You will feel as though you have stepped back in time as soon as you turn down Broadkill Road, drive through Prime Hook Wildlife refuge and turn onto South Bayshore Drive. This quiet, dog-friendly beach offers all the charms of years past and the escape from the crowds of Rehoboth and Dewey. Relax with a glass of wine and a campfire on the beach. Bring your kayaks out to float with the dolphins as they swim up the bay or drop in over at Prime Hook Wildlife Refuge. Dogfish Head Brewery is located in the adjacent town of Milton, and is a very short drive away - bring your growler!
This charming beach cottage and amazing beachfront property overlooks the Delaware Bay with a view toward Lewes, Cape May and the Atlantic Ocean. Amenities include a new spacious North-Carolina style screened in porch overlooking the ocean, new decks, immediate private beach access, and if you want to stay somewhat connected to the outside world- cable and wireless internet. Two large bedrooms are available with queen size beds and two bathrooms will accommodate 4 people. The kitchen is fully equipped.
Broadkill Beach is about 15-20 minutes from historic Lewes, DE and Rehoboth Beach. On the road in to Broadkill Beach from Route 1, you will see The Rookery Golf Course and Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge. Prime Hook offers trails and a nature center as well as marsh and creeks to kayak and canoe. The historic town of Milton is just a few minutes away with a farmers market on Fridays, restaurants, antique stores and…Dogfish Head Craft Brewery! Pick up a special brew not available to retail stores to enjoy on the beach later that evening, or visit Beach Time Distilling in Lewes to pick up their excellent gin, vodka or rum.
We offer a starter supply of paper towels, toilet tissue, trash bags and dish /laundry detergent. Linens (sheets/towels and washcloths/pet bedding) are not included.
We 'discovered' Broadkill Beach while looking for property in Rehoboth and have never looked back! We love sitting on our beachfront porch and deck, drinking our coffee in the morning. The campfires and cooking our dinner on the beach in the evening offer a chance for great dining and relaxing. This is one of the few dog friendly beaches that we found, which was key to purchasing our home. No place like it that we have found on the East Coast!
My wife generally considers taking the occasional beach vacation as one of the compromises of our marriage. After the first day at this place, however, she said that she would like to come here every year. I shouldn't have been surprised because we both felt completely relaxed the whole time we were there. So relaxed, in fact, that all our ambitious touristy sight-seeing plans went right out the screen door. I mean, we visited the Prime Hook Nature Reserve because we love that place and it was right down the road. And we went to the grocery store because we needed food. The rest of the time, we walked on the beach, flipping horseshoe crabs right-side-up as we went, we swam, and we sat on the porch and watched the osprey hunt over the ocean each evening. We also read on the porch. We sat on the porch until the stars came out every night. The cottage is exactly the right combination of cozy and cheery, but the porch, as you might have guessed, is the star of the show. Even with the 90-degree heat dome sitting over us for most of the week, we couldn't resist sitting out on that porch. Kathy checked in with us via e-mail to make sure we had everything we needed (We did.) and could not have been more helpful with lists of places to go and things to do. It's clear that Kathy and Phil have put a lot of love into fixing up a ramshackle (circa 1970s?) beach shack into a lovely place to laze away the days. We had fun nosing through the rather sizable (for a beach house) library and games. The dog almost won a game of Cards Against Humanity. Who knew she was so clever? We definitely hope to come back again!
We are repeat guests at this perfect house on the best stretch of Broadkill Beach. The hosts are wonderful and accommodating, and the house is beautiful and beachfront. We spend most of our time, when not on the beach, on the awesome screened in porch. There are wonderful decks as well, and the bedrooms are spacious. Our kids and dog have plenty of room to spread out, and the house has everything one could need for your stay. It's our favorite!!
We have rented this cottage for the last two years for a week (and then two) in August. The cottage has everything you could possibly need and it is in a convenient location. It is comfortable and well-appointed, the local residents are ALWAYS welcoming, and the neighborhood is peaceful, yet all of the fun and attraction of a "beach town" is just a short drive away! We hosted several friends who came and went during the week and we all favored the porch as the place to enjoy coffee and cocktails. The hosts left us fully prepared for a week of relaxation and were available when we needed them(which wasn't much). As an added bonus, Kathy and Phil, the owners, are two of the nicest people I've ever dealt with. Two thumbs up from me and 4 paws up from Lucy and Charlie, our dogs! We plan to return and have already booked next summer and my only hesitation in writing a glowing review is that it will drive up demand for this great house on a quiet street, close to everything!
We just got back from an awesome vacation at this property. The property owners have put a lot of care and love into this home. They were so accommodating with all the arrangements. The house is perfectly located on a beautiful beach. We practically had the whole beach to ourselves all week. The water was warm and the waves were mild, perfect for young kids. The big plus was we could bring our family dog with us on our trip. She loved the beach. It was a very relaxing and peaceful vacation, just what we needed. It will be one to remember. Thanks Brietas Beachshack for the memories. Hope to be back.
Primehook National Wildlife Refuge borders Broadkill Beach. Primehook offers great hiking trails, canoeing and kayaking, and fanastic bird watching.
