Located in one of the most beautiful, least traveled areas of San Diego County, this unique accommodation was created by a artisan contractor couple with comfort and privacy in mind while offering a close to nature experience. It is a 16x20 fireproof safari tent on a 16 x 33' deck with handcrafted railings, furniture and details. The tent cabin has full kitchen designed for people who like to cook , a spacious bath with clawfoot tub, queen size bed with heated mattress, gas fireplace and deck that overlooks Oak Grove Valley. There is a DVD player, dvd library, WIFI for light internet use ( no streaming or downloading of music or videos is allowed), ceiling fans inside and on the covered porch. Hot tub on the deck as well as 2 chaise lounges and dining set for alfresco dining. The deck is designed to keep your pets in if you do not want them to have access to the yard area which is totally fenced with no-climb wire. It is suited for 2 people and is located on a private ranch in which the owners preside. IF YOU CHOOSE TO BOOK DURING WINTER OR SUMMER MONTHS, KEEP IN MIND TEMPS CAN RANGE FROM 20 TO 106 AND THE SHELTER IS A TENT....NO AIR CONDITIONING AND FIREPLACE DOES NOT KEEP THE TENT WARM WHEN IT GETS MUCH BELOW 50. THERE WILL BE NO REFUNDS IF YOU DECIDE YOU DONT LIKE THE WEATHER BUT HAVE 7 DAYS BEFORE YOUR STAY TO CANCEL.
Our motto is 'you won't see us unless you need us' and we value our guests privacy so we leave them alone unless needed. Pets are welcome but because of deck elevation, it is not suitable for young children.
The tent cabin opens to the outdoors at each end for views of the chaparral forest and can be closed during bad weather or evening. This exposure to nature has a wonderful relaxing effect and the japanese call it 'shinrin-yoku' which translates to 'forest bathing', or being surrounded by a forest environment.
The main draw to this area is it natural beauty, remoteness, privacy, abundant hiking and biking trails, leash free dog trails and winery's.

Lane and I are artists/craftsman/contractors who love nature, hiking, animals and working with our hands. We get a bang out of creating spaces, transforming ugly to beautiful and providing a place for people to unwind.
Laurie Roberts purchased this cabin in 2011
We looked for a long time to find a place that was semi remote that would be good setting for wilderness vacation rental and that had a fixer house on it. We found this 10 acres with adobe home built in the 40's, an old walnut grove and knew it was the one because of the beautiful view of the valley, it was surrounded by nature rather than neighborhood and it bordered on Cleveland National Forest land. We spent 2 years restoring/remodeling the house, putting in fruit trees and garden and in January 2013, came up with the safari tent concept as a vacation rental.
Total privacy, fenced compound for your dogs, gorgeous view and incredible night skies. The tent opens at each end during the day and close it at night. Surrounding yourself with nature and it's sounds have a very relaxing effect that you cannot get in a walled in structure. The Japanese call this 'shinrin-yoku' which translates to forest bathing, or being surrounded by a forest environment which has been shown to improve mental and physical health.
Wow! We absolutely loved our stay at Camp Ribbonwood. We stayed two nights and wish we could've stayed longer. We were able to bring out two boxer dogs which was wonderful. They did not want to leave! The fenced in yard was perfect for them to run around and play. Both nights we grilled and enjoyed time in the Jacuzzi. We saw countless amounts of shooting stars and it was just a beautiful sight. The views all around were just so amazing. We just couldn't get over how awesome the entire place was. The owners were very nice and showed us how everything worked and let us have our privacy the rest of our stay. We just loved being able to unwind, BBQ, star gaze, relax, and just enjoy each other. We hope to be back soon. Thanks so much for this amazing place. We have told so many of our friends about it and everyone is screaming " I WANNA GO!" :)
All the Amenities of home and the serene beauty of the wilderness. We happened to stay on the night of the Perseid Meteor Shower. The view of the stars was spectacular. We brought some Blue Apron meals and some pizza fixings and we didn't even think of leaving for 2 days. Having said that I think our 2 dogs had more fun than we did!
We will definitely be back! Thank You Laurie and Lane for creating such an amazing retreat!
Let me just start this review by saying that Laurie and Lane have made a "Hidden Paradise" , for those willing to forgo a 5 star hotel . I am almost reluctant to talk about "Ribbonwood" , for fear that my wife and I will have a hard time making future reservations . That being said ... I don't care who you are , you'll love every inch of Ribbonwood. Thank you both for allowing us the good fortune of staying here Laurie and Lane .... A/J Wasson
The most unique camping experience you will ever have! Glamping at it's best. This place is for nature lovers who love seclusion, fresh air, star-gazing, dogs, hiking and tent camping! You will be amazed by the attention to detail. This place is set up for comfort but retains all the elements of regular camping and the great outdoors. The hosts are lovely, dog loving people who welcome you with a smile, show you the ropes and then leave you to your privacy, assuring you that if you need anything, they are just down the hill and around the corner.
Such a great romantic glamping get away! We stayed for two nights but I wish we had one more. The ambiance was perfect. The bed is so comfy with the bed warmer. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need. Our dogs loved it! So romantic that we got engaged during our stay here :)
I recommend Camp Ribbon wood to all that enjoy that outdoors but in luxury. Laurie meet us at the road and gave us the tour and was so helpful and a delight to work with. The facility was great! Our dog had a great time also and we did not have to worry about him running off since it is all fenced in. The only thing that would have made it better if was clear at night to enjoy the stars. A great place to relax and un-wind after a tough week at work.
