Gorgeous

We rented the cabin for our anniversary and it was lovely. Very spacious and clean. The best part was probably how secluded it was and the shower/sauna. After hiking it was perfect and well needed!

Beautiful Cabin in a great location.

  • 3 of 5

We rented the cabin mid September. When we arrived, there was a note from the house cleaner informing us that all of the towels were in the dryer (which meant I dropped my bags and went and folded 2 loads of towels). We decided to not venture out and just enjoy the cabin and cook during the duration of our stay. Unfortunately, we kept finding random dirty dishes placed among the clean ones. I understand that every dish and utensil cannot be inspected in the short window it takes to turn the cabin for the next guest but just something the owners might want to be aware of, especially taking into consideration the hefty cleaning fee we were charged. Also, we had no luck lighting the upstairs fireplace but the downstairs one worked perfectly. Overall the cabin was really beautiful. I would caution pet owners and families with children about allowing kids and pets to swim in the river beside the house. My daughter and I were walking among the rocks in rain boots and managed to pick up a few rusty fishing lures with the lines still attached.

Now to get to the best part; the view is amazing. We saw some of the largest and most beautiful trout and bass in the river but had no luck whatsoever catching them. The water was so clear, I could see them rush up, inspect the bait and almost knowingly swim away from it. There is a steam shower in the downstairs bathroom that we cannot stop raving about, I now need one in my home. We would love to go back again one day. There area is remote and beautiful!

A Nice Home with Beautiful views and Nicely furnished

  • 5 of 5

We checked into this property right after the reviewer who had a wedding party. We noticed in this advertisement that the owner said no wedding, events or party's of any kind permitted. We were told right up front from the lady on the phone that there might be a problem with the a/c but it wasn't that hot up there in the mountains so we took our chances. Arrived late that night around 11 pm and everything working fine. We were told that the unit needed to de-thaw, sometime they freeze up when turned way, way down. The housekeeper had set it on 70 that evening and it was a bit chilly. Inside the home was very nice, we found everything in working order, leather furniture was comfortable and the dinning room table (where we set up shop) was long enough to accommodate our teenagers and their IPads. We all commented that the beds were very comfortable, that's important to us and our backs. Theres a nice living area upstairs and another nice living area down stairs. Having two living areas with TV's is great for large groups who may want to divide and watch different things at night. Tv's are also in the bedrooms. Lots of channels to choose from. Great wifi service which we really didn't expect. Hughes net has come a long way. The views off the decks were great, we grilled out every night and picnicked on deck. We found comfortable chairs on deck as well as picnic tables. You can hear the rivers running waters from the deck, its very relaxing. It's heavily wooded so you don't see any neighbors, however you can see the river threw the tress and bet in the fall the leaves turn and you'd see a lot of color. This is a very private, very secluded, but towns are only 30 minutes drive in about every direction. We explored and rode around some. Boone's got a lot from Walmart to grocery and adult beverage shops. Easy drive too, one road takes you there. I think we'll be back this fall. Would definitely return and appreciate the honesty when making the reservation.

In all honesty we had not planned on writing a review since there were no problems with our stay. After looking at the online reviews we realize the importance of writing good news.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for sharing such kind words. It is a very nice property that's well maintained and loved. Glad the a/c worked well. Given time, we knew the a/c unit would de-thaw and unfreeze in a few hours. Yes, if we have a known issue we are going to let our guests know, up front as we don't want anyone walking into a bad situation. Glad the home met your expectations and that your family vacation was a hit. We have your new reservation marked on our calendar and can't wait for your return trip. Know too the housekeeper has your phone charger and will leave for you in the cabin the day you check in. See you back here soon.

Spacious cabin overlooking a river, just Heavenly!

  • 5 of 5

Just stayed here and had a great time. This home is perched hill side overlooking a large river. It sits on about 40 acres so you can hike, swim and fish right here on the property. There’s a cave down by the river too for those daring enough. My teenagers stuck their heads in and took a quick look. We hiked daily all over this property. Saw lots of deer and two huge owls live close by. Beautiful, peaceful and perfect for a family gathering. The back yard comes with a fire pit with seating around it which is really nice so you don’t have to drag chairs out there. We did a bonfire every night. The home inside is much larger than what we thought. Very spacious. Even though the owners have a policy of no more than 8 guests on the property it could accommodate more. Theres a living room up stairs adjacent to the kitchen with a stone fireplace, tv etc .. and then another living area down stairs adjacent to the game room with a stone fireplace, tv etc .. .So if you have a bunch of guys wanting to watch a game and a bunch of teenagers wanting to watch a movie then the two groups have their own gathering area plus there’s tvs in all the bedrooms. There’s lots of tv channels, dvd players and good wifi service so we could all stay occupied. Theres a large pool table down stairs thats great for entertaining, sofa’s & standing room. We really enjoyed the game room. There's a long glass wall that opens up onto decking. Theres decking upstairs and downstairs, alot of decking that over looks the river. On the top floor are two very nice spacious bedrooms that share a large full bath and down stairs is a beautiful master with attached full bath. There’s also a half bath near the kitchen. We were provided with a welcome package that was extensive, mentioning all kinds of things to do in the area. We did white water rafting and rented a pontoon boat at the marina. We really enjoyed our stay here last week. It was clean, well kept and worked out well for our family. Thank you very much for sharing your little piece of paradise. The only thing we did not like about this property is the driveway, but a general contractor came by during our stay and took measurements saying that it was going to be paved soon. We would definitely recommend this to others.

A wedding reception to remember

  • 2 of 5

The natural beauty of the location was breathtaking. The cabin showed some wear and tear. We rented the cabin for my daughters wedding. The decks, location, firepit, parking, and that beautiful staircase, we're all strong selling points in our decis on. The floors on 2nd floor were in pretty bad shape. Scarred up from previous renters. It was disappointing, because we rented for the estatic beauty of the cabin. This was not evident in pictures and not disclosed. It was surprising, since we were asked to not wear heels because they might damage floor. I asked all my guest to wear flats and provided spa slippers as well. Everyone complied. The ac did not work. We checked in at 530 the day prior to the wedding. By the next day, the wedding. We were In trouble. The temp in the house topped out at 85. Low of 77. It was awful. Guest, photographers, caterers, stagers. Dripping in sweat. We made it through my daughters wedding, collapsed exhausted and called Sheila the next morning, she told us the repairman was on the way. She also stated "she bet the account froze up". Which suggest to us that this had happened before. We waited, by 1:30, we called again. He is on his way. At 3:00 pm I called.Allison. Realtor explained our situation, she said if we couldn't take the heat, she would refund us that night stay, we tried to wait for repairman, we didn't leave to eat. I told her we could be out In an hour, she said Sheila would be by to check out the house with my cleaning deposit and refund. It was apparent that she was slightly agitated, but polite. At 4:15, I called sheila, who said she was at the office aND wouldn't be leaving till 6:30. Sheila is the maid. I knew she was not coming to walk through while I was there. I said OK, we did everything we were supposed too, we took off all trash but 2 bags. We had 8. It was an reception with beverages, food and gifts. My cleaners cleaned and swept. I did before Ieft. We used linen tablet cloths. I did not vaccum, I did not mop. Allison told me to not do anything, however, I strpiped the beds. Washed all towels, ran dishwasher. I used my own trashbags, toilet paper and paper towels. On july 20th, I received my deposit back, a nights refund. We did not receive the cleaning deposit as stated. The realtor stated that the account temp had been turned down to sixty and left, causing the account to freeze up. Not the case. Integrity, people. Reputation is everything. Daughters wedding photos were submitted to local magazin

Owner's Response: Note for anyone reading this review. We do not allow wedding, party's or events at this home. It is not a venue of any kind. Even though it is a large cabin it is still advertised as a single family dwelling that only allows up to 8 guests. Please do not move the thermostat way way down and turn on the fireplaces that can confuse the system causing damage, disrupt the system & become a problem. In addition to the refundable security/damage deposit there is a cleaning fee to pay the housekeeper. She does a lot more than just sweep and mop. Please know that cleaning fees are paid for their services and are not refundable. We ask that all guests respect our simple instructions when staying at our home.

Very Nice Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

We stumbled upon this place and discovered a true gem. Nice, neat and very clean. This is much much more than just a cabin. The views off the deck are gorgeous. We loved enjoying grilling our dinners on deck nightly and dinned at the picnic table provided. The back yard offers a huge fire pit so later in the evening we moved out there to roast marsh mellows and tell ghost stories. Our teens hiked the property daily. Its about 40 acres and a huge river runs thru it. Daily trips to town were made, great restaurants were recommended and lots of cute shops were taken in. The reservation process was very easy and lots of payment options offered. Our phone calls were promptly answered so the service we received could not have been better. Our family will definitely be back and we have already told several of our friends. Thanks for making our vacation peaceful and pleasant.

Owner's Response: Glad to hear that you folks enjoyed The Elk River Cabin. It is a unique property offering lots of hiking, fishing and swimming in one of America's cleanest rivers. There is a nice size gas grill on deck. We have it hard wired to under ground gas tank so you never run out. While you grill you can over look that grand river and hear its rushing waters. The fire pit out back is a great added bonus. Perfect for gathering around and story telling. There are a lot of good places to eat and our welcome package maps them all out for you. Know there are chain restaurants too that are familiar to everyone but expect your welcome package to talk more about unique places to visit. Thanks again for your kind words about our property - know they are very much appreciated.
