There were some very favorable characteristics about this cabin, but to be honest, I need to mention the downside as well, some which can be remedied by the owners for future renters. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and this cabin is in a great location to access many things. We rented a pontoon boat close by and spent 4 hours on the Nantahala River/Fontana Lake ( beautiful scenery) and went to Fontana Dam, Bryson City, and Clingmons Dome in the Smokies. The cabin has a nice game room that is well stocked. The ping pong table pieces fit over the air hockey table but there was no way to attach the net so it wasn't very functional. I brought this up to the owner the first day but it wasn't remedied during our stay. The darts were also broken but there was a pool table, video poker machine, air hockey and loads of board games.

The cabin was very well stocked (more so than any other place I've stayed) with things such as dish soap, paper towels, toilet paper, Kleenex, flashlights, writing utensils, scissors, movies, and much more stuff. The hot tub was great and the cleanliness of the place was obvious.

The downside: there was no fishing hole across the street as advertised, long has dried up, which disappointed my husband who was looking forward to that. There is a nice pond down the road however to fish and go in paddle boat. The queen bed in the downstairs bedroom was VERY uncomfortable, wouldn't take much to put a better mattress or pillow top on. The master king bed was ok, but again, pillow top would be nice. The master bath has slanted ceiling so you cannot stand up straight and see in mirror, a problem when trying to dry hair or just look at yourself. Not great on the back, especially for taller people. We did not see any smoke detectors in the cabin other than one on the stairwell to the basement. This made me a little uneasy especially since we were on 2nd floor and also a baby in the house. This cabin sits up on hill with steep driveway but round about at top that is flat and extra flat parking half way up. Not much of a yard to speak up if you have pets or children that want to run around, mostly rocky. There is no trash pickup and owners stated that trash can be dropped off in Bryson City anytime but we found out the place is not open on weekends so had to haul trash back home.

Our suggestion is that the owner update the website and manual info at the cabin to accurately reflect the current situation so it is not misleading.

if you are looking for a place with a mountain view or on a lake, this isn't the place.

The house was well built and furnished and had a great game room. The towels not great. Pretty worn and not what I would expect. Some of the sheets had stains, which was not good. Needs some updating there. Difficult to reach property manager. Nice guy but doesn't listen to voice mail. No internet. Kitchen has plenty of dinnerware and pots and pans. We took suggestions from earlier guests and loved our day at the Nantahala outdoor center. However were not impressed with tubing at Deep Creek. Too many rocks and people. Not lazy tubing .

Hidden Treasure

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was located right where we wanted to be close to a lot of forestry roads we could explore and yet still close enough to towns we've enjoy shopping in the past years. The pool table was mine and my wife's way to wind down each night after dinner and then we could soak in the hot tub to further relax before heading off to a peaceful nights sleep in the very comfortable bed. This was a really nice cabin with everything you could need for a great stay in the mountains. Thanks for letting us enjoy your home.

Happy Family

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of 6 and a half ... me, my husband, our kids (ages 12, 13, 15, & 17), and our dog (who could almost qualify as a rat :) It was fabulous! We've rented several homes through VRBO and this was, by far, the cleanest. I'm a bit OCD when it comes to cleanliness... and was pleasantly surprised when we walked in the door. It instantly felt like home. As others have said, the beds are very comfortable and the kitchen is very well stocked (a coffee maker, crockpot, blender, can opener, etc.). We did a lot of cooking and there were ample pots & pans (something that has lacked at every other rental we've used). Pictures don't do this house justice... the master suite is GORGEOUS and very roomy. We loved having our room on the top floor with the gameroom in the basement ... the kids didn't keep us up at night playing pool/air hockey/ping pong/darts. Sandi quickly responded to all my questions both before and during our stay. The area (Almond, NC) is beautiful and we enjoyed the peace and quiet. We caught fish in both the pond across the street and the lake within walking distance. My only three wishes would have been ... (1) that there would have been an electric heater in the basement because it stays cold .... (2) a t.v. in the master suite would be nice.... and (3.) that we could have stayed longer. :) We definitely recommend this cabin.

Wonderful Cabin for a Family Mountain Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Nestled in the woods only 0.5 miles from the main road we found this cabin to be an excellent home for our family vacation. Creekwood is secluded but not isolated. In fact you can't see any other houses from where it is situated. We found the cabin to be as described and both clean and well maintained. Our 2 teenagers loved to hang around in the basement and play pool. With the master bedroom upstairs it offers privacy. In the evenings we would spend time in the hot-tub spa and watch the fireflies. Everyone found the cabin to comfortable and cozy.

The cabin is situated in a great location with easy access to the Tsali trails for mountain biking or the Nantahala river for white water rafting. Within 20 minutes we could be in downtown Bryson city for shopping and restaurants. Make sure to eat pizza at Anthony's located across from the train depot. The food there is excellent.

Other great places to visit include Fontana Dam, Cherokee, Gatlinburg and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. We took several hikes and for those inclined and up for it we can recommend the Mt. Leconte trail passing through Alum Cave Bluffs, the Jump-Off trail and Charlies Bunion.

Make sure to visit Stoney Hollow farm, near Robbinsville, if you like picking blueberries and delicious peaches. We picked a couple of buckets of blueberries and had them throughout our stay. Ask Sandi for directions.

We can highly recommend this cabin as the perfect spot to enjoy all this area has to offer. Our only regret is that we could not stay longer!
