About Kris Hebert
My husband and I love the water. I often kayak from the front of the house around the island. We currently live in Tallahassee, Florida and have a dog that travels with us. The picture above is a deep sea fishing trip last year.
Why Kris Hebert chose Wakulla County
After looking for years, we found this little cottage sitting in the trees. We immediately feel in love and have been down here for 10 years. The neighbors are wonderful and some live here year around.
What makes this House unique
Our property is ocean front. You can launch a boat off our beach at high tides. In the mornings you will see the sunrise over the lighthouse while the dolphins play in the front. You can sit on the deck and watch the unlimited number of birds hunt. You can also walk along the beach at low tide to collect shells and dinner. Fish right out front for redfish, cobia and mullet. Overall, a wonderful beach experience!

Tranquil beauty and simplicity. If you need to relax...this place is for you.
The sun rises over ancient St Marks. The breeze in the palms is the only sound. For excitement, a dolphin chasing mullet in the shallows. We are so relaxed we won’t need The Inkwell for a while, but when we do we will definitely return. Great place!
Thank you for writing a great review! Yes, it is a very relaxing and tranquil place.
So glad you enjoyed your stay! We look forward to seeing you again!
A wonderful, quiet hideaway
Depending on what you're looking for, this property is a wonderful, quiet getaway. With only 1 neighbour (who are lovely and quiet) and set just feet from the water, this a lovely spot for quiet reading, nearby hiking and beautiful sunrises. It is generally well equipped for dinners although the small kitchen may not be good for a large meal prep. Some definite pluses are the amazing views from the entire main living area, and the large shower and heat lamps in the bathrooms! The king bed is also very comfortable.
There are some things to note (not cons per se, but depending on what you're looking for this may or may not be the place for you). There is not a sandy beach for sunset walks or ocean waves to relax by. (sunrise views from the deck but a walk down to the marshy area is needed for sunset views (short stroll). It is a marshy grass area when the tide is up and wet muck when the tide is out so bring rubber boots (not great for kids or dogs depending on your muck love level). The bedroom doesn't have drawer storage to unpack for small items like socks/underwear etc, but ample shelving. The bathroom could use some shelves over the toilet or something as there is no place for all the small bathroom items most women carry and very little counter space. There are no movies/dvd player, games or books (we did leave 2 books to start a collection LOL). I would watch small dogs on the deck as the bars are far apart and if you have a curious, hunt for birds type pooch they could get through and fall. The outdoor grill is a green egg, not a normal charcoal grill so allow for a lot of heat up time for proper cooking, takes quite a bit longer than a normal grill.......instructions left for renter would be nice as we had to google how to use the green egg.
I would say the one thing I didn't like was no curtains in the bathrooms/bedroom which face the neighbours decking and driveway, would be nice to have even the stick on window film for eg. The bedroom curtains are sheer which doesn't allow for sleeping in with the sunrise coming in and the bedroom window faces the shared driveway with the neighbour so a little weird for privacy.
Overall, a lovely quiet place and would recommend!
Thank you for the review! Glad you enjoyed your stay!
The area is part of The St Mark’s Wildlife Refuge and is a native nursery habitat.
Walking the marshy water chasing blue crabs, hermit crabs and mullet net fishing is very entertaining, water shoes are recommended.
The bird watching is phenomenal.
Usually you will see dolphins swimming by feeding on the mullet and blue crabs.
Our neighbors have just moved in so we’ll look into adjusting our window treatments, the home is on pilings and high off the ground as are the windows. We love the open, airiness of the bedroom, up in the trees. The decorative shutters close the bedroom and living space on the neighbors’ side. The bathroom windows are all high and let in the daylight.
Yes, the kitchen is small. There’s some history here, the original owners only used the house for vacations and preferred cooking on the grill or eating out at the local seafood restaurants. Though small, it has top of the line appliances and a dishwasher! We’ve used the dining room table for extra prep space.
The green egg is wonderful to use, you can relax on the deck overlooking the Gulf of Mexico while cooking and enjoying the sunrise and sunsets.
We’ve added a small dresser in the spacious master bedroom closet for unpacking, as the other ample bedroom shelving is not closed in.
The bathroom has been left as it was built, towel racks take up most of the available shelving space, there is ample room under the sink for toiletries, etc.
Thanks for the extra tips! It’s always nice to get others opinions and ideas on decorating!
Loved the serenity of this setting!
The setting of this rental is even more beautiful than the listing portrays. My husband and I really enjoyed the few days we spent here. Unfortunately the weather was too chilly to sit on the screened porch much or open the house up, but we could imagine how great that would be. We loved the sunrises and sunsets over the water and watching the tides rise and fall. The house is well-equipped for a couple, although we did miss wifi, I'm sorry to say. Guess we're too dependent upon our devices, and need a higher data plan. We really enjoyed being able to travel 30 minutes or so sightseeing, then return to the serenity of this spot. Thank you for sharing "The Inkwell" with us!
So glad you enjoyed your stay! Yes the sunrises and sunsets are both visible this time of year!
Hopefully a WiFi and satellite internet will get better with time, or a provider company will eventually install a cable. We’re just one of those remote areas where our choices are still so limited and inefficient. So, relax and enjoy being unplugged!
A very special trip in an amazing old florida setting
My dad, two boys and I had a great time here... Loved the spot on the water with the amazing sunrise views in the morning. The boys enjoyed the water, explored the area around the property and we were able to find allot of interesting nearby places in the area to enjoy the abundant wildlife... Even got in some fishing time... It really was a great getaway and the house had a rustic feel and allot of space. Really enjoyed the screen room, secluded feel of the oaks, pines, palms and grilling on the back balcony... We will surely will plan to return and Kris the property manager was very helpful and went out of her way to make our trip work out great!
So glad you enjoyed your stay and experienced our piece of
“The Forgotten Coast”! Hope to see you again in the future!
Wonderful and relaxing getaway
The property is very nice and secluded . Great and beautiful water front views. The house itself was rustic and comfortable. Everything was neat and clean. The king bed was extremely comfortable. The house is a drive from conviences and local beaches with most things being 15-20 minutes away . Unable to access water from house as there was no dock and lots of mud but I'm sure people who kyack or canoe could do so if they wanted. Great choice for couple who want to sit back relax and watch nature and the beautiful sunsets.
Stop the world i want to get off.....Here.
Great place to get away. Pack lite, you don't need alot. Great kitchen, plenty of cookware, plates and utensils. Green Egg grill doesn't need much charcoal and hard to overcook on. Direct TV with movie channels. Screened outside porch with fan is good for breakfast looking at wildlife and dolphins. Have a kayak, bring it. Keep under shelter, short drag to open water. Close to St. Marks, outzs 2 oyster bar with lots of Harleys ridden by friendly people and other stores close by. Fun place.
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed our little piece of paradise!
Hope you'll visit again!
