Petfriendly Wilderness Retreat in San Diego Backcountry

Bedrooms 1
Space 480 sq ft
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Private Luxurious Safari Tent in fenced compound with Hot Tub

Located in one of the most beautiful, least traveled areas of San Diego County, this unique accommodation was created by a artisan contractor couple with comfort and privacy in mind while offering a close to nature experience. It is a 16x20 fireproof safari tent on a 16 x 33' deck with handcrafted railings, furniture and details. The tent cabin has full kitchen designed for people who like to cook , a spacious bath with clawfoot tub, queen size bed with heated mattress, gas fireplace and deck that overlooks Oak Grove Valley. There is a DVD player, dvd library, WIFI for light internet use ( no streaming or downloading of music or videos is allowed), ceiling fans inside and on the covered porch. Hot tub on the deck as well as 2 chaise lounges and dining set for alfresco dining. The deck is designed to keep your pets in if you do not want them to have access to the yard area which is totally fenced with no-climb wire. It is suited for 2 people and is located on a private ranch in which the owners preside. IF YOU CHOOSE TO BOOK DURING WINTER OR SUMMER MONTHS, KEEP IN MIND TEMPS CAN RANGE FROM 20 TO 106 AND THE SHELTER IS A TENT....NO AIR CONDITIONING AND FIREPLACE DOES NOT KEEP THE TENT WARM WHEN IT GETS MUCH BELOW 50. THERE WILL BE NO REFUNDS IF YOU DECIDE YOU DONT LIKE THE WEATHER BUT HAVE 7 DAYS BEFORE YOUR STAY TO CANCEL.

Our motto is 'you won't see us unless you need us' and we value our guests privacy so we leave them alone unless needed. Pets are welcome but because of deck elevation, it is not suitable for young children.

The tent cabin opens to the outdoors at each end for views of the chaparral forest and can be closed during bad weather or evening. This exposure to nature has a wonderful relaxing effect and the japanese call it 'shinrin-yoku' which translates to 'forest bathing', or being surrounded by a forest environment.

The main draw to this area is it natural beauty, remoteness, privacy, abundant hiking and biking trails, leash free dog trails and winery's. Here is link of places of interest nearby:

About Laurie Roberts

Lane and I are artists/craftsman/contractors who love nature, hiking, animals and working with our hands. We get a bang out of creating spaces, transforming ugly to beautiful and providing a place for people to unwind.

Laurie Roberts purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Laurie Roberts chose Warner Springs

We looked for a long time to find a place that was semi remote that would be good setting for wilderness vacation rental and that had a fixer house on it. We found this 10 acres with adobe home built in the 40's, an old walnut grove and knew it was the one because of the beautiful view of the valley, it was surrounded by nature rather than neighborhood and it bordered on Cleveland National Forest land. We spent 2 years restoring/remodeling the house, putting in fruit trees and garden and in January 2013, came up with the safari tent concept as a vacation rental.

What makes this cabin unique

Total privacy, fenced compound for your dogs, gorgeous view and incredible night skies. The tent opens at each end during the day and close it at night. Surrounding yourself with nature and it's sounds have a very relaxing effect that you cannot get in a walled in structure. The Japanese call this 'shinrin-yoku' which translates to forest bathing, or being surrounded by a forest environment which has been shown to improve mental and physical health.

Property: Camp Ribbonwood

I would live here if they'd sell it to us. ;) Perfect view, perfect blend of amenities and rustic. They literally thought of EVERYTHING. And the bed was heated to top it off. My husband got this as a surprise for me for our 2 yr. anniversary and it was everything we needed it to be. Thank you SO much!!

Me and my boyfriend visited Camp Ribbonwood for our 3 year anniversary. The location and the tent are even BETTER in person! We couldn't believe all the incredible details that Laurie and Lane put into this place. They really have thought of EVERYTHING! It is warm, welcoming and has everything you need for a secluded and relaxing getaway. We hiked and also visited a couple local wineries - which were equally warm and welcoming. I highly recommend Camp Ribbonwood and will 100% be going back as soon as I get the chance!

idyllic cozy retreat

  • 5 of 5

although there are nearby attractions (hiking, wineries & gliding) we used our stay to relax, unwind and rejuvenate. We found it even more entrancing than the pictures show and will definitely go again. One night of our stay the wind blew the tent around a bit and although we were snug as can be inside I'll take ear plugs next time just in case. Hosts were lovely.

Peaceful, perfect quite place with just the right amenities

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were stressed from work, and this was the perfect place to get away, take our 2 dogs and just relax. We're not super outdoorsy people so rugged camping wasn't what we were looking for. This was perfect. Love the grill, love the hottub, love the bathroom and mini kitchen... and love the heated mattress. The only missing things were the couple of food items that we forgot to bring ;) Laurie was very nice, helpful and responsive too. We'll be back!

Perfect respite!

  • 5 of 5

Great place to rest and relax. Love the open air style of the tent. You're outside, but not. Our city doggie loved adventuring in the fenced in area. Hot tub at night is magical. We attempted pizza and did pretty well. Just what two, stressed out worker-warrior women needed.
