Love, Love, Love to fish. Being on the River provides the best fishing in the area. Elk River cabin also has great provides great Watauga Lake access. Local marina down the street has boat rentals too. Love being on the lake but have to get away from it to get the kind of privacy I enjoy. Nature and the outdoors is my second home.
Watauga Lake & River vacation cabin rentals purchased this cabin in 2009
We chose to build our vacation home in this area because it offers many diverse activities. You have winter sports to summer sports where the water is very clean. You have fall foliage to sunny summers with no humidity or mosquitoes.
You have nascar racing in Bristol Tennessee just 40 miles
Ski Beech Mountain, NC for snow skiing is 15 miles
The most unique benefit is the versatility of this location.
Gorgeous cabin with quality craftsmanship. Cedar wood work, zebra wood floors. Very unique. A lot of thought went into this home. Snow skiing to jet skiing, Fall foliage to wildlife viewing right here on the property. Gorgeous views anytime of the year that are second to none. Paved roads, with good access to town, shopping and restaurants. Zip lines, whitewater rafting, Bristol race. Where mtns meet water.
My husband and I, along with two other couples, enjoyed our stay here while attending the Battle at Bristol football game. Our only complaint is that we didn't get to spend as much time at the cabin as we would have liked! The accommodations were clean and comfortable. We found the kitchen to be well-stocked. We truly appreciate the cabin being pet friendly and were thrilled that we were able to make arrangements beforehand to have the housekeeper let our dog out twice while we were at the football game. (I paid her separately for this service.) I would highly recommend this cabin.
The home is extremely spacious and it's nice have three separate levels when you have kids.
Fireplace upstairs wasn't functional but lower one was. The river below was a nice addition
with the caves. Off the beaten path for sure.
We had 6 adults, 4 kids and 2 dogs and still had plenty of space. We did not trip over each other. The kitchen is great. There's room for multiple people to cook at one time. We made a full Thanksgiving dinner.
We played board games, watched movies ate plenty of food, took walks, fished, found the caves, and just sat on the deck and enjoyed nature.
If you have questions, call Sheila, or Glen. They are great.
Positives: Spacious, interesting architecture, with two decks overlooking a mountain stream and with view of the hills beyond. Quiet, well off the road, secluded. Lower level has a separate living area complete with master bedroom with private bath including stall shower and jacuzzi, and its own deck and living room with a fireplace. 2nd level has another living room w fireplace, kitchen, and deck. Upstairs are two smaller bedrooms which share a basic full bath. If you are going with three couples as we did, consider that one of you will have a lot more comfort and privacy than the other two!! Security deposit was promptly returned.
Negatives: the oven and broiler did not work, and the faucet handle of the upstairs bath/shower was so loose that this engineer needed his girlfriend to figure out how to make it work, so maintenance could have been better. Otherwise, fully recommended and would have been five stars.
I was very pleased with the cabin. It had everything we needed. It was very clean and comfortable. I enjoyed sitting on the deck listening to the river and seeing thousands of stars and the moon. The only suggestion I have is to put a handle or bar in the walk in shower. I had a handicapped guest and was a little fearful when showering because he didn't have anything to hold on to. This is a great place and we all had a wonderful time.
The cabin itself is absolutely beautiful - it has very high ceilings, lots of natural lighting, and everywhere you look, in every small window, there is a beautiful view. It was spotless and you can tell that someone has invested time and money into this cabin. It has 3 levels:
- Top level: A loft that consists of 2 bedrooms (1 king, 1 queen) and 1 beautiful bathroom. Stairs are wooden and may be a bit scary for the elderly. One room has no TV.
- Main level: Has a living area, 1/2 bath, kitchen (gas stovetop!), wraparound deck, huge TV, huge dining room table, and lovely gas fireplace. The kitchen is breathtaking and has everything you need. Pullout couch doesn't work. Firewood not provided.
- Bottom level: Has a living area with a pool table, gas fireplace, coffee table, TWO couches (one of which is a functional pull-out couch), a laundry room with a refrigerator (surprisingly convenient), and a separate master bedroom with an en suite (bathroom). Stairs are carpet. The second deck is on this level. There is a Steamist in the ginormous double (yes, double) shower that works very well, to create steam in the shower area during cooler months. There is also a jacuzzi or whirlpool type of tub in there, but I didn't use it. I tried to use the heated floors in the bathroom and it never worked for me. Large flat screen TV in the main area and master bedroom. There was also a creepy Corgi coin bank on the table that my dog just couldn't stop staring at. I couldn't stop laughing and ultimately had to move it to the bookshelf (which, btw, is lovely).
The owner was very quick to respond (I mean lighting speed, under 3-4 minutes) when I had a question on the day of check-in, which I really appreciated. 4WD not necessary when it's not snowing; there is a beautiful paved road all the way up to the cabin. Beautiful river within walking distance, parking available.
My biggest gripe was the practically unusable Internet. I appreciate being "away from it all" as the cabin is truly secluded and private, but the bottom line is that nowadays Internet is necessary. I even tried to Google a picture of poison ivy before going out to check out the hiking trails on the property and couldn't because of how slow the internet was ;D which had me laughing but also slightly terrified. Verizon gets no signal, but landlines for domestic calls are provided. If you want to unplug from the world, I highly recommend this cabin and owner! Thank you for being pet-friendly!
