Log Cabin in Pristine Northern Woods and Water Private Retreat

Bedrooms 2
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 1 - 7 nights

About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Loft, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 8)

This is not your ordinary vacation rental. If you need to be on the phone or the computer, this is not the place for you. We do provide a TV for watching movies. Twenty miles north of the Mackinaw Bridge, we are in the middle of the Hiawatha National Forest on a small inland lake. Yet we are close enough to freeway and local attractions, to return to civilization whenever the mood strikes.

Please note: Read through the Rental Contract for more details on this listing.

The lake is a shallow lake good for kayaking,(3 kayaks are included as is a rowboat), canoeing, and fishing. We are surrounded by forest and wildlife. It is not uncommon to see wolves, bears, and on a rare occasion moose.

The lake has 3 pair of nesting loons, that fill the air with the pristine sound of nature. Great spot for birding. If you love birds you will be in paradise. Eagles, hummingbirds, pileated woodpeckers, kingfishers, warblers, more types of water fowl than I can list here.

North Country Trail traverses the area and is excellent for hiking. ATV trails are also near by. If you enjoy biking cross country, you will love it here.

Lake Michigan Beach off US-2 is about 20 minutes away, if you want to enjoy swimming on a beautiful sandy shoreline. Tacquamenon Falls are about a hour north, as is Whitefish Point. The ferry to Mackinaw Island is a half an hour south. Sault Ste. Marie and the Soo Locks, are 45 min. northeast.

This is the place to really escape. Easy access on good roads. Very few houses on this thousand acre lake, as 75% of the shoreline is owned by the national forest.

Another FABULOUS stay!

  • 5 of 5

We love staying at this peaceful log cabin! This was our second stay and we enjoyed it maybe even more than the first time--perhaps because of the anticipation, knowing how beautiful the place and the setting are--so much solitude! The new couch is really nice--very comfortable! The cabin is supplied with all you could need for your stay and there's just so much to do in the area if you want to be out & about. Kayaking right there on the lake, campfires nightly (saw the Northern Lights one night), and hiking on the NCT right out the door without even "having" to drive.

We did drive up to Tahquamenon and spent a day hiking up there and seeing the falls, plus dinner afterward at the restaurant right there at the Upper Falls. Also, went into St Ignace one evening for pizza at BC--yum!

Can't say enough good things about this rental. We hope to be back again next fall! Thank you for making your beautiful place available for others to rent & enjoy!

We absolutely loved it. We will be back!

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect rental for us. The cabin was absolutely breath taking. We had stuff for s'mores waiting for us on the table when we got there with a little note welcoming us. The woods were beautiful with the fall foliage and was quiet. This rental enabled us to do things in the area during the day and relax at night. Being able to leave the hustle and bustle at home is exactly what we needed. Thankyou so much for sharing your cabin with us. We really enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful location and home but if you have allergies beware.

  • 1 of 5

The design and decor are beautiful no issues with that. The location is stunning but do not go during hunting season as the barrage of gunfire will have you awake before 7 am. The interior of the home is very dark and could use additional lighting. There is a layer of grime in the kitchen and the shower is grungy and has mold. For someone who has allergies to dust mites and mold you might want to look elsewhere. The furnishings are comfortable and appropriate for this setting. There are no screens on the windows so opening windows for fresh air or cooling will allow insects to enter. We arrived to find dead and not so dead flies everywhere probably due to the previous renters leaving the windows open during the 90 degree heat wave the week before. The home is beautiful and so is the setting. Some will undoubtedly find it wonderful; as for us, we will not return nor recommend it.

Owner's Response: David, I want to thank you for choosing our cabin for your trip, we really appreciate all of our renters taking the time to give our cabin a visit! We strive to make your stay as comfortable and relaxing as possible, and have not had these types of issues with any of our renters in the past. But if you inform us of a problem while your staying at our cabin, we will send someone out promptly to take care of any of your needs. This is something that can be verified with previous renters. Unfortunately without being informed of any problems until after your stay, there is nothing we can do to help. Our family made a special visit to the cabin promptly after your stay due to the problems you were having, and were unable to find any of these issues. We fully understand your review due to your displeasure, and again we would like to thank you for choosing our cabin for your vacation rental. We really wish we were given the opportunity to send someone out to help you. Just know if you ever decide to give us a try again, we are here to make your stay as great as possible! Thanks Scott and Amy

Beautiful, secluded cabin away from the world!

  • 5 of 5

This is a very nice cabin with a lot of character. The views from the front porch are magnificent and East lake was awesome to row boat and kayak on. The cabin is roomy and very comfortable. The kitchen is nice and offers everything you would ever need to cook/bake etc. The owners (Swansons) are great! They made sure we were satisfied with our trip and were always available to contact. If you are looking for a cabin tucked in nature and away from the world, this is the place for you! The only down side may be the 8 miles of dirt road to get to the property. This is easily forgotten once you pull into the property and take in the stunning view!

Beautiful secluded cabin getaway!!

  • 5 of 5

Only 30 minutes from St. Ignace, this cabin is wonderfully decorated. On beautiful, uncrowded East Lake. The use of the kayaks, canoe and rowboat were what drew us to this cabin. Plenty of room for 8 people. We like the new couch!! This was our second year and we plan on making it an annual trip. Did not want to leave!! Thank you, Swanson Family for sharing your wonderful cabin.

Exceeded my expectations!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is just lovely. There was plenty of space and the kitchen was well stocked with serving accoutrements, pots and pans. I recommend bringing your food because it's a good 20-30 minutes to the nearest general store. The fishing was good from the shore, but even better in the row boat, just beyond the reeds. We caught many perch.

We have great memories from our stay in this little cabin in the woods.
