About Virginia Hughes

Having lived in Santa Fe for five years full time, my husband and I still visit frequently and were thrilled to be able to purchase Casa de Alma. Although we live in Texas we are able to manage our property with the help of trusted caregivers.

Virginia Hughes purchased this house in 2013

Why Virginia Hughes chose Historic Eastside

This prestigious area of Santa Fe is close to Canyon Road and the Plaza, within walking distance of both. Additionally the historic East Side is a wonderful area to walk and view the architecturally significant homes in the area. Leafy and an easy walk, the nearby Acequia Madre is a beautiful walking area. Located on a quiet dead-end street, Casa de Alma is the perfect getaway in Santa Fe.

Una Casa de Alma encantada!

  • 5 of 5

My family of 4 adults & 2 "tweens" enjoyed immensely this exquisitely decorated & fully equipped adobe home located comfortably within walking distance of Canyon Road, the historic plaza and a tandem bookstore - coffee house. Our thanks to the owners, for sharing what is obviously a much-loved home reflecting the cultural character of Santa Fe.

Perfect retreat house for gals trip to Santa Fe

  • 5 of 5

Casa de Alma was the perfect setting for a ladies spa/yoga/retreat experience with it's central location to Canyon Road and historical downtown. Spending time each morning in the backyard garden area with tea, coffee and ipad, we made plans for yoga classes, spa time and shopping, of course. Because the home is spacious, we often put together appetizers and evening cocktails before strolling to town for dinner and music. The home is beautifully appointed with large beds for couples or two person sleeping.

I cannot say enough good things about the furnishings which give a real quality feeling to the dwelling. I would give location, comfort and privacy 5 stars on this choice for our 2017 Retreat.

Amazing authentic adobe home in a perfect location

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed in 20+ vacation rentals and this is one of the best - we would definitely return! Virginia was very friendly. The location is super convenient, maybe 5-10 min to the Plaza. We were three couples traveling with toddlers in tow and the space was great for us. The decor is very authentic and offers a true sense of place, definitely a luxury feel. Loved the wood beams, kiva fireplace, and antique door headboard in the master. The enclosed outdoor patio was a popular spot for the toddlers to run around. The things that could be improved would be adding a wifi extender to enable a strong signal throughout the home (it was hard to get a strong signal outside the kitchen) and perhaps replacing the tube TV with a more modern model. We also went to the ABQ balloon fiesta one day (which was awesome) and it was relatively easy ~1hr each way. 10am felt a little early for check out, but there was another party arriving later that afternoon and it takes 6-8 hours to turnover. Best restaurants were The Pantry, Maria's, and Pasqual's. Intl Folk Art Museum and the Plaza were also highlights.

What a find!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 plus a friend (that's 4 teenagers!) had the pleasure of staying at this lovely property for spring break. It is a true slice of Santa Fe - beautifully decorated and lovingly cared for, down to the tiniest detail. Little things like an abundance of thick, designer towels in each bathroom, incredibly comfortable beds and gorgeous light pouring through the windows and skylights. It was spacious yet cozy, and the location was excellent. Will definitely stay here again! We usually stay at the Inn at Loretto, and this was much more luxurious at a better price!

Perfect Week at Casa de Alma

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four and grandmother spent a week at Casa de Alma. It was a fabulous set-up for us; the home is beautifully designed, in a lovely neighborhood, and provides for easy walking to Canyon Road and beyond. The home is well maintained and we were all very comfortable. It was a long-time dream of grandmother's to visit Santa Fe and Casa de Alma provided us with the perfect home base as we explored the city and other New Mexico sites.

Car: not necessary

Casa de Alma is located is the most prestigious historic area of Santa Fe. It is surrounded by beautiful adobe homes, many that date over a hundred years. Walk the lovely tree-lined streets still constructed of dirt and feel as if you were in Old Mexico. The many art galleries of Canyon Road are within two blocks and the historic Santa Fe Plaza is a 15-minute walk. At any time of year, enjoy the fine shopping, fabulous world-class restaurants, museums, and historic attractions of the Southwest. For outdoor enthusiasts, spring and summer offer hiking, biking, fishing, white-water rafting, mountain climbing and golf, all nearby. Visit in the winter for the best of the winter sports such as downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding and snowmobiling, in Santa Fe and nearby Taos.

Other Activities: shopping, art galleries
