The Isle of Palms, like all barrier islands, has a dynamic beach near the inlet that separates the island from Dewees Island. The ebb and flow of the changing tides, through the inlet, creates and moves sand bars just off shore. These sandbars will channel waves between them, resulting in the massive buildup of sand along portions of the island where other areas may develop temporary erosional hot spots. These hot spots will feature a sand beach throughout the day outside an hour or so before and after high tide. Where a dry sand beach may be limited in these few areas at high tide, walking either direction will lead to an area where the sandbars have created an expansive beach to enjoy at any tide.

A true South Carolinian, Marcia is from Greenville SC and has been in the Charleston area for over 25 years! She began hospitality right out of college as the Front Desk night manager at the Waccamaw House in Litchfield, SC. She and her late husband, John, ran Sewee Coastal Methodist Retreat Center in Awendaw, on the Intercoastal waterway while raising their four children. Marcia joined the Beachside Team 2012.
1. Enjoys the peace and moss draped serenity of the walking trails in Palmetto Islands County Park. Palmetto Islands County Park is located in Mt. Pleasant and also offers the areas only water park in addition to miles of walking trails. 843-406-6950.
2. Walking the beach from Breaches’ Inlet to the opposite end of Sullivan’s Island at Charleston Harbor.
3. Sunset cruise on the Palmetto Breeze. The Palmetto Breeze is the ultimate sailing catamaran docked in Shem Creek. They offer dolphin sails, tours of the historic Charleston Harbor and sunset sails. 843-886-8133.
4. Kayaking the salt marshes and back creeks of the Intercoastal waterway . Coastal Expeditions offers tours from Isle of Palms Marina and Shem Creek 843-886-9590.

We enjoyed our stay at 23 Beachwood West and would come back again. The kitchen was well stocked and the beds comfortable. It was easy access to the beach and minutes drive to the Grand Pavilion area. We had a little ant problem so had to be careful not leaving
any food out. The staff were responsive to our requests.
We enjoyed our stay at 23 Beachwood West for 4 nights in April 2016. The location is just a short walk to the beach and the pool(s). We had a coffee pot that would not work properly upon arrival, but with one phone call, they showed up with a replacement coffee pot as soon as possible. The house was clean, rooms were comfortable and were accurately depicted in the pictures provided. Plenty of living, leisure space along with a large kitchen, which worked out well for our large family.
We stayed for 4 nights in April 2016 and really enjoyed the property. It was clean, comfortable and had plenty of room to stretch out and relax. The location is only a short walk from the beach and the pool(s) and the surrounding properties are all very quiet and well maintained.
The pictures are all very accurate depictions of the property and its rooms and the maintenance staff responded very quickly to the only issue we encountered, which was a faulty coffee pot. They showed up the next morning with a replacement with no questions asked.

Our family so enjoyed our visit in this great home. Wonderful layout for families. Den and kitchen with back rooms able to shut off for sleeping babies while the adults enjoy visiting. We really liked having two master bedrooms with each having a bathroom. Two other bedrooms share a bathroom. Great screened porch with a hammock that was everyone's favorite. Just a short walk to the beach for my children and their little ones. We even had afternoon visitors- three beautiful deer. A great place to spend a week at the beach!!
We very much enjoyed this very comfortable house. A short safe walk to the beach especially for young children. A good lay out with bedrooms away from nice screen porch. Also a short walk to the boardwalk for entertainment.
Nice open floor plan with updated kitchen appliances and counter. Kitchen was VERY well stocked with utensils, small appliances, etc. Bedroom configuration (2K, 4T) and 3 full baths worked great for our group of 6 women. Also liked the dining table (large enough for 8) and the screened in porch. Only thing we would have changed was putting the washer/dryer inside the house (maybe a stackable?).
Access to the beach is an easy 2 minute walk, and we deemed it the best part of the beach - easy to walk a mile+ in either direction, but away from crowds.
We booked through Beachside Vacations, and they were very easy to work with, and addressed the one issue we had (they found us a grill that same day!)
This was our first visit to IOP, but won't be our last - easy to get to, great beaches, lots of things to see and do on the island, on nearby islands, and in Charleston. About the only thing we did not take advantage of were the amenities within Wild Dunes itself.
