I purchased my condo about 20 years ago as a home, and only recently moved as I found a great deal on a house that I couldn't pass up! I decided to rent my condo as I really didn't want to lose it. Renting my condo has been more work that I originally anticipated however I love the location and hopefully will move back at some point in the future. I didn't realize just how much work living in a house can be especially while working full time. Also, I miss the Sunsets and the morning Sunrise over the water. I also miss being able to walk across the street and run the beach. That stated, I have received lots of thanks you notes from happy renters. I have historically requested that people not place testimonials on the website but I have recently decided to change that policy. The reason I didn't want testimonials is because I was a little tardy turning the tax money over to the government but I have turned that job over to someone who is great at filling out forms and staying current so there is no longer any reason to refuse testimonials. Also, no more late fees and penalties. Yahoo!!!!
We purchased the condo because it had a nice big marina, and we had a boat. It also was kid friendly and we had a three (3) year old at the time. As soon as I saw the beach I knew I was home. I also wanted to live somewhere safe as I frequently was alone with a small child, and I didn't want to have to buy a guard dog. These were the main reasons I purchased the condo and moved to Siesta Key. At the time, I was married to an Airline Pilot who is a Floridian and he wanted to remain in Florida. I'm Canadian and I wanted beach, safety, and no traffic. We lived in Miami for a few years and I was over the traffic. We rented a Van and drove all over the State of Florida before finally deciding on Siesta Key and Harbor Towers.
My condo was decorated for me and not as a rental but, as luck would have it, I met the man of my dreams shortly after making my condo the perfect place for me. I left everything there when I moved and started over with my new husband. My condo has many extras that the other condo's in my building do not have. I put marble counters in both bathrooms and put a Bosh Washer and Dryer in the unit so I didn't have to walk down the hall to do laundry. I bought a top of the line pillow top mattress and decorated the condo in Tommy Bahama furniture. I put two shower heads in the guest bathroom plus a hand held washer, and put a jacuzzi tub in the master bathroom. My wooden shutters and bamboo floors make my condo a pleasant vacation experience.
Today, while I was surfing VRBO for future vacation options, I visited the site for a condo we have rented for the past 4 years on Siesta Key, Unit 629 at Harbor Towers in Siesta Key, FL. I usually don’t offer reviews of my experiences at units that I rent, but the review that was posted caught my eye, because it was totally contrary to the experience we have had over the past 4 years. I thought it was appropriate to provide an over view of our experience.
2014 was the fourth time we stayed in this unit. Our prior visits have been for 4 weeks in 2013 and 2 weeks in 2012, 2011 and 2010. This year we stayed for the month of March. Upon arriving each year, we have found the unit to be clean and orderly and ready to occupy. We have found this unit very appropriate for our needs and interests so that we will rent for 2 months in 2015. The unit is very spacious and is tastefully decorated. Having 3 bedrooms served us well when entertaining visitors and for our daily living needs. When we arrived, everything was neat and tidy, and we found that a new dining room table and flat screen TV had been added. This year was the first time we had WIFi access in the unit, which was more convenient than having to go to the lounge area. However, since we have Smart phones and I Pads, this was not a big issue. Since I do most of the cooking, I found the kitchen well stocked with cooking utensils and wine glasses. The only improvement I would offer is to add more lighting in the lanai area, as that is where we did most of our reading. We also appreciated the active social life around the grills on the patio area, which is where we cooked most of our meals. This was the hub of the cocktail hour, where people brought their wine and cocktails while they grilled their entrees. We met many new friends, and enjoyed the social activity that Harbor Towers offers. The Pig Roast and dance were especially entertaining. Golf outings and tennis are also available if interested.
We rented this unit from the owner for 6 weeks from January 18 on. In the emails from the owner she was very pleasant, helpful and easy to deal with. The web info was very nice.
Upon our arrival at the condo everything went downhill - the web pictures did not accurately represent reality. The floors were very dirty. There were pots and pan with food stuck on them, wine glasses with drink stains, dirty coffee mugs and glasses. in short all dishes and most of the pots had to be washed before use.
We had to purchase cleaner to remove the lime/calcium scale from within the dishwasher, mold remover from the washing machine, the shower stall, and the outlets in the jacuzzi tub; also, the necessary cleaners to clean the tile floors. The closet which housed the AC and Furnace was covered in a layer of dust, a potential fire hazard. The fire extinguisher was inaccessible. There was no phone or wireless internet in the condo contrary to what was listed on the website, but the photos showed both. When we contacted the owner and insisted that she should supply both these items, she responded with nasty and arrogant emails lamenting the hassle for her. She finally relented and had both items installed, then advised us that she would deduct $200. from the refundable security deposit at the end of our stay; this she did. How Juvenile!!!
Anyone thinking of renting this condo should be VERY WARY.
