An Historic Glen Lake Property – This 4 bedroom, 4 bath home, and one bedroom beach house sits on the north shore of Little Glen, conveniently located to Glen Arbor and the Sleeping Bear Dunes, and allowing easy access to all of Leelanau County’s treasures. With 258 feet of sandy frontage, great lawns, porches and patios, a tennis court and basketball hoop, lakeside sauna and dock, this home offers a complete Glen Lake vacation experience.
The home sits on an historic piece of property that takes you back to the era of DH Day Estates and the times when wealthy mid-western families journeyed north each summer for the fresh air and crystal-clear water of Glen Lake. Entering through the original split fieldstone gate, the carriage house and circle drive welcome you to this stately lakefront “cottage.” Centuries old oaks and maples, which were spared the lumberman’s axe, tower over the property. This home has all the modern conveniences and its open floor plan is great for families and friends to gather with ample seating and dining space.
You enter the home on the main floor, which houses the kitchen, dining room, a spacious living room with a massive stone fireplace, parlor w/ wet bar and the master suite. The master suite has a king bed and sitting area with access to its own deck as well as a private bathroom outfitted with a jetted tub and separate shower. The kitchen has both an island and 4-seat bar area as well as Viking range, great for preparing big family meals. Off the front of the house is a large sunny deck.
The lower level, which walks out onto the patio, has a second kitchen and family room along with a suite with two twin beds and private bathroom. Also on this level is an accordion-walled bedroom with a queen bed and another bedroom with 2 twin beds and a wash basin. There is also a full shared bathroom.
One of the cleverest features on the property is the lakeside beach house. This one-room “cabin” is literally built on the water's edge. The cabin has a trundle bed and sitting area on one end and kitchenette and bathroom with shower on the other. Outside the sliding glass door is a second patio area prefect for taking lunch by the lake.
Available for the first time this year is the upstairs apartment in the carriage house. It is furnished with a king bed in the bedroom, a full living room with kitchenette and bathroom with a shower. This is available for an additional $1000 per week and will allow occupancy up to 12 with the apartment. See the photo tour for additional pictures.
From the platform on the end of the dock you’re able to survey the entire lake, from the Dune Climb to your west to the Narrows bridge on the eastern end. The lake itself is clear and clean and great for every kind of water sports activity, from waterskiing and sailing to fishing and canoeing. The frontage is pure sand and only gradually gets deep so it’s great for the kids.
Having been available for rent the past four summers, many families have now made lifetime memories at this special home on Glen Lake. We invite you to come make some of your own!

The home is large and beautiful. The location is perfect and couldnt get any better. However, this is an older home and could use some TLC. Half of the lights did not work (were missing light bulbs or just didnt turn on). The windows do not open (missing actual handles). There was no exhaust fan on the stove. The furnace was not working in the lower level (it was very cold). There is well water (which should have been disclosed and would have been helpful to know up front - we made several trips to the store to buy bottled water). The house was "surface" clean, however the amount of dust and buildup was unbelievable. The vents were covered in dust and under the couches there was probably an inch of dust and dirt build up. After the first night, both me and my 9 month old got sick and were congested from all the dust. A nice deep cleaning of the home could remedy this. Also, there were several spider webs, dead flies, and other "gross" things by all the windows. This did not help with having young children who crawl on the floor. Also, if you have small children - bring 2 baby gates - will help block off the stairs!
Just some feedback worth sharing. Maybe when the kids get older we would consider staying here again. You cant beat the location and views. So if you can handle the dust and "dated" nature of the home - this is a great house.
A few things that could make this a 5...updated linens on all the beds, clean floors and windows, updated check in sheet (it was so dirty and grubby). Again, just a little TLC would go a long way! For $550 a night I would expect some nicer/cleaner things.
This Glen Lake home is fantastic. There is plenty of space with nicely kept lawns and a tennis court in the rear. Perfectly located close to Glen Arbor, yet spacious enough for the kids to camp in the yard if they wish. It looks west on to the Sleeping Bear Dune climb with sunsets just behind that. Glen Lake and the surrounding area was named Most Beautiful Place in America by ABC's Good Morning America, which is not hyperbole. All fantastic. However..... Glen Lake has swimmers itch. For a family that loves to swim and sail and water ski, this was brutal. You can buy some protective lotion, but it is tough to tell a kid to lotion up every time they want to step in the water.
If you want to relax and enjoy northwestern Michigan, this place is the promised land. If you want to enjoy the lake, you may want to find a place on Lake Michigan (no swimmers itch).
Great family vacation spot for all ages!! Beautiful home with multiple spots for the kids to hang out. Great sandy walk out!!! I would recommend this to everyone!! So close to town and the sand dunes, so much to do!!
The property was beautiful...lake access, tennis court, views. Home was cozy with nice furnishings.
The area needing improvement would be bedding. The beds on lower level were not very inviting. The
comforter, quilts, & sheets need to be updated. Another area to note would be adding a few more kitchen neccessities. For example, we made pancake batter and could not find a griddle to cook them on. We improvised by making them on a cookie sheet. Yet, overall we were very happy with our stay and loved exploring the area!
We were so excited upon our arrival at this property for our one week stay in July 2011, as it was more beautiful than the website pictures reflected. The home is beautiful and well-maintained. It was exceptionally clean and the beds were all very comfortable. The property is one of the nicest we have stayed at and the tennis court was a real bonus! The lake is very shallow with a sandy bottom, which was great for the kids. When we wanted to pull the kids on the tube in the boat and not worry about the lake depth, we simply drove the boat under the bridge into Big Glen Lake. We were alerted upon our arrival that the dryer was not working and soon discovered a few electrical outlets that were not functioning, but the property management company had these problems fixed immediately. We hope that the home will be available for rent next summer so we can return again and stay longer!
No photo's can match the beauty this property possesses and share in whole with it's occupants. I can hardly wait for our family's schedule to permit us to stay here again...
