awesome Mackinaw Bridge to tour the village of Mackinaw City.
