This is not your ordinary vacation rental. If you need to be on the phone or the computer, this is not the place for you. We do provide a TV for watching movies. Twenty miles north of the Mackinaw Bridge, we are in the middle of the Hiawatha National Forest on a small inland lake. Yet we are close enough to freeway and local attractions, to return to civilization whenever the mood strikes.
The lake is a shallow lake good for kayaking,(3 kayaks are included as is a rowboat), canoeing, and fishing. We are surrounded by forest and wildlife. It is not uncommon to see wolves, bears, and on a rare occasion moose.
The lake has 3 pair of nesting loons, that fill the air with the pristine sound of nature. Great spot for birding. If you love birds you will be in paradise. Eagles, hummingbirds, pileated woodpeckers, kingfishers, warblers, more types of water fowl than I can list here.
North Country Trail traverses the area and is excellent for hiking. ATV trails are also near by. If you enjoy biking cross country, you will love it here.
Lake Michigan Beach off US-2 is about 20 minutes away, if you want to enjoy swimming on a beautiful sandy shoreline. Tacquamenon Falls are about a hour north, as is Whitefish Point. The ferry to Mackinaw Island is a half an hour south. Sault Ste. Marie and the Soo Locks, are 45 min. northeast.
This is the place to really escape. Easy access on good roads. Very few houses on this thousand acre lake, as 75% of the shoreline is owned by the national forest.

Beautiful cabin. It was spotless when we arrived. We were surprised to have close neighbors. Luckily they were not around all week. The lake is very shallow. Had to really search for deeper waters to fish. But we had some fishing success.
Although the pictures are lovely, they do not tell the entire story of just how beautiful the cabin and location are. My husband and I came to hike and we did ~ we also spent alot more time at the cabin than we had planned on because it is truly a peaceful place. Our six day stay went WAY to fast! We hiked the North Country National Trail at five different locations, all within an hour or less from the cabin. One day we fished and caught enough yellow perch for dinner. We were lucky with weather & our experience with Amy was very pleasant. All the time were were at the cabin and the day on the lake we saw NO other people ~ for us it was PERFECT! THANKS Amy!
I cannot even begin to tell you how beautiful and secluded this cabin is. We had a fantastic week in the UP. The cabin is full of everything you need for a relaxing vacation. Just bring your clothes, food & fishing poles. Can't wait to come back! Thanks so much!
Great vacation at a beautiful cabin. We were content to never leave (except to run to Moran for firewood!) great place for family to connect without internet, phone & tv. We loved the lake - kayaks were great for exploring the small little islands. My favorite part was watching the birds and listening to the loons. Saw a bear coming back to the cabin one night - heard elk, a wolf and eagles were frequent visitors to the small islands. Amazing place and Amy was so helpful and great to work with. Will definitely be back!!! The cabin was everything and more than we expected - pictures don't show how beautiful it really is.
This cabin has everything we were looking for! My husband and I totally enjoyed being without cell phone service (although there was limited service, we told everyone we were unavailable!) We watched movies, made a jigsaw puzzle, kayaked, sat on the porch and enjoyed the lovely view of the lake and watched birds. We slept late, read books and grilled some delicious dinners. The owners have supplied this cabin with super appliances... stove, washer, dryer... and all the extras one could ask for! And the location was great for day trips. We went to Mackinac Island one day, but I must admit, I just wanted to get out of the busy life and back to the quiet life of the lake! Thanks to the owners for sharing a great vacation home!
My husband and I went to the Log Cabin in the UP for our first vacation without kids in 19 years. We expected this location to be our "home base" for day trips. When we arrived, the place was beautiful, quiet, clean and very cozy.
The pair of hummingbirds were amazing to watch, the lake was quiet and the area was beautiful. We stayed at the cabin more than we thought we would. It was a great retreat for us. We read, even put together a jigsaw puzzle - very relaxing.
We thought we would only last two or three days without the hustle and bustle of normal life, but this location proved to be exactly what we both needed to rest and to slow down and take in nature. We only wish our teenage kids would have joined us - they would have loved it.
We've recommended this location to many of our family and friends. Thank you for sharing your home with us.
