|Minimum Stay||7 nights|
If you’re looking for a relaxing getaway on the Finger Lakes, you’ll find it at Buttercup Cottage. This unique property features the elbow room of a park-like setting and offers outstanding privacy, gorgeous views and the charm of a country cottage.
The property includes two cottages that can sleep 8 guests. The main cottage features two bedrooms (one with queen bed, one with a bunk that sleeps 3), kitchen with eat-in area, a living room with cable TV, and a screen porch with panoramic views of the lake.
The guest cottage is ideal for visitors, in-laws or older kids. It includes a king bed and a twin, a bathroom with shower stall, and large screen porch with a picnic table facing the lake. There's also an outdoor shower facing west that’s ideal for rinsing off in the sun after a dip in the lake.
The yard is unusually large for a lake property, occupying .8 acre of grass for you to play Whiffle ball or touch football, or just lounge in the sun.
To the south of the main house, overlooking the lake, is a gazebo with a picnic table for dinners looking at the lake as the sun sets.
The waterfront, accessible by stairs, features an L-shaped dock and a boat house with canoe.
Buttercup Cottage is located on the west side of Honeoye Lake, about a mile south of the town of Honeoye. This quiet location, surrounded by friendly, quiet, summer-long neighbors, is an ideal setting for a relaxing vacation.
Things to do include some of the best walleye and bass fishing in NY State, visiting local wineries, or enjoying the breathtaking view from Harriet Hollister State Park, at the south end of the lake.
For boaters, Honeoye Lake has a state boat launch and the clean, quiet lake is idea for all kinds of water sports.
Please note: During the peak season from mid-June through early September, Buttercup Cottage has a 7-night minimum. During peak season, check in is on Saturdays at 3 p.m., and check out is on Saturdays at 11 a.m.
Having a lake cottage was a dream of ours when we moved from New York City to Rochester 25 years ago. When we took a flyer and looked at Buttercup Cottage, we knew it was perfect for us: big enough to have guests, close to Rochester, great neighbors and with plenty of elbow room to romp and play. Our kids grew up spending two weeks at the lake every summer, and it's created great memories for us.
Kurt Jaeckel purchased this cottage in 2003
Buttercup Cottage feels like a refuge from the busy world, but it's only a half hour from Rochester. When you turn down the driveway and see the huge lawn, the outdoor sun-shower, the gazebo overlooking the lake and the bright yellow buildings, you know it's a special place. The lake is small enough to not attract crowds of boaters, but large enough to enjoy tubing, fishing, sailing and just sightseeing. It's an ideal haven, the perfect mix of convenience and charm.
We love watching the sun rise over the Bristol Hills from the porch, coming up from the water to rinse off in the sun in the outdoor shower, playing Whiffle ball on the lawn and having dinner on the gazebo, watching the lake get peaceful at sunset.
I cannot begin to explain how amazing this place is and how accommodating Bonnie and Jack are. When we arrived Bonnie had freshly baked lemon-blueberry bread for us. The cottage is so charming and picturesque. You really get two cottages for the price of one. The separate cottage worked very well for the family with a toddler, especially for naps and nighttime. The yard is to die for, we played so many games of frisbee, football, soccer, etc. The Jaeckel's provide a paddle boat, a canoe, lifejackets, a great fire pit for s'mores, boardgames galore, etc. I hope you get to experience the Buttercup Cottage, as a girl who grew up in the Finger Lakes, I could not imagine a better place to bring my kids to to experience the beauty of Upstate New York. We stayed 5 days this time and plan on booking two weeks next summer, we all cannot wait to go back!
Our family enjoyed meeting Butter Cup Cottage owner Bonnie. What a treasure this Cottage was! It was clean, peaceful and offered the restful vacation that was much needed.
Thank you and our plans are to come back again.
Fondly, Charlotte and Jim
I met with my Ohio family (we live in NH) here at the halfway point for a long weekend stay. We all loved Buttercup Cottage! The hostess, Bonnie, was very welcoming and made sure we were settled in okay. She even had freshly baked tea bread for us to enjoy! The house was clean and comfortable for everyone. My wife and I loved taking the canoe out on the lake, my dad loved catching fish off the dock, my young son enjoyed all of the sports equipment and playing in the yard. We also enjoyed cooking on the brand new BBQ grill. It was also nice to have a kitchen table to play games, and satellite TV to watch NBA playoffs. The best part for everyone, though, was watching the evening light fade over the beautiful mountain view across the water from the screened in porch with new windows. I'd highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking to relax and unwind for a few days. I am sure we'll be back some day.
Our vacation at ButterCup cottage was perfect. There were 5 adults and 2 teen age boys, it is large enough so we could all spend time together or find our own "quiet spots" if we wanted a little alone time.....the description is spot on and the property was clean and well taken care of. Kurt and Bonnie, left us note with their contact information in the event we had any questions. There is a book provided with local beaches, parks, shops, etc. We especially enjoyed "Roots" restaurant located in Naples, NY...it was unique and delicious....
The photo's don't do it justice. The view of and access to the lake are lovely. My family was surprised at the space and all of the conveniences, from the new life jackets to the wifi service. The fishing was great (we went through 6 dozen nightcrawlers!), and shops were close by for last minute shopping, We should have stayed two weeks!
Buttercup Cottage is on Honeoye Lake in the beautiful Finger Lakes Region of upstate New York. The lake itself is about 5 miles long by a mile wide and features some of the best fishing in NY State, especially for bass and walleye. Sheltered by picturesque hills, the lake is peaceful and ideal for sailing and water skiing or tubing. At the south end of the park is the Harriet Hollister State Park, which features spectacular hiking trails overlooking the lake. At the north end of the lake is Sandy Bottom Beach, an ideal place to go for a swim or a barbecue.
The Finger Lakes region around Honeoye includes many wineries, most of which have beautiful lake views. The historic town of Canandaigua is about 10 miles to the east and features many restaurants, Roseland water park and CMAC, a popular summer concert venue.
