Beautiful, new house located in Hills Beach. Steps to water and beach. Hills Beach is in the middle of everything that makes summer in Maine special, but enough off the beaten path to make it quiet and relaxing. It is close to the exitement of Old Orchard Beach, and the many fun activities along Route 1 in Saco, but quietly removed from the main strip. It is truly a gem, convenient to any amenities or activities a family could want, but walking distance from uncrowded sandy beaches. It is a surfer's and fisherman's paradise, or the perfect place for a classic family vacation.
Since we married in Boothbay in 2000, it has always been our dream to have a house on the Maine coast! A beachlover (me) and an avid surfer (my husband), we have found the perfect place to enjoy both of our passions.
Liz & John Mansfield purchased this house in 2012
Excellent location & fully-equipped, beautiful, new house. Check out our reviews!
Walk to private beach, peace & quiet, rest & relaxation, view of the water from the deck, dog friendly. Happiness!
We didn't want to leave! We were completely ready to move right in & become caretakers for Liz & John! They had everything we could possibly need as far as the essentials (linens, towels, doggy bags & towels, soap, detergents, toilet paper, etc.) and made us feel welcomed even before our arrival! Liz was always easy to get ahold of and checked in on us by texting during our stay. The décor of the house was similar (but way better) than mine at home. My husband loved the surf movies and took every possible moment to surf and paddle board down at Fortunes Rock, making quick friends with the local surfers. I loved the movie collection and enjoyed cuddling on the sofa, reading a book, while watching the snow fall. We enjoyed walking our dog to Hills Beach...it was our own private sanctuary! Liz even set-up a little Christmas tree for us, which I lit every night. We loved spending New Year's Eve at Old Orchard Beach, watching the fireworks and bonfire! When we had a medical issue with our dog, nearby Biddeford Animal Hospital was absolutely the BEST! The location was perfect, and we were able to take day trips to beautiful Portland, quaint Kennebunk, and our favorite donut joint in Wells, Congdon's! We felt secluded, yet very close to anyplace we needed or wanted to go! While there, we had to try the famous Pizza by Alex (coming from NY, we had to see if the pizza would compare...it was amazing!). Even though it wasn't the time of year to be able to use all the beach toys in the garage, we certainly appreciated them being there, just in case. We cannot wait to make another trip to their home soon! Thanks for making our getaway so special!
Our family just returned from a week long vacation in this cottage.
First of all, I need to say that the location of this cottage was perfect. Just down the gravel path (and visible from the second and third floors) is a semi-private beach that boasts ten foot tide changes. When the tide is out, the beach is absolutely perfect for running the dogs or having a nice, relaxing walk. My son even started skim boarding there and it was funny to watch.
The cottage comes with bikes and all sorts of things in the garage that are available to make your stay very accommodating. Everything was clean and ready for our arrival. The place has plenty of clean sheets, towels and dishes.
The only "want" we had about our stay is that the main glass door in the den area and the door in the master bedroom didn't have any privacy curtains. We are used to having a little more control over seeing into our home, but we simply hung a sheet over the door in the master bedroom at night. It really wasn't an issue at all for us and was easily fixed.
The neighbors are absolutely great. Everyone was very friendly when they saw us. This house is just outside of a college campus area and is peaceful.
We went to Old Orchard Beach and at at Chrysti's. Old Orchard was fun for the kids. There's a great public, sandy beach there, too along with a Ferris wheel and clean, carnival type setting.
If you go to Freeport, be sure to stop at Linda Bean's for breakfast. I think I could eat there every morning.
Liz and Jeff - thanks again for a wonderful stay.
The house is well maintained and in great shape, also I wish I could decorate as well as they did. A short walk to the beach in a nice and quiet area. If your plan is to kick back and relax, this is the place for it.
Plenty of room in the house - there were 5 adults and we weren't on top of each other. The outdoor shower got some good use because we had superb weather.
The only issue with the beach is that there's not much of it at high tide, but you won't mind being so close. but then again, you're at the beach.
If you are reading this, do not pass this place by. The pictures and details stated are very accurate with no surprises. Though the house is nearly new, it has the charm of a beachside cottage because of the great décor. The kitchen has everything you could think of and new stainless steel appliances. The seating at the table and in the living room is very comfortable. Loved the decks with peeks of the water. Though this place is not waterfront, it is a very pleasant walk to two private beaches with spectacular views. It looks like the only people who use these beaches are the residents of Hills Beach. The location is very convenient taking us nearly no time at all to visit a variety of places in the area. It's also very close to shopping and buying those delicious lobsters. Liz is a great host being very helpful but non-intrusive. We would definitely stay here again.
WOW! No detail overlooked! I think we were the first "non family and friends" to stay at this incredible home. HOME. From the moment we walked in, we were amazed at the attention to detail, the cleanliness, the amenities! Beds were so comfy, as was the furniture. High end appliances and beautiful dishes! We brought our 2 dogs...they enjoyed Little Beach! Everything was new and decorated Pottery Barn style in blues and grays....towels & bedding were carefully chosen and coordinated to each room. Liz left such complete and careful instructions and notations that everything was effortless to navigate or figure out. Internet, TV and DVD player worked perfectly. We had 8 people for dinner one evening and did not feel cramped at the dining table. This stunning and lovingly created home leaves nothing to be desired - every detail was perfect. The owners were so easy to communicate with.....simply cannot rave enough about what a fabulous time we shared at their home. Lasting memories of another summer in Biddeford, ME! If you have a chance to stay at this home, you will leave relaxed, fulfilled and peaceful but still desiring one more day!! Wendy St.George Piche and family.
A beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean, dog friendly beach home. With dark wood floors and beach style with a mix of antiques and local art give this home its personality. The first floor has one bedroom, 1/2 bathroom, laundry and great mudroom. Also access to the garage. The second floor has the kitchen, living room, full bath and great kitchen table, perfect for games. The entire third floor is the master suite complete with dressing area, full bath and huge bedroom with a deck. No detail overlooked. Dog bedding and dog towels provided. Bedding and towels for humans provide too. Our family had a perfect week and our dog loved the private, dog friendly beach. We will definitely rent in the future. Thank you to Liz and John
Hills Beach is a very quiet section of Biddedord just beyond the UNE campus. This special & little know area is the perfect place for a simple & quiet, old fashioned family Maine vacation.
