Our stay in Brooklyn

Local manager and his assistant were very welcoming and helpful. the apartment was satisfactory - arrangement of furniture, kitchen and bathroom. Unit provided a real Brooklyn brownstone experience. Though enjoyable in most aspects we are an elderly couple in fair shape. This apartment would difficult for older persons who are challenged with climbing so many stairs. We appreciated the safety bars in the bath/shower.

The apartment wasn't very clean and only had one set of towels. Only a light blanket on each bed and no extras available. It was conveniently located though and was only a few blocks from the subway. The neighborhood felt safe during the day but was suspect in the night hours. It was quiet though and we didn't have any issues.

Could have been good, but...............................

Negative aspects:

WiFi is too weak to be used properly.

Couch in the tiny antichambre to the bathroom is delapidated and should be replaced, perhaps by a foldaway bed.

Ventilator switch in bathroom doesn't hold position to run.

Several minor impairements in the apartment e.g. door lock is not tight, a couple of holes in bathroom tiles, dirty windows.

No decent sitting place to relax or watch TV ect. (I'd take out 1 double bed and replace it with a sleep sofa). Wardrobe is only suitable to hang your clothes, no shelves.

Big issue: airconditioner doesn't work properly. It is loud and its regulation doesn't function. It either runs no end or cuts off and blinks without restarting. You have to switch it on/off by hand. Also, the owner requires you to switch it off when you are away - means you come home to an oven during the hot season.

If you are travelling by car, parking could certainly be a problem in Hancock St.

Positive aspects:

The studio generally was clean, as were the beds and the bathroom. The beds were comfy. Apart from the ventilator, the bathroom functions were ok

There were some shady characters around subway Fulton/Nostrand, but the neighborhood generally was fine and Hancock St. is nice

Despite the shortcomings listed above I still liked the apartment and would have given it 3, perhaps even 4 out of 5 points, if it hadn't been for the desastrous (non)reception by the owner.

I called his number about 5 PM from Penn Station and spoke on his voice box that we would arrive about 7 PM. After we had arrived at the building we waited and waited....... If it hadn't been for a helpful lady living in the building, we might still be waiting. She tried to call the owner again, to no avail. Then she went into the house and contacted John's mother who also lives there. After another wait his mother came outside and told us that she couldn't reach her son and that she would let us into the apartment. She was obviously quite irate about the whole situation and gave as a short, rather curt introduction to the gas stove, the towels and a few other points. Another 2 hours later the young grandson knocked on our door and gave us 1 set of keys from his grandmother. At that time it was too late to go out for a meal or buy a few things. The owner never showed up. We were never given a second set of keys, nor an adequate introduction to the features of the apartment, nor any explanation/apology for the no show of the owner.

Not so relaxing

It was missing certain things like a washing machine backyard tooo dark inside not enough light but overall peaceful and beautiful

Owner's Response: This is a beautiful fully furnished, well lit large studio apartment. There is plenty of lighting throughout the apartment. It does not have a washing machine, but there is a nearby laundromat (less than a 5 minute walk away from the apartment.) This apartment is in the front of the building, therefore it does not have access to the backyard. But it does have a well lit front yard where you can relax and enjoy the night or morning air. Our goal and mission is to make sure that our guest have a wonderful and enjoyable experience when they come to New York. We are very open and accommodating. Any feedback that helps us make your stay the best experience it can be, is always welcome and appreciated. Thank you John

The apartment in the photo was not the one we were given. Upon arrival we were told there was a mix up with another family. We were then told we would be moved into the apartment in the photo the next morning. This never happened. We were there for 5 days. On the third day John called and we were told that we could look at the other apartment and move if we wanted. It was never shown to us and we were not given the opportunity to change to the apartment in the photo.

The location was fine and quite. It was on third floor and the caretaker nicely helped us with our luggage.

The air conditioner thermostat did not work properly. The apartment was dated and not very clean. I would never stay here again or recommend to anyone.

Owner's Response: We do have more than one apartment available at this location. We did have two different guest arrive close to the same time and there was a mix-up with the check in with the two guests. We apologize for the mix-up. We have put a system in place to make sure that it doesn't happen again. But, please note that all of our apartments are very nice and well maintained. All of our air conditions are working great and keeps the apartments nice and cool. The apartment that this guest was mistakenly given, just like the apartment that she was suppose to stay in, gets great reviews. But we understand that you want what you paid for. I did make an attempt to make the correction, but did not get any answer when I went to the apartment and did not receive a return call. Our goal and mission is to make sure that our guest are more then happy with choosing us as their host and make sure that you have a wonderful experience while you're here. Again we apologize for the mix-up and please feel free to contact me whenever you come back to New York. We'll make sure that you have a wonderful stay at a great price. Thank you for your feedback. Nice, comfy apartment

The 2 of us stayed 9 nights. Kitchen had everything we needed. Coffee shops, convenience stores/delis & restaurants close by. Nice neighborhood feel to the area. The bed & bedding were great-the sheets were really soft.
