Amazing house and great location

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have asked for more. House had everything and was perfect for a large group. It was clean and so organized. Kids had a blast. I felt bad for Melissa next door as we were a little loud but wrapped it up at a decent hour. Thank you so much! We had the best weekend....

Nice house, friendly owner. But the property manager who is the host was miserable.

  • 1 of 5

The owner Gil was very well behaved, and treated us nice. However the manager who was the host of the house was extremely rude and ill behaved. We had an entire family of 8 people including senior citizens and requested for an half an hour to an hours delay at max, and when we requested for a late check out in advance, she not only just denied but just made remarks which were derogatory and offensive. On the second night of our stay when we were having a barbeque at the backyard she frowned and said that noone does barbeque there.. well there was a flood light and looked like a complete barbeque set up and if we werent supposed to do it there then she should have explicitly mentioned about it before hand, which she didnt.

The house was great and very well located and talking to the owner was quite a pleasant experience, but our weekend get away would have been sweet with someone with a decent behavior.

Huge house with room to s-p-r-e-a-d out!

  • 4 of 5

We finally found a property where our two families could spread out and be comfortable (even without renting the 3rd floor). My family of 4 split the house with another family of 5 (so we had five kids ages 4-7). We had plenty of rooms and still had two bedrooms to spare. We easily could have rented this with a third family. I love that we could all sleep up on the 2nd floor so no one was stuck sleeping in a musty basement bedroom, which has been the case at other rental properties. Also loved the two full baths so we could be bathing our kids while our friends bathed theirs. Key after a long day at the parks! Parents and kids all had fun in the pool table room. All 5 kids loved sleeping together in the bunk room. They even had their own TV with lots of kids videos to choose from. The adults all loved having a king bed (three king bedrooms!). The kitchen is well stocked with utensils (although the knives are very dull) and pots and pans. There were tons of towels, sheets, and blankets that were found in a closet with labeled shelves to easily find what you're looking for (you do need to make up the beds with the provided clean sheets upon arrival).

There are some things to point out to potential renters and/or the owner: There are light blocking shades on all bedroom windows except the most important room ... the bunk room! The kids were up at 6 AM each morning because they thought it was midday. Shades on those windows would be a huge help to keep exhausted kids sleeping longer. There is a grill on site, but it's charcoal and you are expected to bring your own charcoal and to empty it out when you leave. We brought burgers but that was too much of a hassle, so we never cooked them. Even a cheap gas grill on site would be helpful. The plates in the cabinet were put away dirty. Something the cleaners should be aware of in case they mistakingly assumed the previous renters ran off the dishwasher when they found dishes in the dishwasher and put them away. Communication with Melissa is a little tough. She is very busy working two jobs, so if you email her before your stay, you likely won't get a response until close to midnight, but she always did respond back. That made me a little nervous when booking, but everything worked out fine. Also this is an old house, so the floors are unlevel and warped in a lot of areas ... something to be aware of if renting with small children or anyone elderly. Lastly, there were carpenter ants in the kitchen.

Lots of space, great location, well-provisioned, great management

  • 4 of 5

We really appreciated the quick responses and easy coordination with both the owner and the property manager. They were both very helpful.

The house is huge - we didn't come anywhere near to filling it with 12 people - and it was an unusual and pleasant bonus that there is enough dining table space (with a huge table in the kitchen and another in the dining room) for everyone to eat meals around a table. We easily fit 12 around one table with the second table to spare. There are plenty of linens, dishes, etc. to accommodate many guests.

We had 6 young children with us, and had no trouble keeping them all safe and happy in the house. However, most of ours were old enough to understand safety rules. There are some quirks of the old house that would not be ideal for toddlers. (An easily-accessible steep staircase with poor railings, raised bricks around the fireplace and wood stove, slightly raised wood on the floor in the doorways.) There's also no way to "close off" the 2nd floor bunkbed room from the first floor (there's a big open interior window), so noise could be an issue if kids go to bed long before adults. The bunkbeds did have bed guards, and we felt safe with little kids using the top bunks.

We completely enjoyed our stay and would consider staying here again.

Hope to make it an annual trip!

  • 5 of 5

We just got home and had to write a review. Our friend found this gem for her husband (an our great friend's bday) It accommodated lots of friends and the kids loved it. Didn't realize until we got there, how close it was to all the great places North Conway has to offer! Will certainly look to come back!

Our Family getaway vacation

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed at Mt Vale Inn . My daughter in law found this rental online and we all had a great time staying here! Kids were able to play outside and there was plenty of room inside the house. We also got the chance to meet Melissa's dog, Charlie. He is a very friendly dog.The kids loved playing with him outside. We all enjoyed his company. My husband loved cooking but he seems to think maybe the pans for cooking should be updated for the kind of stove that is there! Everything else was perfect having all the dishes and silverware to use. We loved the fact of being able to cook all of our meals here. We are definitely thinking or returning next year for our whole family vacation getaway! Possibly renting out all of the bedrooms for the extra private getaway on the 3rd floor.
