Needed a place for a family of four for vacation, and this condo was perfect for us. Not far from the T; plenty of room; and had everything we needed. Only complaint (which the owner is aware) is the remote for one of the TVs appears to have gone on a walkabout. (My son needed a break from watching TV anyway)
As my daughter is currently studying for a year at university in Maine I went to stay with her for a month over the Christmas and New Year period. We were joined at different times by two of her university friends and the apartment was spacious enough for everyone, the three large bedrooms accommodated everyone and allowed me to escape and watch television of my choosing when 'Keeping |Up With the Kardashians' got too much.
The apartment was well equipped with the washing machine and dryer being especially useful for our lengthy stay. Although we did not have a hire car we were able to walk to local shops on Broadway in east Somerville and there was a large Stop and Shop supermarket also within walking distance. To get into the centre of Boston we used the orange T line from our local station at Sullivan Square, this was also a short distance from the apartment and a weekly ticket of around $21 for unlimited travel was very good value so we were able to easily visit a number of great attractions in the Boston area including the JFK museum, the Museum of Fine Arts, the Sky Walk in the Prudential Tower and the Waterfront area. (If you are visiting over the New Year period it is worth knowing that the T line is free between 8.00pm - 2.00am on New Year's eve and that the firework display in Copley Square was also free.)
We walked to Harvard University on a number of occasions and found it a very easy walk, right at the bottom of Florence Street and then virtually straight along Washington Street and Kirkland Street into the heart of the university area. Once there you are presented with a huge choice of things to see, several museums, some great independent shops such as the Harvard Book Store and a range of good places for food and drink. We particularly liked the John Harvard Brew House on Dunster Street and the Cambridge Common on Massachusetts Avenue, it doesn't look much from the outside but it has a very good draught beer selection and friendly staff.
If you do enjoy trying different beers this is a brilliant area to visit with so many local breweries within easy reach, my favourite was the Harpoon Brewery in Boston with a tour of the brewery for $5 including lots of samples of the brewery's beers.
Although Chris was not around during our visit he answered any queries we had promptly. I would definitely recommend this property to friends and family and would personally stay there again.
We stayed in the first floor condo of a 3-story older home with condos on each floor; the owner lives in a basement unit. The condo appeared to have been recently renovated and was very, very clean and spacious, well-maintained, lovely hardwood floors, nicely decorated with 3 bedrooms, a living room, kitchen and dining room, two bathrooms (one with a tub/shower, sink and toilet; a second with a shower and sink). There were lots of good quality towels. Most of the rooms had ceiling fans and wall air conditioner units, and the windows could be opened, so it was easy to keep the temperature comfortable (late June/early July). There was a lovely deck that we enjoyed sitting out on in the evenings, and you could catch some sun during the days. The kitchen was reasonably well stocked, although we would recommend adding salt/pepper shakers, placemats, tea towels and a paring knife. Free internet access was available, but we sometimes had problems with our connection. One parking pass was provided for street parking, and the owner was able to provide a solution for parking a second vehicle.
The house is located in a quiet, family oriented neighborhood, reasonably close to a main street and a highway access, and it was usually about a 15 minute drive to Harvard (one of our party was taking a course and had to go there on a daily basis). We tried out several of the local restaurants suggested by the owner, and they were good. The owner was accessible by phone, and very pleasant and helpful. We had a very enjoyable stay, and would definitely return.
Everything worked smoothly. The parking pass wasn't there when we arrived but Chris was prompt in getting it to us with no problem.
I would suggest a full length mirror somewhere in one of the bedrooms. There are really only two mirrors and both are small in the house.
We were there for a week enjoying the sites and having a great time at my daughters graduation at BU. Everything was comfortable for the six of us and the underground got us to where we needed to go. One thing I see missing in other reviews is the washer and dryer that came along with this unit, it was well needed and used. You don't get this in other rentals. If you come by air then the Under ground will get you to the Sullivan Station cheaply and fast!
Hats off to Chris, he answered our questions quickly and any issues were covered. Thanks again, would recommend for another stay.
The house was a convenient walking distance from the Subway Station. It was clean and well equipped. The only issues I had were:
The listing indicated that there were 2 bathrooms; I assumed that meant 2 toilets and there was only one toilet, which was a challenge for 6 people.
The listing showed pictures of 5 beds - 2 twins and 3 large beds pictured with different comforters. Even though the listing stated that there were 3 bedrooms, I assumed that one of the 3 larger beds must be in a study or something. That posed a problem when we got there and there were only 4 beds instead of the 5 pictured. If the same bed is posted twice in the listing (with 2 different comforters) that might need to be modified.
Other than that, the kitchen was large enough for 6 of us to gather for meals and we enjoyed our trip. Thank you.
