Tiverton House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

The Old Tiverton Four Corners Schoolhouse No. 1 is located within Historic Tiverton Four Corners. Let your imagination wander back to the mid 1800’s as you pass through the proper boys or girls door into this fully remodeled structure. Ring the working vintage twenty-four inch, cast-iron school bell to gather your friends and family for an old-fashioned meal prepared with local produce and cooked in our gourmet kitchen equipped with the latest fixtures for your convenience. Marvel at our collection of period décor and historic schoolhouse memorabilia as you relax in the spacious living room equipped with comfortable seating, a large 46' HDLCD TV, a working wood-burning stone fireplace, and central air conditioning / heating. Wide-plank pine flooring finished with an old fashioned and environmentally friendly Tung oil with citrus helps maintain the historic charm. We provide complimentary Sakonnet Farm Fresh Eggs (seasonally) and Keriug Coffee during your stay.

Tiverton Four Corners Schoolhouse No. 1 was built in 1800 by the Manchester Family, one of the original founding families of Tiverton. The Town realized the need for public education in the mid 1800’s, which at that time was typically provided for in private homes. In 1854 the Manchesters sold the property to the town for one hundred dollars with the right to buy it back when and if the town disposed of it. The Town of Tiverton used the Schoolhouse until 1925, a period in time when the advent of motorized bus transportation afforded consolidations to regional schools. Schoolhouse No. 1 was closed in 1925 when Nonquit School was opened and subsequently sold at auction in 1928 for one-hundred eighty dollars to Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Rego. The Regos converted it into a single family home where their family lived up until the early 1970's. Much to our surprise, the original bell is alive and well in Maine.

The Schoolhouse has two bedrooms and one bathroom equipped with a Whirlpool tub. The master bedroom has a king size bed fitted with a luxurious ten inch foam mattress covered with Egyptian linens. A wall-mounted 32' LED TV complete with cable access will help insure a relaxing finish to your day. The second bedroom is outfitted twin bunk-beds and a 26' LED TV to accommodate friends or family. WI-FI is provided free of charge for those of you who like to stay in touch while you are on vacation. A high-efficiency laundry system is available if you plan on an extended stay.

When you’re done exploring inside, take a walk around the five-acre grounds where you will find meandering streams, vegetable and herb gardens, path through the woods, plenty of chickens, ducks, four goats (Maggie, Lucy, Bandit, and Snickers). If your timing is right, you can help us gather a couple of eggs for breakfast, harvest some fresh herbs to complement your evening meal or perhaps pick some fresh vegetables for a garden salad. After you are done strolling the grounds, amble a short five minute walk north to visit the heart of Historic Tiverton Four Corners, a quaint three-hundred year old cross-roads village. There you will find unique shops, restaurants, Gray’s Ice Cream shop, an Arts Center, Art Galleries, and many other establishments. If you plan on cooking, be sure to visit one of the nearby roadside stands for some tender, sweet, fresh-picked corn.

If you find the Schoolhouse already booked for the dates you wish to travel or have a larger party in need of more space, please check out our other two VRBO properties, Potters Corner in neighboring Little Compton and the Captain Philip Cory House located in the Historic Tiverton Four Corners area. All Sakonnet Farm properties are maintained with the same high level attention to detail.

Immaculate, Interesting and Intimate Rental!

  • 5 of 5

I had been looking at this property on VRBO for several years, thinking how quaint it looked. I'm so happy we decided to spend time there! What a fabulous renovation the owners have performed! This was a charming, immaculate and interesting place to stay. It truly has everything you could need including modern kitchen and laundry. We were here in August but I bet anytime of year would be lovely.

The owners were very responsive in answering our questions (how to work the air conditioning). The house was almost like staying in a museum with various items used in one room schoolhouses and farms, along with well researched written explanations.

The Tiverton area is just lovely. Quiet and quaint but close enough to Newport attractions as well as beaches. The Boat House in Riverton was a wonderful waterside restaurant with locally sourced produce and seafood delivered daily which I highly recommend. We also visited Blithewold Mansion and Gardens which was very nice.

Overall very nice vacation and top notch rental property.

What a great piece of property!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at the schoolhouse! Everything was perfect, we enjoyed all the little details of the house and loved the history of the place. The kitchen had a bunch of basic necessities which was perfect, as well as a gas grill out on the patio. We enjoyed walking next door to check out the animals, and the kids loved ringing the bell.

Exploring the area was great we especially loved the Sakonnet Winery, a day over in newport, and just exploring the shops in Tiverton. We would love to return to the little schoolhouse someday.

Stunning and perfectly appointed

  • 5 of 5

I found this to be the most perfect getaway stay. We were so lucky to have found it for the 4th weekend ( luckily someone had cancelled). The owners have thought of every amenity down to maple syrup for pancakes and salt and pepper for the fresh tomatos from the stand. They happened to be haying the field next door to us which added a lovely touch the seaside farm ambiance. Close to the little town and close to the boat dock. And yes we were able to back our boat trailer in the driveway. Absolutely recommend to anyone! oh and The whirlpool tub in the bathroom was the perfect end to a day on the water !!

Unique! Excellent!

  • 5 of 5

Two couples stayed, one from Massachusetts and one from Scotland for two days in July. The schoolhouse is very nice and modern on the inside with many interesting period details and decorations. Very clean. Very charming. Such different accommodations that you would not be able to find anywhere else. Highly recommended. The owners are very helpful with any questions you may have.

Exactly as promised.

  • 5 of 5

The Tiverton schoolhouse was better than expected and a joy to stay at. Everything was as promised including cleanliness. The property was well appointed and tastefully decorated including a number of items on the walls showing the local history. It was an enjoyable place to stay with an easy drive to Newport. The owners went the extra mile to put care into every facet of their vacation rental, and it showed! We will definitely visit again.

An incredible experience!

  • 5 of 5

It was a treat and a delight to stay in this beautifully decorated and repurposed schoolhouse. As a former school teacher, daughter of a school teacher, and lover of one-room schoolhouses, I've been in heaven each time we've stayed here!

How many people have the opportunity to stay in an 1800's schoolhouse? We are very grateful to Kristin and Adam for sharing this beauty with all of us. They have done an incredible job inside and outside!

On one of our days this time, the weather was perfect to eat outdoors on the patio and soak up some sunshine which was a treat in April.

Everything about our stay was thoroughly enjoyable and wonderful. Thanks, Kristin!

We look forward to our next trip to Tiverton!
