Quiet

Place was charming! On a nice piece of wooded land. House is at the end of a quiet cul de sac with ample space in between properties. Really felt private and out of the way. The property is part of Eagle Ridge, so you pass the golf courses to get in and out. Loved the fireplace. No need for a starter log as previous reviewer suggested. Just have some crumpled newspaper and collect some nice dry twigs for kindling from outside and you'll be good to go. The fires we made were roaring, beautiful, and very warm. They provide loads of firewood to use.

The air was so fresh that we slept like babies.

The downside for us and why not 5 stars: Unfortunately, one of the reasons we rented the place was to enjoy the beauty, the hot tub, the fireplace, and to GRILL. We don't have a grill in the city where we live and were so looking forward to staying in, relaxing and grilling. We didn't want to go out every evening and drive the 6.5 miles into town for a meal. We went out and bought a nice amount of local stuff supporting the Galena economy to find the grill running out of propane just shortly into cooking. We tried to salvage the meal, but the stove is electric and not one pan in the house is non-stick (cooks--bring a couple non-stick pans or don't bother trying to make food without grilling). Everything stuck and the pans were almost impossible to clean. Had to soak some of them for three days to be able to clean them. Yeah. :(

When the grill died wE called the rental company but it was closed. We did get a callback, but were hoping there was another tank we could replace the empty one with--no dice. They were friendly and heard our disappointment, but did nothing to amend the situation. We had hoped for some courtesy discount given that the grill is part of the rental and that we wasted money and food. Alas, the best they seemed to be able to do was offer to bring another tank, but at that point...starving, to wait another hour for them to come wasn't an option. We just ate out.

We would like to suggest that the propane tank is checked (especially in September) and consider having a replacement tank on the property to avoid another renter from wasting money, time, etc.

The place is perfect for one or two couples. Lots of board games in the basement, a foosball table, and a ping pong table. But mainly we sat out on the deck reading facing the sun and trees and enjoyed the sounds of nature.

Hope this review was helpful.

Could not have been more perfect for us!

  • 5 of 5

We needed a place to enjoy being away from it all and surrounded by natural beauty, especially after surviving the Siberian Winter we had just experienced. It was perfect for us and our dogs. The home was so peaceful and quiet and we spent many hours gazing off the deck and even came face to face with a hummingbird. We saw so many birds that you don't see often unless you are in the deep woods. Also the home was very clean and we used the fireplace in the evenings as well as the wonderful hot tub. It was the perfect place to adventure from and so many sites to see besides the beautiful town of Galena. I couldn't recommend it more highly and hope to come back next year.

Awesome place to get away to!!

  • 5 of 5

Awesome place to stay! Very clean and well maintained. It was really relaxing and even being two hours away from the Chicago area it feels like your in another state. Great area close to downtown and fishing lake. It's quiet and peaceful with beautiful views and private hot tub. Very nice locals and wonderful community. My 5 year old really enjoys going out there and after two visits we will definantly going back more!! Nice way to get away with a short travel and having a nice quiet relaxing time with the family! Highly recommend!!

Great property and great deal

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this property this past weekend. It was a perfect birthday getaway! They really thought of everything. We loved the fireplace and the hot tub. We wish that there was a blower on the fireplace though because it didn't really give off much heat. It was more for appearance. I would also recommend that you bring a starter log with you. The wood didn't really want to burn all that well.

Lotta bang for you buck

I don't usually write reviews, but this was such a nice place at a great price I felt compelled to leave a review. Place is clean, well maintained, spacious. The view out the back of the house from upstairs or the hot tub is beautiful. I would imagine in the fall that has to be stunning. They have wireless Internet access. House is located on dead end street. The bed had an awesome mattress which is usually a weakness in rentals.

I usually don't stay at the same place twice and have rented several houses in IL, MI, and WI, but I could see myself returning to this one.

The only thing that I didn't like, which I already pointed out to management is the sliding glass door to the hot tub is very difficult to open. Hopefully that will be resolved shortly. It would have been 5 star if that door worked better.

Owner's Response: We are very pleased to hear you enjoyed the home and hopefully you will be able to return in the future. The old sliding glass doors have been replaced and the new doors are working great! Thanks Again!
