After leaving the airport and catching a cab to the ferry port, you will speed past the busy hubub of Cancun on your way to the natural beauty, island serenity, and slower pace of life of Isla Mujeres. Just a few miles off the coast of Cancun across the turquoise waters of the channel, you will find the perfect spot for a wonderful vacation.
Villa Iguana overlooks the Mexican Caribbean. Your villa has a kitchen, and private porch with a hammock. Step through the archway and onto the sand! Two blocks from restaurants and shopping!
Once you get checked in you will find an island paradise full of opportunity. An Isla Mujeres vacation is more laid-back and relaxed than Cancun, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty to do. At only 4.5 miles long Isla Mujeres is a small island with activities for all ages. You can leisurely explore the island on foot, rent a golf cart or scooter to zip around, or borrow a bicycle. Visit the sea turtle sanctuary or the home of the pirate Mundaca. Talk a local fisherman into taking you deep sea fishing. Take a day at El Garrafon park which offers snorkeling, bicycling, a zip line over the ocean, soaking in an infinity pool, swimming with dolphins, along with an open bar, snacks, and a lunch buffet. Explore a full range of local food options from around the world: traditional tacos near the ballpark, Argentinian steaks, Thai food, fresh-caught seafood, and don’t miss the Mango Cafe’s coconut/almond french toast with fresh-squeezed mango juice. The island is full of opportunities for you to craft your perfect getaway.

We stayed at Villa Iguana 3/2 through 3/6. We had several questions beforehand that were answered promptly that was appreciated. We were a little concerned with some of the reviews regarding the noise from the nearby Hostel Poc Na but let me assure you it was not an issue for us. In fact most nights we would stop off to grab a "one last drink," before heading off to bed and the live bands were entertaining. We did have the windows closed with the AC running as well as the ceiling fan on which is the norm for us back home. Marcela the owner lives on site so us arriving around 8 pm local was not an issue. Upon arrival it was nice to see that this Villa Iguana has a gated entry giving us a sense of security while staying here. This one bedroom 1 bath apartment is perfect for couples. It was nice to have the bedroom door shut as well to keep the room cool. There is a leather futon in the other kitchen/living room that could accommodate 2 children or maybe additional adult. The unit has all the accommodations one would need while staying on the island. While Isla is known for its many restaurants, one of the reasons we stayed here, Villa Iguana does have a more than adequate kitchen with a stove, microwave, and the basic utensils to prepare food and snacks as well as a very cold refrigerator. Also we are dog lovers and loved have our neighbors, did not catch their names, and Marcela's pups roaming the grounds. They are really cute and super friendly and reminded us of back home. We also rented a golf cart for 3 days including gas/fuel through islamujeresgolfcartrentals.com which in turn subbed out through Luxury Golf Cart Rentals and were extremely satisfied. Their location from Villa Iguana is right down the road making it easy to refill. We parked it on the paved street a short distance for the Villa and had no issues with anyone messing with it. Lastly but definitely not least the best part about this place is it location to Playa Norte and walking distance to so many amazing restaurants and bars. Seriously only a short 5-10 minute walk.
-Either bring you own or head to Chedraui on the Island to grab a portable cooler. Load this up with drinks, snack, ice and head to the beach. There you can rent a beach chair w/umbrella for 100-200 pesos and then you do not have to pay their inflated prices.
-Stop by the Soggy Peso for the strongest margarita on the island. Notice I said strongest not the best tasting. Worth the Stop. Adios
We stayed 4 nights and enjoyed the place very much. The location is perfect.
The outdoor bar across the street was no issue at all. We would definitely stay there again.
This was my third visit to Isla Mujeres in the past four years, and by far one of my best visits. There are definitely some major pros to staying at Villa Iguana and only a few negatives.
Walking distance to Playa Norte, and dozens of Isla's best restaurants.
Full apartment accommodations so you can prepare your own meals, keep beer cold in your fridge, etc.
Close to golf cart rental shops so if you want to take a trip up to Chedraui to stock up on groceries you're just a block away from a golf cart rental.
Comfortable patio and hammocks. We loved sitting outside and reading.
Marcella is super friendly and very helpful!
The price is definitely right. Hard to beat all these amenities for this price.
The hostel across the way can be loud at night, but it's really only a problem if you want to sit outside super late. In the bedroom with the doors closed and the AC on we could not hear the noise.
Shower water pressure is not great, but that's common to this area so not a fault of the property, but something to keep in mind.
To sum up, it's a great place that I'd absolutely stay at again. My wife is an incredibly light sleeper and had no issue sleeping through the music at the hostel next door. It's in a great area that you really can't beat. Walking distance to just about everything on the island that you'd want to do. If we go back to Isla Mujeres (and I'm sure we will!) I would definitely stay here again. Oh, the dogs are super friendly and quiet by the way!
My husband and I just got back from our second year staying at Villa Iguana and loved it as much as the first time. It is a great place to stay if you want to be close to everything but also want privacy. You are minutes from the beach as well as the restaurants and bars, but yet you can sit out on the patio and read in the hammock without realizing your in town. The owner Marcella and her daughter Renata are very friendly and helpful with any questions one may have. We cannot wait to go back again next year.
We stayed in early December and had a great time! Village Iguana was more spacious than expected and the location was great. It was a short walk (10-5 minute) to playa norte and only a few blocks away from Hidalgo Street. While you can hear music from poc na, we never found it to be an issue. I would highly recommend staying here!
the location is really good, close to the center and the beaches, however the nearby disco is extremely loud until 3am and there is no way to find sleep. the owner's dogs are noisly too and their 'business' can be found everywhere in the yard. the kitchen's equipment is minimalistic, which maked the prep of a decent food difficult. overall the island is worth a stay for the fantastic sea and the lovely people.
Places to Eat:
There are many wonderful restaurants on Isla Mujeres and if you are a seafood lover you will be in heaven, the fish is as fresh as it gets! You'll find everything from traditional Mexican and Yucatan cuisine to Mediterranean, Italian, Asian, French and of course American. There is something for everyone on Isla.
Things to Do:
Isla Mujeres offers many activities to fill your days. Scuba diving, snorkeling and fishing, swim with the dolphins or sharks, visit the Turtle Farm and delight in these magnificent creatures! There are art galleries to visit, workshops to attend, massages to have, shops to browse through, tours to nearby wonders and the beautiful white sand beaches to enjoy.
Most people living and working on Isla speak a few words of English, many are fluent but it is greatly appreciated when visitors try to speak a little bit of Spanish, at the very least; hello (hola), good-bye (adiós), please (por favor) and thank you (gracias).
