Please read the entire description for this cabin. This is a 100 year old cabin and is rustic and quaint, but it is not perfect. This is actually real 100 year old cabin that borders the national forest, not new construction. We like this cabin because staying here is like walking back in time to a different era. You can stay at one of the many new construction vacation rentals in the Shenandoah Valley, but Bear Ridge Cabin has history and character. This is one thing that sets Bear Ridge Cabin apart. If you read the description you will know what to expect. We also believe that service is another thing that sets us apart in the vacation rental industry. Katie & I personally own every cabin that we manage. We will be unavailable for the most of the month of June because we will be having a baby. Since I'm our cleaner, know that if you book a property during June it may not be clean. You are agreeing to accept this property in as is condition.
Bear Ridge Cabin is a 100 year old real cabin that sits on a ridge above Rawley Springs. There is direct access to the George Washington National Forest within a couple of minutes right out the door of the cabin and we own all of the land between the cabin and the national forest. There are two rivers (one is small enough that you might call it a stream) that are about a 5-10 minute walk from the cabin. They both contain native Trout and one of them is stocked with Trout as well. Dry River (it never actually dries up) is one of the best Trout fishing rivers on the east coast.
There are several trails that are within walking distance of the national forest where hiking and mountain biking are allowed. One goes up into the mountains and the other is mostly level and follows the river for about 45 minutes and then heads up into the mountains.
There are also numerous hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and ATV trails within driving distance of the cabin.
We will be unavailable for the most of the month of June because we will be having a baby. Since I'm our cleaner, know that if you book a property during June it may not be clean. You are agreeing to accept this property in as is condition.
The cabin has two bedrooms. The both have queen sized beds. The bedrooms are not very large, but they are quaint and cozy. There is a queen couch bed inside and one outside on the screen porch. The cabin sleeps 6 inside in beds/couch bed if shared and 8 if using regular couches. the maximum occupancy is the amount of people we allow to stay not the amount that can sleep in beds. The nice sized living room with the original real stone, wood burning fireplace is a great place to gather with friends or sit and read when the weather turns colder. There is one bathroom with an older (1990's era) sit down shower. The kitchen has all newer stainless steel appliances, including a gas stove top. The fridge and pantries may have food that other guest have left for your enjoyment. There is also a deck with a grill, charcoal. Guests are welcome to use it. The screen porch is nice sized and has two older couches and a chair as well as a table with seating for 5.
There is a queen size pull out couch in the living room and then another one one the screen porch. The pull out couch on the screen porch is older and not very comfortable, but it is an amazing place to sleep when the weather suits.
In the warmer months there is a floor model A/C unit that will cool down the cabin nicely. In the Winter there are several smaller heaters throughout the cabin that are able to keep the cabin warm enough even when the temperature drops below zero. We've had guests stay when it was -6 degrees and still be warm. There is also a wood burning fireplace, wood for a fee, can really warm up the cabin on cold days. The fireplace is made to heat the whole house. Putting a small fire in the fireplace will cause it to smoke out.The cabin windows are custom and made of real wood and they are very old and therefore there are no screens for them. We would also like to replace the three screen doors soon as well whereas they are older.
Pets are welcome but we do require a pet fee when pets stay at the cabin.
On clear nights, you can see thousands of stars overhead. Because this is a real cabin, there are things you should expect to find on occasion in an older real cabin such as spider webs (we clean them for every guest but they do reappear quickly), ladybugs, tiny critters and the occasional stink bug during certain times of the year. Sheets, toilet paper and towels are provided. Paper towels are not.
