Ski Trip with Friends

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here over the weekend and really enjoyed. The place was very clean, both fireplaces worked, lots of TV stations and wifi service was fast. Everyone in our group talked about how comfortable the beds were so we all slept well. Didn’t do much cooking but there were two fridge’s which was really nice. We also used the outdoor grill. The view off the deck is all mountain and Forrest, you look down over a pretty big river. Its very relaxing to listen to the running waters. You can’t see any other neighbors, no ones around you but the nearest store that sells gas and beer is less than five mins. We hiked the property and fished, caught a lot of trout. We skied Sugar and Beech because this place is centrally located to all the slopes, easy scenic drive. too. I know that me and my friends will be back to enjoy this place again.

Owner's Response: Its just so good to hear these words. Thank you so much for making our day. So glad you enjoyed your stay. Its such a unique property with 37 acres to hike, roam and explore. Your right this is very private property with no neighbors, but still convenient with a local store less than five minutes and towns in every direction in about 30 mins. Centrally located to all the slopes too. Glad you got to fish. With over 2000 feet of river frontage its hard to resist. Thank you for taking such good care of our home. It is most appreciated and know you are welcome back anytime.

Beautiful Cabin, Great Stay!

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful few days here … gorgeous home, warm and welcoming. Met up with the housekeeper at the local store about a five minutes drive. She was sweet and willing to baby sit our dog while we were gone one day white water rafting. Great country for that kind thing. Went down the street to the local marina and bought a fishing license and fished most of the weekend. Cooked trout on the outdoor gas grill every night too. My grand-kids were with us and every evening we enjoyed the outdoor fire pit yard. There was also a jungle gym that the kids played on while we told stories around the campfire. The fire pit is large and perfect for families to gather around and tell tails. Our family loves the outdoors, hiking and fishing so this property was perfect. You have about 40 acres to roam, fish and hike, we even found a cave down by the river to explore. We saw no one, no snakes and were surprised that we didn’t even see poison ivy. This place looks out over a large river. You can hear the water running from the deck. Its about a 7 minute walk down to the water. The walk down to the river is easy, down your drive way and theres pretty much the river on the right. We let our young children and dogs go down to the river daily with out us. We could see them fishing from the deck and could keep an eye on them. All roads are paved, but hardly no traffic. You can also drive down to the river, the drive takes just a minute and is the great if you are caring a heavy cooler full of food and beverage. We caught more trout than we could possibility eat. So if fishing is your intention you have found the right place. Whole group was very concerned with internet. We are all working and needed to stay in touch during our stay. Wifi at this place worked great. I believe the service is with hughes. Were all able to check and answer emails in a timely fashion. We received a very detailed welcome package that was very helpful. The directions to the property were spot on. We usually use navigation now a days but found their directions easy to follow. Restaurants mentioned were excellent. We tried the gamekeeper, twiggs and one place right down the road called the Captains table. Its on the water with beautiful lake views. The home itself is all log (no dry wall). The furniture inside is very nice, the bedding is wonderful, got the best nights rest we’ve had in a while. This is a great cabin for large families to share with 3 stories, lots of room. A+ rating on this home.

Owner's Response: Cant thank you enough for all your kind words. So good to hear these days ... Thank your husband for all the extra fish he caught. Our local fire department had a fish fry so know they were put to good use. Look forward to seeing everybody again this fall. Love our returning guests.

A beautiful property and setting, but beware....

  • 3 of 5

In the spirit of another reviewer, I will give you an honest review and start with the positives:

This home is a beautiful property in a quiet remote setting, overlooking a crystal clear river. You have to walk a few meters down the main roadway to access it (small children and pets beware). The home is well stocked, and feels very cozy and well kept. The views from the A-frame windows in the living area are a reminder you are away from home, and the sky from the wrap around deck at night is so clear that star gazing is enjoyable. Both fireplaces work perfectly to heat the home during the winter (it was below freezing the nights we were there), and the internet works at a decent speed for surfing (not so much Netflix) and using Wifi for Cellular as our Verizon phones had no service the time we were there. Pool table in the basement was a nice treat, as was the steam shower in the basement master bath. Overall, a lovely home with just one thing that needs to be addressed...

The beware part: Do you love ladybugs? If so, this is place for you. We arrived at 10pm to a home covered in hundreds of dead lovebugs. You could not walk anywhere without stepping on them. After 60 mins of cleaning it was tolerable in the living area and one room we chose to sleep in (didn't bother with 3rd level). I emailed the property team and the next day the housekeeper (she is lovely) came by to apologize explaining that pest control was there earlier in the week. She had been given the incorrect arrival date (so did we on our confirmation paperwork), and assisted us with the small things we needed (dish soap, etc) that would have been part of her cleaning that day. The office (via the Housekeeper) did not offer a concession of any type but stated we could extend our stay. Well, if it were not for the LIVE ladybug infestation that rendered us to the basement for the duration of our stay, that would have been lovely. We were left to deal with the rafters, windows, chandeliers, and lighting on the main level covered in live ladybugs, which were the worst in the evening (trying to stay warm I assume). We had a pet, so we had to sweep and clear them daily in order to use the home as they would fall onto/into whatever we were doing at the time. **Please have this wonderful and lovely home tented and cleared for the next guests so that they do not have to deal with this. We have stayed in many places in the area, know that they can get it, but the #'s here are overwhelming.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your compliments and sorry for the lady bugs. They hit this area once yearly for about a week and then disappear for another year. All cabins are effected and treated for them. Keep in mind these cabins are all in the Cherokee National forest. This guest was offered a refund if they left the property. They said they wanted to stay, didn't expect money back and asked for a late check out. They were told to leave as late as they like on Sunday or stay an extra night at no charge. We thought they were really good sports by staying and wanted to accomate best as we could. Know the lady bugs are long gone now.

Scenic and private setting

  • 4 of 5

The home is extremely spacious and it's nice have three separate levels when you have kids.

Fireplace upstairs wasn't functional but lower one was. The river below was a nice addition

with the caves. Off the beaten path for sure.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your kind works. It is a spacious home, great for kids or adults looking to get away with over 40 acres and 2000 feet of river frontage to explore, hike and fish. Yes, and a cave too. New gas logs have been purchased and all is in great working order again. Know you are always welcome back.

Great place to get away and enjoy family!!

  • 5 of 5

We had 6 adults, 4 kids and 2 dogs and still had plenty of space. We did not trip over each other. The kitchen is great. There's room for multiple people to cook at one time. We made a full Thanksgiving dinner.

We played board games, watched movies ate plenty of food, took walks, fished, found the caves, and just sat on the deck and enjoyed nature.

If you have questions, call Sheila, or Glen. They are great.
