Originally a structure to house the lemon trees during the winter.
A contemporary studio apartment in a historic central Florence Limonaia. Located in a quiet private garden behind one of the city's most important Palazzos. The apartment has a private entrance, is compact with a queen sized sleeping loft that is reached via a short but relatively steep staircase. A fully equipped galley style kitchen, closets and large bathroom with walk in shower and bidet. Our apartment is suitable for a single or a couple. Much reading material, art filled walls, iPod dock, Sky cable TV, DVD player and WI-FI. This a safe and secure location with a daily doorman and the closest neighbor is the Four Seasons Hotel... A mobile phone to use while here can be arranged. We live onsite so if any little situations arise they can be dealt with quickly.
My wife and I are Americans that have lived in Italy for 13 years and travel extensively. We have tried to make our rental exactly what we would expect if we were the guests. For a city center location it is very quiet and peaceful. The complete garden and the benches around the fountain are for use by our guests but there is no outdoor space for dining/Bar-B-Q or sunbathing.
Unfortunately the mariner stairs to the sleeping loft makes this unsuitable for people with limited mobility.
Location: Central Florence, 1 block from Santissima Annunziata, two blocks from Pzz. San Marco and 3 blocks from The Duomo. Easy walk to anywhere.
I am an American businessman that came to Italy for the summer... that was 12 years ago.
We have fully renovated two historic properties and enjoy all that Italy has to offer.
We live here with our two younger daughters.
Bruce purchased this apartment in 2007
Our Limonaia is a one of a kind and we feel privileged to be the first family that calls it home in its 350+ year life and its current custodians.
Quiet, location, location, location
Had a lovely stay in the Limonaia a couple of weeks ago with my daughter who was just finishing her semester abroad. A perfect base from which to explore the city, and an oasis of calm to return to at the end of the day. The apartment is beautifully furnished, but for me it was the setting at one end of the lovely garden that set it apart. We woke in the morning to birdsong, and roses were in bloom. Bruce is an extremely helpful host, and he lives right next door if you have any questions. I highly recommend this charming apartment. Only caveat is that like many European apartments, space is used creatively and the bed is in a loft, so not probably suitable for someone who is uncomfortable managing stairs in the night, etc. But for us, it was heaven...
My wife and I had a week in the Limonaia and we could not have made a better choice! So close to the Academia, Duomo, Market, and many other places. While standing on Via Gino Capponi who would think such a unique residence was behind the massive green door leading to the interior gate and several-acre garden? Very safe and historic neighborhood. Wonderful Saturday market in the square 1 block south with assortment of ceramics, produce, cheeses, baked goods and more. Owner (Bruce) was very helpful/receptive/friendly before/during/after our stay. He provides a personal printed guide (approx 20-25 pages) with every possible need anticipated. His recommendation of Academia Restaurant was spot-on but we have one to add that was NOT on his list - Aquacotta - just a few blocks away (try the sea bass or the lamb - reservation recommended). The unit was clean, well-furnished and its library is well-stocked with a dozen or more recent travel guides so you can likely leave yours at home. We heard music one night and stepped outside to see a fireworks show originating in a property just behind the house, set to a beautiful opera! How lucky can one get? If you go before Jan 2016 and want a different artistic experience - check out the Bellezza Divina exhibit at the Palazzo Strozzi (Van Gogh, Chagall, Munch, Millet, and more). Florence is fabulous; the Limonaia made our stay special - I highly recommend both!
Wonderful place for a couple near the centre of Florence. Very friendly and helpful host (thanks Bruce!). Unique and memorable small apartment, equipped with everything you need and more to visit the area. Comfortable and very quiet, close to all amenities. Would definitely recommend!
Fantastic quiet private park, and an special, comfortable apartment with everything one needs. On top of that, a host who is always there when you need him, and otherwise completely leaves you alone. We had a great week there, also got some excellent recommendations, and would come back anytime.
What an amazing apartment and amazing experience in Florence!
This apartment is a historical building set in the middle of a gorgeous courtyard. It feels like you are in your own private oasis. The apartment itself is large and very comfortable. In 2 weeks in Europe, it is the only place that we chose to go home early so we could just sit and relax there. The bedding is very comfortable. The shower has unlimited hot water. They have every little thing you could need in the apartment!
Also, it is important to note that we never once took a cab or any public transportation once we were there, we could way (within about 20 minutes at the farthest) everywhere we wanted to go. Extra bonus is that the duomo is about 5 minutes walking and visible from the building!
The "customer" service:
I put customer in quotation marks because that is not how we felt with the fernie family. We truly felt like special guests or even family. From the moment we got there it was the most inviting experience abroad you can imagine.
The first day we arrived it was our anniversary. They stocked the bar with a bottle of proseco then after asking what we would like to do for our big night, they made reservations in a window seat at the golden open bar restaurant on the river for us.
Any time we needed anything (including an extra electric converter/adapter) we simply knocked on their door and they helped us.
They made wonderful recommendations for food and activities for our stay and also provided maps and important information,
While it was VERY apparent we could knock on their door and ask for anything, they were not overwhelming. My husband was weary at first because he thought that this would be similar to a bed and breakfast where you are obligated to check in/out daily with the hosts. This was absolutely not the case, in fact we went almost 2 days without even seeing them.
We this apartment and family so much. We are certain that if we ever get to make it back to Florence, we will be staying here! Book now if you are heading that way!
Wonderfull and perfekt retreat to load up your batteries. The poperty, in a peacefull, and very quiete park - even nicer than the photos can tell, is just some hundered meters away from the duomo and all the famous spots one would like to see while in Firenze. Simply great. we loved it.
A 50 Euro cleaning fee per rental/week will be addd.
