About Kris Hebert

My husband and I love the water. I often kayak from the front of the house around the island. We currently live in Tallahassee, Florida and have a dog that travels with us. The picture above is a deep sea fishing trip last year.

Why Kris Hebert chose Florida Panhandle

After looking for years, we found this little cottage sitting in the trees. We immediately feel in love and have been down here for 10 years. The neighbors are wonderful and some live here year around.

What makes this house unique

Our property is ocean front. You can launch a boat off our beach at high tides. In the mornings you will see the sunrise over the lighthouse while the dolphins play in the front. You can sit on the deck and watch the unlimited number of birds hunt. You can also walk along the beach at low tide to collect shells and dinner. Fish right out front for redfish, cobia and mullet. Overall, a wonderful beach experience!

Guestbook comments from the owner

I wanted to let you know that we did have a wonderful visit and this was

>absolutely PERFECT!!! The home had everything we needed and prepared two

>meals for my son and his family so they could enjoy the cottage too. The

>bed was comfortable, the home was spotlessly clean and we spent every

>morning on the screened in porch enjoying the sunrise with a cup of coffee

>in hand. Thank you so much for helping us put this together.

>

>If I had any suggestions it would be they need a toaster and should leave

>instructions on what you want renters to do upon leaving. For example,

>wasn't sure if we should wash sheets and towels and didn't know what to do

>with garbage. Hopefully the cleaning fee covered these.

>

>LOVED IT!!!

Unique, charming , rustic, fantastic view, private

  • 4 of 5

Could not have been happier with our choice. Exceeded our expectations. Owner was very accessible and very helpful. This is a quirky Old Florida cottage and not to be confused with the destination area such as Destin. This is for the nature lover and be sure to bring your camera. Recommended

Relaxing, quiet, nature-filled retreat

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I stayed at The Inkwell for four days. We really enjoyed our time together there.

Pros: quiet location, amazing ocean view from two directions, dolphins viewed several times from the house, surrounded by trees and birds, nice washer/dryer, comfy bed, big bedroom, equipped kitchen, nice tv's, fun decor, great place to relax

Possible Cons: be aware that this is a remote location (drive 30 minutes for food), numerous bugs (and crabs) prevented us from spending much time outside the screened porch or venturing down into the water near the house, no docks, only sheer curtains in the bedroom mean that ocean sunrises may wake you up early, carpet and bathrooms could use updating... None of these were a big deal for us, and we had a wonderful time there.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the honest review! Glad you enjoyed your stay. So wish we could do something about the bugs, a breeze helps. The fiddler crabs are part of the nature and don't hurt you, just annoying that sometimes we have to walk through them and step on some. I always say "It's awesome to see the ground moving!" By the way, they are great fishing bait! Yes, we are very remote and quiet!

Looks great from pictures. Not what we were expecting.

  • 3 of 5

Would have been better if not so many bugs & would have a pier to walk out on like the other houses around there have. To far away from EVERYTHING ! Would suggest to older couples not something I would take kids to. Thanks for letting us stay.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the honest review. Yes, we have knats and mosquitoes when the wind dies down. So we have a screened in porch. We are very remote, great way to get away and unwind. If you're looking for nightlife and activities you pay for, they are not here. Nature lovers paradise.

Fun stay with panoramic ocean view

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed the house, its size to its location. Right on the water, the house and its layout were great. We enjoyed exploring the area: Wakulla Springs, Apalachicola, and St. George, but it was always great to come home and view the ocean and birds from the screened porch and living room.

Relaxing Home with Beautiful Views!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing stay at the Inkwell. Waking up to the most beautiful sunrises seen from the comfy bed was priceless! There are wonderful views throughout this welcoming, well equipped home.

We had a great time visiting St. George Island, Wakulla Springs as well as, area beaches. We also enjoyed dining at Hamaknockers BBQ.

We highly recommend your exceptional home and hope to visit again soon.

Beautiful, peaceful location

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were headed to southwest Florida when we learned the red tide was really bad at our planned destination. It was also uncertain at that point where Hurricane Matthew was going to land. So we made a last minute change in plans and booked this location. We are so happy we did! It is an awesome location. Daily, we saw dolphins rounding up the mullet for dinner, a shark once, a puffer fish, a bald eagle and countless osprey, herons, egrets, shore birds and gull-like birds from this home. The home is nestled among the live oaks, palms, pines and laurels right on a narrow tidal marsh. My husband launched his kayak daily (just a 20 step walk thru the marsh grass) to go fishing in the flats. It gets afternoon shade and a beautiful gulf breeze. The view is beautiful. The home had everything we needed with a fully stocked kitchen, two flat screen televisions and a super comfortable bed. Our hosts were awesomely accommodating and easy to reach. Thanks so much to Kris and her team for pulling it together for us on such short notice! The fresh flowers, inside and out, were a great touch! We have rented lots of homes through VRBO and is the first home to ever have room to put away our things! The empty cabinet/pantry space in the kitchen was so appreciated! In the bedroom, there were empty shelves to store our clothes, towels, etc. This is a great location to venture out to discover the area. We visited Wakulla Springs, where we saw alligators, manatees and lots of birds. We took a boat up the St Mark's River, where we saw lots of birds, including king fishers and bald eagles, and an alligator. We rode down Bottom's Road, where we saw Wood Storks and Roseate Spoonbills (and bald eagles). Bald Point State Park has a beautiful white sand beach! Mineral Springs Seafood is a great place to purchase fresh seafood. The folks in there are super nice! If you go there, get some of the stuffed scallop bacon wrapped dip - yum. Hutton's Seafood (food truck) has really good shrimp dip. Mad Anthony's is a great place to eat out. I would recommend this spot if you are looking for a comfortable home with privacy and peace and quiet with lots of places to go explore. Thanks again to Kris and her team!!!
