We are so grateful for our wonderful, outstanding guests who we have had the privilege of sharing our homes with! THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts!!! Dave and Erin
The cottage truly is one of the best places on the lake! We are on the east side where the day is longer and the sunsets are extraordinary. The boathouse is one-of-a-kind with a deck OVER the water so you can really enjoy the lake. Take 10 steps down to the lake out the front door and you're at the water's edge. Enjoy cooking pancakes on the boathouse deck with the electric skillet with your morning coffee.
The cottage is on a paved, private lane so you can enjoy an early morning or late evening walk after a day on the water. Everything is convenient - from driving to the Village and parking to just being on the water.
"Just what the doctor ordered. Relaxing, beautiful and fun. Great neighbors - what a wealth of info...would like to come back to this lake-so clean. Time to get back to reality."
First time staying at this cute and cozy cottage. We loved it!! The lake is literally 10 steps away and the deck over the boathouse is fantastic! We were able to bring our dog who loves learning to swim and we enjoyed taking the kayaks across the lake. It was a relaxing and wonderful week at Skaneateles Lake!! Thank you!
Tips for future guests:
There is no dishwasher-we wished we had brought paper plates, cups, utensils, etc
There are a lot of spiders
The temperature fluctuates greatly-we used the AC and the fireplace during the week we were there
Was not sure what to expect.... not into " ruffing it"...as my husband is... Erin reassured me I would be OK... It couldn't have been better. Clean ( real important to me).. Very well stocked - even down to the laundry detergent for the washing machine.. Everything I needed... The beautiful lake only a few steps away. Some of the most gorgeous sunsets ever. A truly incredible time.
My husband and I, both in dire need of a break, stayed in this sweet little house for a week in September. It was nicely equipped with all kitchen ware, a great set of Syracuse dishes (love that old restaurant-ware), a comfortable queen bed, beautiful dining table and chairs, and magnificent views. The over-water deck was absolutely wonderful with its picnic tables, glider (loved), and Adirondack chairs. The area was very quiet, and light pollution was so low that the stars were absoutely brilliant at night. Our only caveats were ineffective air conditioning (and we had several very hot days) and the fact that we had to clean the place ourselves prior to leaving. We're at an age where it would be nice not to have to! We met our hosts, Erin and David, and they were lovely people. We do recommend this property. We also enjoyed a cruise on the lake on the Judge Ben Wiles. We had an anniversary lunch while moving across the smooth-as-butter lake. Food on the boat is excellent! The village is enchanting with many unique shops as well.
Not only are the sunsets spectacular, but the night sky filled with brilliant stars and the moon beam floating across the water all make the deck the only place to be on warm summer nights! The cottage is small but cozy and inviting, and with the deck can accommodate large family gatherings comfortably. Both the cottage and the grounds are well-maintained. The owner and property manager are warm and welcoming and willing to do whatever needs to be done to make your stay a memorable one. The kitchen is stocked with all the conveniences of home, meeting the needs of either casual cook or gourmet chef. A washer and dryer assure a supply of clean, dry towels for swimmers and boaters alike. Set back away from traffic, the location is ideal – quiet and serene, yet a short drive into the village. Skaneateles boasts a wide range of unique shops and a variety of restaurants like the Sherwood Inn, Blue Water Grille, and The Krebs. There are also several wineries that welcome visitors to sample some of the finest domestic wines New York State has to offer. After a busy day, returning to the comfort of the cottage and the calming effect of the water was a little slice of heaven. A month-long stay was truly not enough!
It used to be that the lake was lined with these little cottages. It seems there are fewer and fewer of them left these days as they are slowly being knocked down and replaced by much larger houses. You should enjoy this one while you still can!
We had a wonderful time. It was rather hard for us to leave. There are some really nice things about this place. It is RIGHT! on the water, ample, easy parking off the main road (no steep driveway or flights of stairs), full kitchen and bath with modern appliances, nice dock/boat house with super lake access, less than 5 miles from town, pets considered. The owners were also very flexible and nice to work with.
While this house was perfect for my family it may not be for everyone. The house itself was built in the 1950’s and is on the small side by modern standards. The one bedroom is adequate but not large by any means. AC is not really needed due to the breeze from the lake, however if you are expecting modern central air conditioning you will be disappointed. Also the neighbors while they were friendly and unobtrusive during our stay are rather close on one side.
If you are looking for a luxurious, spacious house with a big spread for a large family this is probably not the place for you. However, if you are looking for a quiet, simple, place for a couple or small family to relax and enjoy the lake it would be hard to find a better value in the area.
The cottage is located on the east side of Skaneateles Lake offering some of the most beautiful sunsets anywhere. Skanealetes Lake is also one of the cleanest lakes in the world.
