About Cindy Barnard

After many fun years in the health care industry (research pharmacist , pharmaceutical sales and marketing) , I moved from Colorado to enjoy my family ties in Oregon --where my grandfather homesteaded. I live full time in Ashland, Oregon. I enjoy travel, walking cooking,, gardening, bridge, theater, good friends and my doggy, Honey.

Cindy Barnard purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Cindy Barnard chose Coastal Oregon

I loved to join my cousin in her home here at Seal Rock after moving to Oregon. When her happy, long stay (23+ years) in this home ended, I purchased the cottage to enjoy with friends. I have had fun renovating and invigorating the home to share as a rental with others in this special spot. I hope you enjoy your time here. It is a fascinating area.

What makes this cottage unique

Walking with my grandsons, friends and my lab on this beach is wonderful--no matter what the weather! I can watch them play and run for miles and know that this area of the Oregon coast is especially safe and friendly for my loved ones. Good coffee, family, friends and doggy-- beautiful sunsets. Wow! I am blessed!!

Guestbook comments from the owner

This is a good place to just do what you want! Took some drives, shopped a little. Did a crazy Passover took us two days. Read watch movies eight and eight. Took our little dog to the beach. He ate a lot of sand but he ran and ran – 12 years old. Love the house and all the wicker! The yard and blooms are so nice! Love the time here!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the feedback, Brian. Will make sure those stains are addressed-- that's not up to my standards.. dog friendly doesn't mean spots !! that 1880s bed is a family antique, so it's a bit difficult to part with. Glad you had a good time and enjoyed the beach-- it is special. Cindy

A Bit Tired But Not Shabby

  • 4 of 5

FIrst and foremost our stay met our expectations and the cottage was well equipped to meet our needs. Our purpose here was not so much on the accomodations as it was the central coast location. The front porch was loaded with pine cones and needles as if we were the first to rent since the winter. I swept them off the porch to avoid tracking them inside. Upon entering there was a musty odor which did not overwhelm us during our stay, but was noticeable upon entering. We were advised to run the dehumidifier, but it was too noisy to run while in the room. As described; there is no internet or cable so unless you have a cellular hot spot you are off the grid here. We. Still enjoyed our stay but want readers to know our experience.

Owner's Response: Thank you for letting me know, I had closed the cottage to rentals for five weeks while having some trees removed and reconstructing a new back fence. And the coast has had an unusually cold, wet spring. I regret that the storm clean up wasn't up to par. Thank you for letting me know. I'll see that my maintenance and housekeeping crew gets your feedback and we'll all try to stay ahead of the challenges of the weather. Thank you for your feedback. It is a gift. Cindy

Private and comfortable retreat

  • 5 of 5

We have good memories of our stay here in late April. The cottage is a small, older home that has been spruced up. With two bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen and living area there is plenty of elbow room for 2-4 people. We used the queen bed and found it comfy. There is lots of hot water. Both bathtub and shower are available and the towels are fluffy.

We enjoyed the décor, some of it quite whimsical. The cottage is surrounded by greenery and interesting plantings. I was dazzled by the gorgeous rhododendron in full bloom right out the front window. I was also delighted to discover a hand-written family recipe notebook which was stashed in the hutch. We learned a new word game that someone had thoughtfully left behind.

The backyard deck would be inviting in good weather if you don't mind some traffic noise from highway 101. Someone who sleeps lightly might be disturbed by the sound of rain on the roof in the night.

The beach access is nearby--down many steps and with a sturdy railing. We walked on the beach all the way to Bayshore at Waldport and then happened upon a trail through the woods back to the Silver Sands neighborhood and the cottage. There are other hiking adventures within a few miles, as well as good places to eat out. However, the kitchen is well-equipped too.

Directions for finding and entering the place were excellent and the owner was friendly and easy to work with. We would not hesitate to book another stay at My Cousin's Cottage.

Fabulous Family Time on the Pacific Coast!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful hidden cottage on Seal Rock, Oregon. My parents, my daughter and I spent a fabulous time together here with no TV which was a blessing to our ears, well at least to mine and my mom's. The cottage was filled with great artwork and some fun whimsical pieces as well. The ability to relax and feel at home was the best part of staying at this home away from home. We couldn't have asked for anything more from a vacation home!

The weather was as expected for April Shower Spring weather but it didn't stop us from exploring all the small towns and beaches. Watching the sunset less than 50 yards from the cottage on the beach was breathtaking! There was not a bad view in town!!

A couple of notes for the adventurous travelers. The location of this cottage is about 40 min to an hour from all the dune buggies, horseback riding at C&M Stables, amazing hiking trails (Cape Perpetua), lighthouses and some of the other 'living on the edge' extreme activities. The ride to all these activities was incredible, the view was none I have every seen before, to include riding on the edge of the road the whole way up and down the mountains. It was a bit scary for those of us that are "flat landers" as I was referred too as, and if you are afraid of heights, just please be aware before heading south. And for those that do take the trek, make sure your camera's/phones are ready and charged, the photo ops are endless!! At the end of our excursions, it was fabulous to come back to a warm comfortable place to relax & wash clothes after riding horses for 2 hours.

Food, because of course that is always the best part of the vacation for some... Stay LOCAL!! It's the best and the smaller the place (dive) the better the food was! Weekdays most of the town closes by 8 or 9pm for food, so go directly to the China Restaurant in Waldport over the Alsea River bridge, there was no disappointment here and YUMMY!! Also, since everyone has the "best" clam chowder on the coast, we can only recommend our favorite and that was at Luna Sea Fish House in Yachats.

Enjoy your stay at this highly recommended Cottage for a time of relaxation, comfort and pure peacefulness!
