About Cindy Barnard

After many fun years in the health care industry (research pharmacist , pharmaceutical sales and marketing) , I moved from Colorado to enjoy my family ties in Oregon --where my grandfather homesteaded. I live full time in Ashland, Oregon. I enjoy travel, walking cooking,, gardening, bridge, theater, good friends and my doggy, Honey.

Cindy Barnard purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Cindy Barnard chose Coastal Oregon

I loved to join my cousin in her home here at Seal Rock after moving to Oregon. When her happy, long stay (23+ years) in this home ended, I purchased the cottage to enjoy with friends. I have had fun renovating and invigorating the home to share as a rental with others in this special spot. I hope you enjoy your time here. It is a fascinating area.

What makes this cottage unique

Walking with my grandsons, friends and my lab on this beach is wonderful--no matter what the weather! I can watch them play and run for miles and know that this area of the Oregon coast is especially safe and friendly for my loved ones. Good coffee, family, friends and doggy-- beautiful sunsets. Wow! I am blessed!!

Private and comfortable retreat

  • 5 of 5

We have good memories of our stay here in late April. The cottage is a small, older home that has been spruced up. With two bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen and living area there is plenty of elbow room for 2-4 people. We used the queen bed and found it comfy. There is lots of hot water. Both bathtub and shower are available and the towels are fluffy.

We enjoyed the décor, some of it quite whimsical. The cottage is surrounded by greenery and interesting plantings. I was dazzled by the gorgeous rhododendron in full bloom right out the front window. I was also delighted to discover a hand-written family recipe notebook which was stashed in the hutch. We learned a new word game that someone had thoughtfully left behind.

The backyard deck would be inviting in good weather if you don't mind some traffic noise from highway 101. Someone who sleeps lightly might be disturbed by the sound of rain on the roof in the night.

The beach access is nearby--down many steps and with a sturdy railing. We walked on the beach all the way to Bayshore at Waldport and then happened upon a trail through the woods back to the Silver Sands neighborhood and the cottage. There are other hiking adventures within a few miles, as well as good places to eat out. However, the kitchen is well-equipped too.

Directions for finding and entering the place were excellent and the owner was friendly and easy to work with. We would not hesitate to book another stay at My Cousin's Cottage.

Fabulous Family Time on the Pacific Coast!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful hidden cottage on Seal Rock, Oregon. My parents, my daughter and I spent a fabulous time together here with no TV which was a blessing to our ears, well at least to mine and my mom's. The cottage was filled with great artwork and some fun whimsical pieces as well. The ability to relax and feel at home was the best part of staying at this home away from home. We couldn't have asked for anything more from a vacation home!

The weather was as expected for April Shower Spring weather but it didn't stop us from exploring all the small towns and beaches. Watching the sunset less than 50 yards from the cottage on the beach was breathtaking! There was not a bad view in town!!

A couple of notes for the adventurous travelers. The location of this cottage is about 40 min to an hour from all the dune buggies, horseback riding at C&M Stables, amazing hiking trails (Cape Perpetua), lighthouses and some of the other 'living on the edge' extreme activities. The ride to all these activities was incredible, the view was none I have every seen before, to include riding on the edge of the road the whole way up and down the mountains. It was a bit scary for those of us that are "flat landers" as I was referred too as, and if you are afraid of heights, just please be aware before heading south. And for those that do take the trek, make sure your camera's/phones are ready and charged, the photo ops are endless!! At the end of our excursions, it was fabulous to come back to a warm comfortable place to relax & wash clothes after riding horses for 2 hours.

Food, because of course that is always the best part of the vacation for some... Stay LOCAL!! It's the best and the smaller the place (dive) the better the food was! Weekdays most of the town closes by 8 or 9pm for food, so go directly to the China Restaurant in Waldport over the Alsea River bridge, there was no disappointment here and YUMMY!! Also, since everyone has the "best" clam chowder on the coast, we can only recommend our favorite and that was at Luna Sea Fish House in Yachats.

Enjoy your stay at this highly recommended Cottage for a time of relaxation, comfort and pure peacefulness!

A cozy and comfortable retreat from urban stress.

  • 4 of 5

Not having internet access or TV is actually a feature. It encourages reading and visiting. The short walk to a virtually empty beach quickly becomes part of the daily routine. The quiet neighborhood location is ideal. Close enough to Newport and all that offers, but far enough South to escape the heavy traffic and crowded beaches between Lincoln City and Newport.

Tucked away in Seal Rock, Oregon,we discovered a small piece of paradise. Tucked back into a small alcove of trees, you get an immediate sense of peaceful serenity. The decor ranges from whimsical to modern...all coming together beautifully. It was nice not to have to live out of a suitcase or decide which restaurant we wanted to go to for any of meals. There were a couple days we chose to just stay in and relax, other days we sightseeing. The beauty of the surrounding area is amazing. From the rolling farmlands, quiet beauty of the foothills, to witnessing the awesome splendor and power of the ocean. We were also lucky enough to witness the dignity and majesty of a mated pair of bald eagles while at the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse. There are many little treasures to find. One of personal favorites was The Chocolate Frog just down the road in Waldport. The owners were amazing and very friendly. We've had a great time this week and have only one regret. We really wish we could have stayed longer. However, plans are already in the making for next year to return to this beautiful home and the slice of paradise it's tucked away in.

Owner's Response: I am so happy to hear from these nice guests who spent a week at the cottage-- the splendid serenity and quiet repose enjoyed here is not for every one, but it's a piece of heaven for those of us who need to nourish our souls and escape the demands of our overwhelming lives. I'm so happy to share it with guests who appreciate the charm and contentment of this little piece of my heart! Thank you, dear guests for taking the time to share these thoughts with others-- AND with me! All the best, Cindy B.

Perfect for us!

  • 5 of 5

Thought I would write what is charming about this rental. It is so quiet and peaceful. My husband and I went with our little dog and it was perfect. Loved the reading chairs. We read, did a puzzle that took us awhile. Boy was it hard. Watched some movies and went to the beach When you want to go to the beach down the road there are 58 steps down. I use a cane but it was easy. This was the best up and down the hwy for a person that needs help. Loved it! It was so cool and rain for the first 2 days at night. We are from Sac and we have had 100's already. So boy, I wish I could have bottled it up to bring home. But, this house has everything! You will love it!!!!!!!!! And loved the little lawn for our dog to explore.

Owner's Response: I am delighted to hear from guests who are so well pleased! Most folks are so happy to take an "unplugged" vacation and rediscover a simple life... This cottage has been the happy beach home for many guests these past few years and it is wonderful to get to know how folks enjoy their time there. Thank you to all who take the time and effort to give feedback-- it is a gift! Come back anytime and enjoy! Cindy
