About Tom Hassell
After living in a smaller city for several years, I wanted to move to the country where I could have a place for horses and plenty of room to entertain family and friends. Fortunately, we have a detached guest house on the property and hope others can enjoy!

Very nice and relaxing!
Nice relaxing place to stay!! Steve the pool and grounds superintendent is really hospitable! Close to fun things to do.
Great secluded getaway - quiet and relaxing
This is a GREAT property - the small cabin sits on a great piece of land, with a big horse barn, chicken coop, and large pond. The cabin has a fenced saltwater pool that is the epitome of relaxation. Plenty of things to do while on property - and since the owner was not in town this weekend, we had the whole place to ourselves. I stopped by the chicken coop the first morning and got fresh eggs for breakfast. We rode the golf cart across the property and pet the horses. We spent most of our time in that pool though - so nice not to get out smelling like chlorine. The cabin was well stocked with everything we needed for the weekend and Steve was very helpful with anything we needed while we were there. The only thing I could recommend is a bit of a more comfortable place to sit in the living room, but the futon worked alright for the quiet evenings of reading and drinking wine. The back and front porches are excellent for enjoying the evening breeze - as long as the bugs don't bother you - but with some repellant, you'll be fine. This would be ideal for a small family or couple - larger families may have problems finding a place for all to sleep. Property is close to both Houma and Thibodeaux for dining options if you won't want to cook. Highly recommend and very appreciative of the weekend getaway!
Epitome of tranquility!
My husband and I brought our two dogs along for just over a week of vacation. We traveled to Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and Grand Isle for day trips. Locally we toured several plantations, experienced our first air boat ride, and imbibed in traditional creole foods as well as desserts. What we enjoyed most was Tom's hospitality on the farm. He has a warm welcoming spirit and truly enjoys sharing his blessings. We had use of a golf cart to explore the property, took time out on the porch swing to watch the horse trainer work the horses and bath them, ate fresh eggs from chickens that roam the property, took walks all hours of the day around the pond with our dogs, and swam I our own private pool, and had use of a washer and dryer in the pool outbuilding. Steve was also available if we had questions or needs. This was truly one of the most relaxing vacations we've ever had. If you can't find peace and serenity here, you won't find it anywhere. Take time to just be present and enjoy!
Great get away!! Quiet and relaxing.
I stayed here while I was on business and it was a great place to get away and forget about the day. Enjoyed being able to eat breakfast and dinner on the back porch with the view of the pool. If I need to come back for work, this will be the first place that I will choose to stay.
We just spent the month of February at the cottage and had a fantastic time. It was quiet, private and peaceful. We like to spend time in New Orleans and it was an easy hour's drive away, but when we'd return to the cottage we felt like we were a hundred miles from any city. We also explored in the other direction, going down the bayou. (Don't miss the Chauvin sculpture garden; Tom can direct you there). Tom is a genial, wonderful host and he also delivered the best orange juice I ever had from one of his trees. We are already looking forward to returning next year!
Property Was beautiful and Tom showed us great hospitality. Lots to explore and several wonderful restaurants during our exploration of southern Louisiana. So glad we decided to spend the week in such nice accommodations!
