Situated on a lush hillside among olive groves and vineyards, Chateau de Villedieu is a refurbished twelfth century Knights Templar fort that offers breathtaking panoramas of the northern Provencal countryside. The village of Villedieu has a small shop, caf and restaurant and is a five minute walk from the villa. Restored by the current owners, the interior offers luxury with history as well as spacious rooms, which are cool in summer and can be warmed during the winter by log fires.
The large swimming pool, tennis court, ping pong table and indoor gymnasium offer the opportunity for exercise at home, while the surrounding area is ideal for hiking and cycling. Mont Ventoux and Les Dentelles de Montmirail are within easy reach for those who like a challenge. With its summer kitchen and barbeque pavilion, the grounds also feature a quaint dining area shaded by vines that cast chiaroscuro patterns. Indoors, you will find a home entertainment system with satellite TV and iPod dock, an office, Wi-Fi access, a library and games. Housekeeping is included with your reservation.
While the exterior stone walls of Chateau de Villedieu tell the tale of an era gone by, the sheer stateliness of the modern interiors belie the history of this residence. The plush living room couches center around the fireplace and spread into an additional lounge area. The stone staircase incorporated into the interior design remains one of the few clues regarding the back-story of this villa.
Eight exquisite bedrooms and ten bathrooms accommodate up to sixteen guests at Chateau de Villedieu. All of the bedrooms include en-suite bathrooms. Fine linens and accoutrements provide a comfortable night of rest during your lavender filled evenings in Provence.
There is an equestrian centre just ten minutes away from Chateau de Villedieu and, a little further away, the Ardeche Gorge offers wonderful canoeing and kayaking. For oenophiles, there are many opportunities for wine tasting in the local vineyards of the Rhone valley. The historic Roman town of Vaison La Romaine is just to the southeast and offers gourmet dining, excellent shopping, a weekly market and a full program of cultural events during the summer months.

This was a perfect villa for 16 people since each room has an en suite bathroom. The principal rooms are lovely as well. The nearby village is walking distance. Although there is no bakery, there are a couple of nice restaurants where you can eat in a square. There are many, many lovely towns near this villa. The pool is not heated by solar or propane and is freezing cold. The kitchen stove didn't work well at all and it made it difficult to cook for 16 people. There is a couple who live next door who are the property managers. You need to be comfortable with their comings and goings in the house, unannounced. They are nice people. I would return to this villa but insist that the kitchen is better set up-upgraded appliances, sharp knives etc. if you don't cook it's not an issue but for us we are a group of cooks.
We enjoyed our stay at this lovely chateau! Beautiful countryside, luxurious accommodations, this was a dream trip!
The villa is very nicely decorated and renovated. Every part of the house feels well taken care of. Everything you can think of that you would need you can find in the villa.
The views and the garden are beautiful and the villages around the villa are very nice. It is a bit windy during early summer. A lunch at the square in Villedieu is a must.
This home exceeded our expectations. It was beautiful and spacious for all of our
16 family members. The outdoor settings provided nightly opportunities for dining and
dancing and watching the sun set in the west. Louise and Andrew were so delightful and
gracious and made our stay at Aqua Vita even more special. Louise cooked our Friday evening dinner and it enchanted us all. It was a wonderfully memorable vacation week.
The Villa was better than expected. My support people in every phase of the trip were great. The Chef's dinner was delicious. A trip of a lifetime.
The house exceeded our already high expectations. The house is elegant without being overly formal and is large enough to soak up 16 people with room to spare. Tony and Teresa were wonderful helpers and gave great advice on the area. This part of Provence is beautiful and richly diverse, and a magnet for anyone interested in wines from the Southern Rhone.
