Hi I'm Joy, a surfer, yogini and owner of Barefoot Adventures. I moved to Rincon in 2010 and enjoy renting out my home as well as running surf, yoga and wellness retreats. My husband and I have traveled all over the island on many adventures and love sharing our knowledge on places to go and things to do. I run the beachfront yoga studio a few minute drive from the house and he is a local shaper who has a surf shop next to the studio. We hope to welcome you soon for some R&R or fun in the sun.
Joy Salvo purchased this apartment in 2012
The Barefoot Guest House is an ideal vacation rental located on a quiet, dead end street in the exclusive neighborhood of Ensenada, conveniently located near the best swimming beaches and town center of Rincon, PR. Our street is reminiscent of American suburbs with big, sprawling front yards where the ice cream truck goes by daily and kids play in the street. There is no through traffic, however, we are just off the main road 413 otherwise known as 'The Road to Happiness'.
You will enjoy the indoor space as much as you'll like hanging out on the wrap-a-round porch and large deck. Whether you enjoy a cup of coffee at sunrise or fall asleep peacefully listening to the coqui's, you will be surrounded by the sounds of nature.
We had an excellent stay and would definitely consider staying here again next time we are in Rincon. The apartment is very clean, very spacious, and in a great location a short drive from town and some of our favorite beaches. There is a good selection of TV channels for the evening and a nice patio with a view. Our host, Joy, was very nice and helpful and right downstairs if you need her. The property and neighborhood are on a side street and so pretty quiet, which we appreciated for a relaxing, low-key, low-stress weekend away from home.
We really enjoyed our stay at Barefoot. Joy and Matt were very friendly and their place provided everything that we needed, from kitchen utensils to beach gear. The ac's were cool at night and the neighborhood is extremely quiet. Literally a 2 minute drive to the beach and well known restaurants. We accommodated 4 adults and 3 kids with no problem.
My husband and I recently traveled to Rincon for his 30th birthday celebration. We had friends from all over the country meet us there and Joy and Matt's home was the perfect getaway for us to spend quality time together. We stayed in the upper portion of the house which was fully equipped with everything we could need. The patio was a perfect place to enjoy morning coffee with an ocean view and was extremely spacious. There were 6 people in our group and we all slept comfortably. Centralized heat and air is hard to come by in local homes/restaurants in Rincon, but the AC units in the bedrooms kept the rooms icy cold. The rooms and bathroom were clean and welcoming upon our arrival. Bath towels and beach towels were provided as well as an assortment of toiletries and medicines in case we needed them. Joy was also very helpful in lending us nice chairs and coolers for the beach. She offers yoga classes and her husband Matt offers surf lessons. Unfortunately we were not able to surf due to the large waves while we were there (but it certainly gives us more reason to return!). We arrived on Thursday and went to the local art fair in the plaza and enjoyed some drinks at the Rincon Beer Company. Friday we enjoyed breakfast at The English Rose (the drive up the hill is SO worth the view). Later we ventured to multiple beaches close by and spent the day in Bocqueron which did not take us long at all to get to. That night we went to Taboo which was on "The Other Side" of Rincon and a 5 minute drive from the house. Saturday we had breakfast at Casa Islena and spent the entire day on the beach outside of Taboo. That night we dined at Flamboyan per Joy's recommendation to try the whole Red Snapper and Mofungo and were not disappointed. Best food we had in PR! All in all we had the best time and will absolutely return to stay with our wonderful hosts. They were always available to us and were happy to give recommendations on what to do and what to eat. I HIGHLY recommend booking your next visit with them!
The apartment was perfect for our four-day trip to Puerto Rico for a friend's wedding which was being held nearby.
We didn't want to hire a car for such a short time, and were very pleased to find that we didn't really need one - the apartment is a short ten-minute walk to several beaches where there were plenty of options for lunches, dinners and drinks.
The apartment was clean and comfortable and very spacious for the three of us, with plenty of terrace space etc.
It was a little noisy, owing to trucks thundering past, and some downstairs neighbors, who chatted loudly in the garden early on several mornings.
The apartment also lacks mirrors - there is no full-length mirror, and only one mirror at all, in the bathroom. Of course, not all guests will be getting ready for weddings and parties throughout their trip, but another couple of mirrors would be handy.
This place was totally perfect. I've stayed in a few different places over the years and this was the best by far. Centrally located, close enough for an ambitious walk to town, coffee, food trucks, Steps Beach, The Black Eagle, and The English Rose are just down the road and it's a quick drive to just about everywhere else you'd wanna go in Rincon. The neighborhood was great complete with the cutest dogs ever;) The house itself has plenty of open space, complete with anything you need for your stay, towels, beach chairs, coffee maker, dishes etc. There's a nice place to sit outside in the sunshine and eat breakfast or grill dinner. The apt. was adorable, clean and really comfortable and homey. The owners Joy and Matt were so welcoming and talented. Joy has an amazing oceanside outdoor yoga studio under the trees. We took two blissful classes with her and Hank that were relaxing and invigorating! I took a surf lesson with Matt that was sooo much fun I can't wait get in the water again!! I would definitely stay here again and again!
