Overview

About the property

As Close as You Can Get to U.S. Capital

If you want to tour DC by bicycle there is a rental station 1/2 block from this vacation rental, which is only 3 blocks from the US Capitol and the beginning of the National Mall.

The Flat at Library Court is a row house in the historic district with a completely renovated interior and all new furnishings decorated with Washington D.C. flair. You’ll enjoy expansive views of the stately Library of Congress, which is directly across the street. The house backs to Library Court, a 300 year old historic cobblestone street built in the days of horse-drawn buggies.

Why you can’t beat our location: Capitol Hill is a historic residential neighborhood that stretches from the U.S. Capitol, and Pennsylvania Ave, the main corridor, emanates from the Capitol beginning at 2nd Street. We are one block away on 3rd St – the first residential block from the Capitol. The further you get (4th Street, 5th, 6th and so on), the less desirable and less safe the areas become, and the longer your walk to the sites. This is truly as good and as close as it gets! Don’t talk yourself into staying blocks away…

• 1 Block or Less: U.S. Supreme Court, Library of Congress (across the street), Folger (Shakespeare) Theatre

• Within 2 to 3 blocks: U.S. Capitol, U.S. Capitol Visitor Center, Cannon House Office Building, Capitol Mall, U.S. Botanical Garden, South Capital Metro station.

• Tour Bus: The Circulator Tour Bus picks up one block away but most of what you’ll want to see is within a short walk.

• Dining 1 Block or Less: We the Pizza; Good Stuff Eatery (President Obama’s favorite hamburger), Cosi (sandwiches, soups and salads), Starbucks, Sonoma Restaurant and Wine Bar, Hunan Dynasty, Hawk N Dove; Capitol Hill Liquor and Deli

• Stores 1-2 Blocks: Corner Market Grocery Store, Grubb’s Care Pharmacy, Gandel’s Liquor, Riverby Books.

The Penthouse Apartment

Up a flight of stairs, you will enter the Penthouse Apartment of the Flat at Library Court. This two story unit has 3 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and expansive views of the stately Library of Congress. The kitchen is fully stocked and the unit has wi-fi, cable TV and central air conditioning/heat.

DESCRIPTION OF NEIGHBORHOOD:

Capitol Hill is the largest historic residential neighborhood in Washington D.C., stretching easterly in front of the United States Capitol along wide avenues. It is one of the oldest residential communities in Washington D.C.

As a geographic feature, Capitol Hill rises near the center of the District of Columbia and extends eastward. The Capitol Hill neighborhood today straddles two quadrants of the city, Southeast and Northeast, and a large portion is now designated as the Capitol Hill historic district. The name Capitol Hill is often used to refer to both the historic district and to the larger neighborhood around it.

Capitol Hill's landmarks include not only the United States Capitol, but also the Senate and House office buildings, the Supreme Court building, the Library of Congress, the Marine Barracks, the Washington Navy Yard, and Congressional Cemetery.

The main non-residential corridor of Capitol Hill is Pennsylvania Avenue, a lively commercial street with shops, restaurants and bars. Eastern Market is an 1873 public market on 7th Street SE, where vendors sell fresh meat and produce in indoor stalls and at outdoor farmers' stands. It is also the site of an outdoor flea market every weekend.

If available, we can provide parking for 1 vehicle at Union Station which is 5 blocks from this rental.

Please check our other properties at 913567, 3526541 & 4015008 in Capitol Hill with homeaway.com.If you have a question about our rental please don't hesitate to call Bob Finn at 623-297-8193. I sometimes call the person inquiring about our rental, but am finding that lots of people don't answer their phones these days. I find that it is some times easier to communicate in a phone conversation then it is by email. We want to make sure there is no misunderstanding about the location of our rentals and it amenities. Parking is limited in DC so if you are driving to DC you might want to talk with Bob about some parking solutions.

Great location in Captiol Hill!!!

  • 5 of 5

This place was perfect for our family of 7! Two couples and 3 teenagers. Two of the bedrooms have king size beds so more than enough room for all of us. Newly renovated, very clean and quiet. Location was great...right behind the Library of Congress. Within walking distance to many restaurants and bars. Owner provided amenities like coffee, laundry soap, bath soap and shampoo which is not typical in most places. The owner was very responsive and helpful. They allowed us to leave our bags and pick-up later which gave us time to enjoy a few more sites. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking to stay in the DC area.

Perfect location, pleasant home

  • 5 of 5

There couldn't be a better location in DC! The neighborhood was safe and attractive. The home was pleasant and comfortable for our family of 5 adults. The kitchen was well equipped and all of the amenities met our expectations. We got Safeway delivery the first night which was perfect.. Bob was very responsive and helpful. The perfect family accommodation for a visit to the nation's Capitol.

Lovely, quite two story apartment close to Capitol

  • 4 of 5

I booked this large 3 bedroom 2 story apartment for a conference at the Hyatt Regency by the Capitol. I had two international co-presenters coming, so this seemed like a good place to stay where we could relax and all be together. Nicer being able to fix own breakfasts and dinners.

However there are a few drawbacks. We couldn't find any grocery store in neighborhood except one convenience store that opened late and only had eggs and milk-no cereal or fresh produce. Should have ordered Safeway to deliver as suggested by the owner. Walking left to corner, there is corner deli with morning goodies including yogurt and fresh croissants.

The owner, Bob Finn, was very helpful sending tons of information about where to find things in the apartment, etc., but be sure to download to laptop, I Pad or print all of this out and take with you as there are no instructions in the binder in the dining room--only pictures of the extensive renovation. actually lives in Phoenix so when we arrived late from Dulles at 2 am, we couldn't call him about fact there was a loud buzzing. Finally my husband found it was the washing machine so he just disconnected it.

Also this apartment is not for anyone mobility challenged as you have to go up steep narrow stairs to second floor of building to get to the apartment and another set to get to second floor of the apartment with the second and third bedrooms.

On the plus side the apartment was amazingly quite for being so close to downtown. There was only one evening late when the wind must have changed and the planes from National were flying over the Capitol area or sounded like it. Having lived in DC I knew that they had to stop by 11 pm and they did. Beds are very comfortable. The bathtub in Master Bedroom can be slippery so I put a wash cloth down as there are no places to hold on to. So a few amenities for mobility challenged would be a good idea.

Beautiful house in an ideal location

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful time in this home. The bedroom/bathroom layout gave everyone the privacy and space we needed. The house was very clean and well equipped with extra towels, and supplies. It was nice to have paper towels and dish soap which many other rentals do not provide. We mainly walked or took the Circulator bus everywhere. We arrived on a late Saturday and parked in front of the house, paid for 4 hours of parking ($9.20) and since Sunday is free, left the car there until Monday morning, then moved it to Union Station until we left. I highly recommend this place.
