About Roger Vivas

I am a Venezuelan adopted by Columbus, which I proudly call my second hometown.

I have traveled the world extensively and my best experiences always came from small places owned and managed by people who really cared; not only about their business and their guests but also their community. With Vivas Guesthouse, I have the opportunity to make a difference to those who visit this great city and to the German Village neighborhood.

I am apart of this community; an ambassador who is eager to share my knowledge with others so they can understand why Columbus is so great! I can suggest what to see, where to eat or even cook for you myself. I am here to ensure your stay is wonderful.

I have dedicated my career to hospitality; worked for years in hotels and restaurants and wanted to get away from the cookie cutter. A destination like Vivas Guesthouse will save you from having to feel like a stranger occupying one of the hundreds of identical rooms. Vivas Guesthouse is a boutique destination that feels like home. You can use one of the many bikes to explore the neighborhood, stay in the master suite that I built with my own hands, and even cook a meal in the fully equipped kitchen. Or even better, have me cook that meal for you. I hope you enjoy your stay.

Warmest Regards,

Roger Vivas

Great location, house functioned well, but a LOT of TLC is needed.

  • 3 of 5

There are many things not cared for on the house. The front door does not shut without locking the deadbolt, rafters are exposed, upstairs air conditioners are run on extension cords, the small yard was overgrown with weeds and had received little if any care. The upstairs living area has no furniture and no air conditioner. Very lacking in silverware. No washcloths, no towels in the kitchen. Upon arrival, one bedroom was not made up and we had to call to get it done. The ceiling light did not work - had to call to get that taken care of. For the price, these sorts of things SHOULD NOT happen.

Great place, poorly managed.

  • 2 of 5

We came as a group going to the Arnold festival driving 15 hours from Maine. When we arrived here, we were a little shocked that nothing had been cleaned - beds with dirty sheets and unmade, trash throughout the house, messy kitchen, and full bins of trash, etc.

I contacted Roger right away who sent over two very nice ladies to clean the house, and promised us we would be compensated for the inconvenience. We appreciated his promptness. Our stay following this was great and the place accommodated us well.

Unfortunetly, following the stay, Roger never compensated us despite numerous emails from us asking him to follow through on his promise. He ignored all of our emails. Additionally, one of our guests left his keys at the home on accident. We contacted Roger four times to have them mailed back to us. He did not answer our emails, nor return the keys. Roger has not emailed us back or contacted us in 2 months. We continue to reach out to him with not avail.

We loved the place, and it suited us well, but the whole situation left a bad taste in our mouth. Unfortunately, we would not stay here again nor recommend it to anyone due to poor management and carelessness of the owner.

Place is great . Second time staying there . Super bars and food a block away.

  • 4 of 5

Overall the place is very nice ,sleeps a lot of people ,3 floors .On the third floor there is a loft that I could live in .

Thurman's is around the corner and the Red Brick is two blocks away. Both restaurants have great food check them out on- line. Easy access to everything , uber works .

The area is really starting to flourish with new homes and renos.

Nice place!

  • 4 of 5

Overall this was a nice place. The stairs to the upstairs bedroom are very steep, but manageable. Easy parking and close to a cute neighborhood with lots of restaurant options.

Lovely location - house could use some attention

  • 2 of 5

The Becky U review is accurate. Because most of the reviews were 5 stars, we discounted that one.

The Good: The owner is very responsive and responded quickly to issues. The location is GREAT. Lots of great stuff within walking distance including a few good restaurants and a grocery store. The AC worked well, and kept the attic room at a good temperature. Towels were provided so that has changed since the last mediocre review. We fit 8 in the house but two of the beds are doubles so couples used to king size beds are in trouble. The other two beds are queens (I think).

The not-great: Washer and dryer are in the basement, down a narrow staircase and unfinished - we didn't need it so didn't use it. The stairs to the attic are steep and narrow - watch your head. The overall condition of the house is OK, but not great. We would have liked more lights, better window coverings and more up-to-date bathrooms.

Overall we had a good stay - but we would not stay there again until some renovations are done.
