Elegant Apartments in Villa along the Vatican Walls

Property type villa

Overview

About the property

In the heart of Rome, at a few steps fom St.Peter`s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel there is a charming Liberty style villa built in 1923 and recently restored. The villa ''The Pomegranate'', surrounded by a small garden, is a green oasis in the very busy center of Rome and provides a tranquil retreat to the tourist. From our two terraces, it is possible to enjoy the view of the ancient walls designed by Michelangelo and of the Vatican gardens. Our bed and breakfast offers cozy and comfortable bedrooms, equipped with private bathrooms, TV, WIFI and heating/air conditioning. Breakfast, made of natural and organic home made products, is served either in our elegant, luminous sitting room, decorated with original stucco-works, overlooking the garden, or outside in the terrace. For those who stay one week or longer, we do not serve breakfast, but provide all the food necessary for a self-prepared one.

Please mind that, in order to reach the apartments from the street, there is a staircase of about sixty steps.

City tax, requested by the Roman municipality, of 3,5€ per person per day will be paid in cash on arrival.

About Gabrielle

I am a 34 years old journalist and I write for the English magazine 'Wanted in Rome'. I attended the German School of Rome and later studied Political Science at the University of Rome. I am a very extroverted person and love meeting people from all countries.

Gabrielle purchased this villa in 2000

Why Gabrielle chose Rome

Along with my parents Robert and Micaela, I decided to create a B&B inside our beautiful villa from the 1920s. Our B&B meets different requirements from usual B&B: we give a great importance to a personal approach with our clients, because we want to do our best to make their vacation unforgettable. We also provide them with all the information needed in order to make them feel at home.

What makes this villa unique

The location as well as the elegance and quality of our B&B. All the rooms have stucco-decorated ceilings and elegant Italian pieces of furniture. We provide our clients with precious linens and cotton towels. Our homemade breakfast, served in China and silver ware, consists of biological marmelades with butter and toast, freshly baked pies, yoghurt, juices and an unforgettable Italian coffee.

Quaint place, helpful host, ease in everything

  • 5 of 5

This place was a perfect stay for two people. The room we got was a little studio with a kitchen and bathroom. The patio area was a wonderful place to relax and the two beds were very comfortable. Very clean, functional, and cute. Even better, right by the Vatican (though on the other side of the entrance). If you don't mind walking along ancient walls of a holy city, this place has easy access to historical sites, and is only a few blocks away from the Vatican Museum. Even better, there are great grocery stores and bistros in the area, as well as easy access to a Metro, which will connect you swiftly to other historical and tourist sites in this beautiful city. Recommended for sure.

Great stay - classically Italian

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for 6 nights for our 10-year wedding anniversary. We had a lovely time. It was in a good location along the Vatican wall where we were able to walk to the subway, restaurants and gelato shops with ease. We also made good use of the rooftop terrace. I always felt secure and safe while we were there. The lower apartment where we stayed was quiet and private. We had all the room we needed and all the amenities, kitchenware, appliances, etc. that we needed too. I think one thing to keep in mind when staying is that you are working with real people not a hotel system. The towels, bedding, and furniture all belong to a family so it isn't the same staying in a hotel. So, while there weren't fresh crisp towels every morning it felt more like we were at home. It was an authentically and classically Italian way of living for a time. We enjoyed partaking in the culture. We loved and appreciated our stay. Our host answered all of our questions, gave great advice, and was entirely flexible with us. It was a priceless addition to our stay in a foreign, complex, and beautiful city.

The property was nice. The apartment was clean.

  • 3 of 5

The apartment was nice but I never saw the dining room, Gabrielle had some breakfast items for me and told me that because I was staying 5 nights I did not have access to the breakfast or dining room. I thought I had read 6 or 7 nights. The wi-fi only worked when I sat by the door with the door open or on the patio. There was only one bath towel. Gabrielle was 1 hour late meeting me at the apartment to let me in. Because the apartment was clean and close to to the Vatican, and I left and stayed at a different location one night, I didn't complain.

Beautiful Property -- Good Location for Vatican and Beyond

  • 4 of 5

Thank you Gabrielle for your warm hospitality. Gabrielle speaks excellent English and was very informative and welcoming. This was a nice apartment with a beautiful terrace to enjoy! Apartment was well equipped with everything needed. The stairs to and from the street are not bad -- so don't let this dissuade you. There are about 80 steps in and out of the Cipro Subway stop - so be aware if you're physically challenged and planning on using subway for regular transportation. There is a bus that stops right by apartment. The apartment is easy quick walking distance to Vatican Museum entrance ... just a few blocks. Only improvement I can think of are the pillows -- they are a bit sad .... :-(

Perfect Location - Perfect Host

  • 5 of 5

We could not have been happier with our stay. The location is superb – directly across the street from the Vatican – with the entrance to the Vatican you see him a short two minute walk. A bustling downtown square is a five minute walk. There you will find great restaurants and the Metro station.

Gabrielle was the perfect host from the time we arrived until we left. She arranged transportation from the cruise ship terminal and to the airport as well as booking the taxis we needed to see the sights in Rome. The apartments were clean and well-maintained and breakfast was delicious and ample. We were even provided several bottles of wine and some nice Italian cheeses.

As other reviewers have stated the stairs from the street to the villa can be a challenge for older visitors but no more so than any other part of Rome. After visiting the Coliseum and the Vatican the stairs to our apartment seemed trivial.
